I saw a "video games you like that others criticise" thread a while back and decided to make one about TV shows.

Object of the thread is simple: what TV shows do you like that are regularly criticised. Or, do you get regularly criticised for liking them?

Mine are Doctor Who, Torchwood, Caprica, Burn Notice and this new sci-fi show called Falling Skies.

Who have you been talking to that criticizes Doctor Who?

I won't argue that it is perfect but it has been critically and popularly acclaimed for quite a long time and in recent years even in the United States.

I just finished Galactica, is it any good?

OT: This is always in reverse for me, I can't help but criticise programmes (Screw you spellchecker) despite my friends and family loving them. Although I still usually love them as well (except for the Season 4 Dr. Who finale).

Many people. I think I need some new acquaintances. The Doctor Who criticism doesn't bother me much, but the criticism of Burn Notice and Falling Skies really bugs the hell out of me.

It's a bit of a change of pace and the first few episodes are bit more mundane than you'd expect with only brief moments of being totally awesome, but a couple episodes in it picks up. And the 2nd half of the season is some of the most interesting science fiction I've seen since... well, since Galactica.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

I haven't heard anyone criticise them but I still watch cartoons from my youth which my kids (and wife) like to mock me for.

Aside from that I watch TNA which seems to draw the hate from WWE fans.

True Blood

Some people blindlessly hate it and think its like twillight. But if you have watched a few episodes you know it isnt just some teen soap opera. It has some great scenes and plenty of violence/gore.

I get criticized for NOT liking Doctor Who. It's like my geek cred suddenly takes a nose dive or something.

OT: Glee. Yeah, okay, the second season was off its rocker, but the first one was BRILLIANT. Haters gonna hate, but I liked the damn show.

Well, ninja'd there. Also American Dad and Family Guy. I too love Doctor Who, but I only know two people who don't like it, so I don't really hear many criticisms.

I've been watching Franklin and Bash, which I've found great fun, but when I Googled it it seems like its extremely divisive.

At any rate, Malcolm McDowell is hilarious in it.

I get some of that too. But it's mainly one guy who hasn't seen American Dad just claiming that "it's just Family Guy with different-looking characters."

This same person also, at one point, had 4 seasons of Family Guy on DVD.

The Jeremy Kyle Show
Please tell me you watch that purely for the schadenfreude...

OT: Crime Scene Investigation (the original set in Vegas)

Yeah, I'm a scientist, and I know most of their 'science' is bollocks. I'm entertained, piss off! (Though I stopped watching when Grissom left, because I identified with him, I'm a misanthropic entomologist as well...)

Yeah, I actually thought the same for a while, until I watched a fair bit of American Dad. They're the same in very broad strokes (talking animal, father hates daughter etc.) but the characters themselves are very different, and I actually prefer American Dad, mainly for Stan and Roger.

The Real World, and with one group of my friends any Anime that I watch. Most of the other Live-Action TV shows I watch my friends have never seen.

There are times when I start to wonder if other people on this site are secretly tapping into my mind. This is one of those times.

So, yeah. This lovely post was essentially what I was going to say. I don't dislike Doctor Who- in fact, it's quite endearing, and I'd say I like it- but I've never found it the huge behemoth of awesome that I'm apparently supposed to. And I did enjoy the first season of Glee.

Think it would have to be Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Theres not a guy I have met that doesn't like the show, but women hate it. Of course their argument is that none of the characters are likable and they are all assholes. Makes for a refreshing change of pace in my eyes, they play off each other so well.
