I'm not a fan. Wasn't too impressed with the first movie. But I'll come back for Dakota Fanning :)

The book was terribly written and dull. The movie fixed most of its mistakes, such as the pacing and the endless paragraphs spent on Bella gazing into Edward's eyes. It had a nice score, some interesting angles, but terrible actors mostly and some impossibly awkward dialogue.
All my female friends think the same, actually.
I saw a poster for the sequel yesterday, and what immediately struck me was how dull and utterly vacant Bella's stare was. It made me wonder how anyone can like it.
The worst thing is that it's like that for the entire movie. She always keeps this blank emotional stare and shows absolutely no emotion.
It's most obvious when she goes to visit the Cullens, and Alice puts on this great performance while Bella looks like a machine from the Terminator movies.

Im not a really big fan of it well..It was something new without reading the books but I enjoyed the movie and im just a hard core action guy, But ladies was the first Twilight meet your need or could it do more And you thoughts about New Moon coming out in Nov?
Twilight's movie was not quite what I thought that it would be. They changed scenes that didn't need to be changed. It's not like the timing would have been different- the scene would have been just as long. (Also, for those who haven't seen the deleted scenes- there was a very, very good reason that they where deleted.) It moved really fast and didn't give much character background. There are things that I can rant about forever but I do have to say that it was nice to see the characters.

I know that for New Moon this November that there is another director, something that pleases me. I don't particularly like the job that Hardwike (sp?) did. I egerly await it, but I will probably always rely on the books for genuine entertainment.

That was because of the director: She thought that is how Bella looked to be 'dazzeled'.

EDIT: I hated the amount of blinking that she did.

The books were terrible, the movie was terrible and shallow, but I'm not going to lie, I thought the bloke's looks were the only selling point for me. I am officially as shallow as the Twilight series. Noose please?

Lack of punctuation makes the OP difficult to read and confusing.
Never read or seen Twilight, but if you want to see how good a franchise is, take a look at their fan base. I'll never become a squealing Twilight fanbrat... never...

I like you.
(All of the girls I know are squealing twilight fanbrats...so thank you for restoring my faith in womankind)

Ugh, Twilight....dear god such a horrible pile of shit. And their fanboys/more commonly fangirls...just as horrible. Probably the worst known fangirl/fanboy possible. I've heard that some of them have ATTACKED people who have said that the books were crap. Although I doubt they've gone to "attacks".

Eh, I have read all the books, seen the movie twice and even have listened to the audiobooks, so I can give an unqualified "Why is this popular?". I can understand why girls (read: ones who either have never been in a relationship and/or have never been in a creepy, abusive relationship) would like this series. The men are purportedly handsome and dangerous, they are ALL obsessed over a self-admittedly plain girl that a lot of young girls can imagine themselves as, and Stephanie Meyer can write some pretty sappy dialouge.

I would NEVER, however, let any daughters of mine read these books. I would want them to, I dunno, have examples of HEALTHY non-abusive relationships to fantasize about.

Side note: All my friends (male and female) and I watched the movie and realized that nearly all of Edward's lines could have "*****" added at the end and it would fit with his tone and behavior.

Thinking someone is good looking is alright but to cloud your judgement over whether the movie was good or not is unacceptable. Keep your chin up girl.

Who? The terribly sad-looking guy? Then I concur. He was the only thing about this movie that was awsome .. Well that and that Bella looked exactly like a friend of mine.

There was something else I was going to say, but someone called me, and it dropped out of my head

Thanks for that :) I actually came to the thread because I was worried it would turn into an 'OMG I HATE TWILIGHT LULZ!!!1' sort of thing, but I was pleasantly surprised :) As it happens other guys here like Twilight as well, not just me. I'm simply more outspoken against the Hate Wagon (for all things, not just Twilight, incidentally).

You'll have to find me first... ;)

Anyway, basically I'm just pleased that for once in a Twilight thread people are actually giving, for the most part, informed opinions instead of jumping on the wagon. I read all of the books and I liked them, but even so I could still see the gaping plot holes and problems with the writing. Characters weren't as well developed as I'd like, the only characters I actually truly liked were Alice and Jasper, and the others were pretty much just there as filler and as 'Mary Sue' and so on. However, I still enjoyed reading them, just like I enjoy Dan Brown - it's entertaining. If I want to read a well written book, a proper work of literature, then I'll simply pick up my Discworld books or anything from Ian Irvine, or anything that comes under Gothic Horror. For a brief release though, Twilight is pretty good.

As for the film, I actually preferred it to the book. I felt that the actors did quite well given their source text. They couldn't have made the characters of Twilight appear like brilliantly devised characters and make us sympathise as much as you want to with the film, but that's down to the limited nature of the source material. They still did a damn good job, and as an amateur film-maker myself, I could see the brilliance in the filming styles used and it was pretty clear that Catherine Hardwicke (director) had tried to turn a mediocre book into a decent film. The source was all that let them down. Anyone who's seen any other film or TV series starring any of the Twilight actors will know already that they're great actors, it's simply down to the book. But the main problem with Twilight isn't any of this, it's the screaming fangirls. Despite liking Twilight I absolutely hate the screaming fangirls with a passion, just not as much as the haters riding their wagon along the road of hate. As it were.

With regards to New Moon, I felt that the book wasn't quite as good as Twilight for the bulk, but it did surprisingly end up well written (Shock! Horror!) near the end. Most of it is pretty much Bella moping because Edward's buggered off to Italy, and then werewolf Jacob Black stalking her and sexually harassing her (she's too much of a mopey idiot in this one to realise. And I say this despite not actually minding her normally...). Near the end she goes with Alice to Italy to 'save' Edward from suicide (huh?) and ends up back together with him, and that's pretty much the only really interesting part. However, given the approach to the film of Twilight, I reckon they may just be able to surprise us and come up with something that's half decent for most of the film rather than just at the end, with New Moon. I may be wrong, but I'll have a look when it comes out and then make a fair judgement then.

The only thing I liked about Twilight was how they created new Vampires. They arent just "Rawr I have godly strength, speed, and endurance but cant go into the sun or I die/losee all of my powers." They have there own unique powers and strengths and going into the sun just makes them obvious, they dont become weaker or die, and I like this re-imagining of vampires because the old style was done to death.

Authors Note: I am not endorsing the film or the book just applauding the fact that the Creator created a new style of vampire.

The director was quite competent. I can imagine:
"Now, look dazzled!"
*stares blankly into the void*
"You know... surprised!"
*stares blankly into the void*
"Act like your mom just grew an extra arm and tells you that she's from the planet Zog!"
*stares blankly into the void*
"Ah, fuck it"
*stares blankly into the void*
