Eh, I'm treating this with the level of seriousness that it deserves.
If someone comes into a thread and starts blocking anyone who makes an arguement against her I doubt I'm gonna bother treating her in a serious manner.
Seeing as Cassita got herself suspended, would you please consider making the effort to raise the level of debate in the thread now?
Ok, if you want my serious input.

On the topic of the arrogant, stubborn user:
People like her, from what I see of her, desire far too great a level of freedom.
They think everyone should be able to do what they want and that would lead to a dangerous, chaotic and very disorganised society.

She also despises the organisation that runs her country, that made sure she was born in a safe environment, that she got at the very least a basic education, that she lived in a safe society (to the best of their abilities) and you know where I'm going with this.
To be fair (according to her profile at least) she is from Australia. The nation that seems to believe that the purpose of law is to bludgeon their political beliefs into the other side. So, a bit of anarchistic lather is probably an understandable response.

She's also those type of liberals that think anyone that is less liberal then they are, are evil and with me being a Fascist, I have not had good dealings with them in the past so...let's just say I'm not fond of them.
Again, to be fair, there are a lot of people who regard fascism as evil. A large part of that comes from the way the ideology was employed in WWII.

For me, one of the most troubling things about fascism isn't the ideology itself, rather its the propensity for fascism to attract warmongers and empire builders.

EDIT: I should amend this: With fascism, all it takes is a single warmonger or empire builder getting to the top, for everything to go pear shaped. Not that the philosophy encourages this behavior, simply that as a political structure, there doesn't tend to be checks in place to limit their aggression.

She can't handle anyone whom disagrees with her and just blocks them which is the internet equivalency of shouting in someone's face and then blcoking your ears going "lalalala I can't hear you".
That pushed me towards blood boiling levels as well. Still, in general, its usually best not let yourself get dragged down to someone like that's level. That said, she was really fuckin' irritating.

On the topic of the OP:
What the mother did was extremly cruel to the child, to force a habit on someone you are supposed to be taking care of is severly wrong and in doing so the mother has proven that she is unfit to look after her child.
In this we agree.

Anyway, thank you.

Nice imput, and while I disagree with facism, at least it has a level of common sense to it. I consider myself a liberal, but pure 'I should be allowed to do anything I want' libertarian bullshit is further up on my list of things that piss me off. Right next to zealous vegetarians/vegans and putting pineapple on pizza.
But... pineapple... :( :p

Then sorry for the comic I posted, it's just that we do feel a need to retaliate against those that look down on us as if we are inhuman beasts.
For what it's worth, I was mildly amused by comic. Weird? yes. Random? Yes. But, mildly amusing.

Let people choose, let them deal with any negative consequences. Of course, before this can actually happen, society will need to shift to a model that actually lets people FAIL and DIE when they are stupid--rather than constantly bailing them out of the negative consequences of their choices. Natural selection has a purpose.
This is the problem... nobody wants things to fail and die. there was a time when people said "big companies, big stores, and banks were too large to fail". And now Banks are begging for a bailout, Large companies are consolidating buildings yet expanding work territories and the world proceeds to go to hell in a handbasket. Life should be about having second chances and being able to start over, fresh and new, but that kind of thing won't happen with the kind of technology and programs that practicly keeps track of everyone everywhere.

Society has become no different than the Super Mario Galaxy 2's "no drooling mongloid left behind" policy, where people aren't to blame for their own actions, but if someone or something else hand't did what lead to the horrible action, everything would have been ok. For example, don't blame the mother who gave the blunt to her 2-year old.... blame the jackass who sold her the weed, and none of this shit would have ever happened, right? or how about blaming the person who sold her the camera to record her child smoking a fat doobie? everything would have been ok and we could go back to believeing that every society is perfect in their own little way...

Because marijuana is so much worse for you than tobacco, right?

Not to excuse the behavior, but I'd rather everyone be smoking pot than tobacco. Of course I'd rather no one be smoking anything at all, because inhaling smoke is kinda stupid in the first place.

11 years in jail seems a bit excessive but I think a (very) hefty fine and a visit from the child protection service would probably do the trick.

For the record im not defending her, irresponsible idiots like her shouldn't be allowed to have children.
11 years sounds about right. That and a hefty fine and loss of care for the child.

There's a lot of stigma, could someone explain what's actually harmful about marajuana(however it's spelled)? because I can only think of smoke damaging the lungs, I think it's bad alright and if it is harmful in any way she should be prosecuted.

See, this and Cassita and similar people are my biggest problem with pot. I don't have a whole lot against the drug itself, and have even used it myself on a couple of occasions (and have decided that it's really not for me), but some of the fucking people who use it... Yes, we get that there are more harmful things out there, and that some of them are legal. However, marijuana CAN cause psychological harm, and inhaling smoke is generally bad. More so for a fucking two year old. You can smoke as much of it as you want yourself, but giving it to a toddler is majorly fucking irresponsible.

