Not if Danzors EPIC SATELLITE SPACE SHARK LASER has anything to say about it.

God damn that is catchy.
Needs more nouns as adjectives. Really.
I'm flattered by how highly you think of my space shark or E.S.S.S for short.
Yes, it is a rather impressive weapon system you have there Danzorz.

Not as funny as a goddamn space shark lasering your ass from space with a space laser.

Oh and guys this thread is about sharks. No one cares about N. Korea because let's be honest it's only half of a country to begin with.

Capitalism is a system. Resource-Basing is a system.

Doesn't matter what system you put in place - there are always going to be fucktards that ruin the system. Even your system will eventually be corrupted to the Nth degree by people who learn how to cheat, use and control the system.

So Capitalism and Resource-Basing would work better if there weren't any humans involved. Which is impossible. Ta-da!

Maybe it would be better if we let the sharks with lasers run everything.

Hang on, wasn't this the plot of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory?

*SPOILERS*

It's a rogue japanese general that wants to start a nuclear war between you and north korea because he hates americans. So he's going to hack a north korean missile silo and sink the destroyer using a cutting edge algorithm. Don't worry though, Sam Fishers gonna infiltrate the japanese intelligence buroe then flood the lower levels to get the general to a hospital before he dies because of his attempted seppukku.

Carry on people you won't get invaded or nuked.

I never said everything would be perfect. It would just be a lot better under a Resource-Based Economy by default.

Edit: There would be a lot less war too... which brings us back to the main topic.

Unless you wanna get rich screwing over the system.

And what happens when we run out of resources?

It's also a James Bond movie plot.

Let the media billionaire take over the world by starting a war between China and Britain (which would bring the US into it). He uses a stealth submarine to sink a British destroyer that was off course (because the billionaire bought a device that scrambles the GPS systems on ships), making it look like the Chinese fighter out warning off the ship did it. He then steals the weapons on it. As his media network masterpiece nears completion, he sets off on his stealth sub to fire the stolen weapons on China. However, the idiot captured and brougth Bond with him on his submarine. Who kills everyone and makes the sub noticable to nearby British warships, which sink it.

OR

Bond foils a plot to sell powerful weapons to North Korea, supposedly killing the general's son. The general's son then gets a facelift to appear to be a European diamond mogul (aka white guy) who then launches a satellite with a giant laser on it in the name of science. James Bond and his CIA counterpart discover the truth - that the giant laser is actually going to be used to blaze a path through the DMZ so the North Korean army (under the guy's father) can invade South Korea. Unfortunately, James Bond gets onto the giant jumbo jet with his CIA partner. Madonna's no match for Halle Berry, however, so she dies. The general doesn't want to invade South Korea, so the son kills his father, which then allows Bond time to interfere and the plane clips the laser. From there, James Bond and the big bad guy fight a taser battle (Don't Tase Me Bro!) and Bond wins because the idiot guy gets sucked out of the plane into the engine. Fortunately for Bond and his CIA counterpart, the villain really liked cars, and there's a few in the back with chutes attached to escape death.

THE END

Meh, people shouldn't be too worried about this. Whatever happens, happens. There's no way any of us are going to fly to North Korea, have a sitdown and a cup of tea with Kim Jong-il and coerce him to be a nice guy. In short, we haven't got a hope in hell of changing anything - might as well sit back and let everything happen.

I dont think anyone could even want to get rich in a resource based economy. You should read on the matter and then discuss about it... not the other way around.

http://www.thevenusproject.com/resource_eco.htm

And as for running out of resources, resources would need to be scarce for that to ever happen and our universe has lots of resources.

I know the picture is small but if you can't see it you just need to google "National geographic universe" and it's the first picture in the list.

Problem with harvesting resources IN SPACE is that we presently can't travel to other planets in our OWN SOLAR SYSTEM in a reasonable amount of time. Right now, we can't leave our solar system and reach another without getting cancer, suffering zero-gravity problems and basically dying of old age.

Some day, sir, it might work. But right now, proooooobably not.

This isn't a big deal. North Korea is looking to test it's long range rockets so they can sell them to the highest bidder. The real worry is for Japan, who would retaliate with extreme force if by some accident the missle hit their country.

Yeah, I can imagine this playing out

North Korea: Thats it we are declaring war!

US+China+Basically the rest of the world: Fine, we are eager for a reason to capture your country and claim it is for the best, what are you going to do? Use missiles? We have a missile defense shield, bring it.
Missle defense shields don't work. They are a propaganda too. Remember the Patriot missle batteries from Desert Storm? They didn't do anything. [http://www.slate.com/id/2080615/]

Concidering the fact that we're not in some imminent shortage of ressources I think it's irrelevant to even mention this but just to discredit you I will point out a contradiction in what you just said.

http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/home/index.html

We traveled to mars, with the help of a robot. This proves without a doubt that we can reach other planets without any problem and gather any ressources we need at will.

If we can't go to space there will be robots to make those trips back and forth if needed and it wont be a problem. We just dont need it right now because we got so many ressources on the planet.

"At will"?

There is a big difference between sending a Tyco rover to with a kodak glued to the front to Mars and setting up a mining business there.

So what if they shoot down N.Korea's rocket.

North Korea doesn't have any allies, not even China will lend it's support nowadays. The most they could do is spit nasty words and declare war (considering they never declared peace there would be no point). Then the situation would be no different to the last 50 years or so.

Just bluff, relax, all parties have too much to lose. Sure Kim Jong Il is a crazy ************, but he still has basic human instincs: we are small and poor, they are really big and rich, we won't win. Yes they have China on their side (partially, well it's their best friend compared to the rest of the world), but China and the US are way too interwined at the moment to attack eachother.
Still, in a very very freaky and disturbing way, I can't wait for this to actually happen. Yes I'm wierd, and stupid.
