Not unless it's one of those awkwardly long ones (jokingly long ones are fine) or the hold me type hugs.
Most hugs are fine, I hug my friends, male or female, all the time, hence the name :p

Hugs are fine, there's nothing gay about them. Most people who say there is are just too afraid of being perceived as gay.

Pff, everything is gay these days. Do what makes you happy and don't care about what others think. Trust me, don't try to persuade them it's not gay.

Spoiler: You won't convince them.
I agree with Cookie Monster.

In this context, something can only be "gay" if it's being done with gay intent. So, if you're not gay, nothing you can do, up to and including having sex with a man*, is actually gay.

*It would raise the question of why, exactly, you were having sex with him, but the definition stands.

No it's not. I always hug my guy-friends not because I'm gay but because it's a way of showing joy.

Really funny this was posted.

Yesterday I went to photograph an event and I started to have a conversation with a fellow photographer I have seen around. He was French and had a thick accent but was really nice. We talked to the subway together and had to catch different trains. To say goodbye he hugged me and for about two seconds I thought "whoa! whats he doing!" and than afterwords I saw the look on his face and thought..."he's just friendly, why am I thinking something like this?"

I got onto the train and noticed some teenagers giving me a look but I just ignored it.

I guess it would depend of the culture... In my case: no, its not. In fact, in my culture a kiss in the cheek is pretty normal, even among men...

Just try to keep your hands above his hip...

My friends are important to me and a hug with a close friend is great, especially as we have all moved away so don't get to see each other very often. Hell, when I was at uni I'd known my flatmates for 3 months but when we were back together in January there were a lot of reunion hugs.

now, one day a few years ago a friend mentioned it was their birthday coming up and said to me 'what you going to give me for my birthday' to which I replied 'I'll give you a hug'. his response was 'no thanks, I'm not gay' which I thought was stupid. I just this minute told that story to my mum and she pretty much agreed with my mates response.

what do you think? is one friend hugging another gay? or is it just friendly? Joey and Chandler do it all the time!
Theres nothing gay about it at all.

It depends on why your doing it and how your doing it. The only time I can remember hugging any males outside of family is my bestfriend during our graduation. If your throwing your arms around another guys neck, its gay. If your doing the handshake into a one arm hug then its all good.

I've always considered it a bit weird to hug someone (of either gender) you aren't "involved" with. Though I have friends (again, of both genders) who'd consider it normal. Which weirds me out!

Of course, hugging a male friend you don't need to worry about... how to put this nicely... "certain natural reactions taking place". No worse way for a girl to find out that you think they're attractive! D=

(well, there are worse ways, but it's the worst that you risk on a day-to-day basis!)

Yes, but patting another guy on the arse while playing a sport isn't. :/

Most men, I assume, would find hugging another man, outside of the "bro hug" (clasping the fist and then patting on the back), a little uncomfortable and possibly call it a "gay act". However, they find nothing wrong with the example mentioned in my first line. Bit strange, eh?

Just in case you don't get my point; No. I don't think it's a gay thing for a guy to hug another guy unless is specifically for a gay purpose. For example: You get aroused by it, you're in a relationship, etc.

hugging is not gay, telling your mate you're going to give him a hug for his birthday is pretty gay though.

I hug my best friends all the time. but it depends on the mannor on which you do it. If you hug simplely then its normal. If you hugg them and swing them in a circle with your arms that is gay

I dont find it gay, but then again, I dont find anything sexual in a huge period.

Everyone needs a hug at one point or another. Just to let them know that they have someone there that they can lean back on and feel supported.