You thought that video of a two-year-old smoking in Indonesia was upsetting? Well, Jessica Gamble of Ohio has been accused of providing marijuana to her 2-year-old toddler. On top of that she is accused of using her cell phone to record her two-year-old smoking pot.

Gamble, 21, was indicted on child endangering and other charges.

Jessica Gamble allegedly gave the two-year-old toddler pot sometime this summer. Authorities became aware of the situation after an unidentified person gave them a copy of a video showing the two year old toddler smoking marijuana.

Gamble is currently in custody. She could face more than 11 years in jail.

this just wrong, so my fellow escapists what do you think of the disturbing video?
If only my mother were that good to me... :)

Psychoactive effects of pot CAN have long term mental effects.
Nope.

I challenge you to find a single study that supports this claim.

No such study exists.

You go on buying into the government's fear campaign - they wouldn't want you to believe a harmless herb they don't tax could be beneficial, after all.
In Holland, it is legal (and taxed), and there is a lot of research to support the claim that it is bad for your health, especially in the long run. Some of the research may even be translated.

Funny, considering no one has ever died from pot.

Ever.

Oh wait, that's right, it's not taxed.

Go back to drinking and smoking, people, nothing to see here.
Except mind altering substances given to a toddler when their brain is actually forming is fucking stupid and can fuck them up severely. Not to mention the fact that they're inhaling smoke. The danger of the smoke is debatable, but the fact that smoke is going into the infants lungs is true, which is still fucking despicable.
Except for the fact that while the kiddo is at that age, the brain is so active that is "self heals" almost all injuries any ways.
Which is why a kid that age taking a nasty blow to the head ( example : falling down stairs ) will 99% of the time not gain any permanent injuries, except it will produce a screaming kiddo. :)

But in a 2 year old... Jesus. The kid is learning new things EVERYDAY. And it doesn't just apply to 'book learning.' Studies done a decade ago on the use of marijuana on autistic children showed a decrease in both book learning and social skills learning: basically, what little ability autistic children had to socialize was being lost. I can only speculate that it would do something similar to a normal child.
Sorry to chim in, a study I saw found that Nicontin(as in they used the patch) Reduced the effect of down sydrome and Austism. Not that has anything to do with pot, its just I thought It was an interesting fact. Oh and I don't belive pot can reduce mental capicty but it can make it harder to learn and such and cause short term memory loss.

So again, toddles shouldn't be taking any kind of recreational drug.

EDIT:Some grammar kind of.
They've found dozens of uses for nicotine that are beneficial. None of them, however, can overcome the fact that its highly addictive.

I read somewhere that the creation of a synthetic nicotine that has no addiction would be a godsend to medicine, even if not applied to tobacco products.
On that subject, nicotine and barbiturates are my only options I have when it comes to dealing with the stress migraines I get.

AT's mostly right. Nicotine does do some really useful and unique things to the brain. Unfortunately it's also a highly potent neurotoxin and carries with it fun side effects like an increased risk of strokes, and a lethal dosage in the same general range as cyanide.

Did you happen to see her in the loli/lolicon thread?

She was just as bad there...

OT: Yeah that's bad, she should be put in jail for a long time, the fact that cannabis may be the weakest drug doesn't change the fact that it can be harmful in large amounts.

And being 2 years old, a large amount for her is significantly less than a large amount for an 18 year old.

So I'd say that was putting her daughter in a high level of danger.

Possibly more depending on who her dealer was...

In practice, you're mostly right. Human beings under the age of about six are idiotically resistant to physical trauma, including head wounds. (Fun fact, if you lop off a toddler's finger up to the first knuckle, the finger will regenerate, complete with a new nail (unless you cauterize the wound.))

Now, that's physical trauma. Chemical trauma is a different story altogether. When it comes to the effect of various chemicals on the brain, a child's mind is extremely susceptible. And chemical exposure at that age can alter at a very fundamental level how the brain develops.

11 years is longer in jail than running someone down in england and killing them, is someones life worth less than a kid smoking a bit of pot?

This is likely going to be ignored but from the point of view of someone who has studied the medical effects of cannabis for five years I have to say this: The woman was stupid!

There is a myth out there that smoking cannabis leads to either memory problems or learning difficulties. This is a load of bullshit for the most part... but not a complete lie. It has been proven, medically, that in some cases cannabis can retard developing pathways in young minds! This won't make them stupid, it isn't even a guarantee that they will have difficulty learning to begin with, but it is a risk we shouldn't be taking with young minds.

Cannabis and young minds are not a good mix.

Now... eleven years! Come on! I could poison a child with heavy medals, guaranteeing retardation in development, and get a lot less. Rediculous. Woman was stupid, regardless of the scientific point of view she still was stupid given the social blow back from such an action, and deserves some sort of punishment. Eleven years is way to much though, child protection visits and a heavy fine would of been enough. Suspended sentence too, just to ensure that she keeps on the right side of the law for a year or two.
