Average forum denizen upon hearing of anti-piracy measures, "Awww, but I like getting free stuff - I mean - this is an insult to freedom of speech and besides those guys had it coming to them for using DRM!"

4chan vs The American Government. What a war that would be!
I'd anticipate it to be as much a war as the cops telling a bunch of cruising teens to stop loitering in back of the supermarket parking lot. Granted, since anonymous is apparently DOS attacking prominent commerce sites, they'll probably not get off with a slap on the wrist.

An ambitious goal that can be easily thwarted by server movement and proxies.
In the end it only amounts to a political statement and minor inconveniences for a handful of pirates.
Is it worth the large amount of money this "plan" doubtlessly costs? I don't think so.
Warrant for website: $600+
Disruption of "Pirate" Business: $50+
Knowing the Government is bankrupting itself that much faster because it can't let businesses compete? Priceless.

Yawn. Wake me when they change something.
Pretty much. I'm skeptical, we've all seen the 'all talk, no walk' shtick. And really, they're trying to extend government power over the Internet. This isn't something people are just going to accept lying facedown.

Who would have thought it, the Internet is what will bring down the US government. Time to watch the fireworks.

This really isn't the government's area of operating or concern. If corporations have a problem with a site, they should sue it, or hire ninjas to do battle with the people guarding the servers.

That's awesome. Another sign of the American Gov't being bought by corporate interests...

How about you fix the fact that a huge percentage of your people are below the poverty line...
Our government throwing money at things doesn't help. Some of that money is bound to stick to someone's fingers, and the rest of it wouldn't make a dent in employment.

In other news, luxembourg declares war on the sun!
I happen to live in Luxembourg(No, really) and I can deny that we are at war with the sun. Many of us are not even aware of it's existance, as it is a very rare event that it's spotted in these parts. Would be like declaring war with bigfoot.
crap how did you find out about my war with bigfoot dam it did the loch ness monster rat me out. the jersey devil isnt going to like this
OT: yeah the same thing that happened with prohabition will happen again

Oh no, the horror! The very idea of not being able to get AAA titles for free chills me to the core. US Government, how dare you actually enforce the law. *shakes fist*

You know who the real internets villains are? Spambot networks, what are they doing to stop them? Unless, ofcourse, some of those spamworks are owned by the same companies that own the U.S government.

Wouldnt it be funny if the pirate revert to the old days of having massive LAN parties where they can swap and trade all their goods to their hearts content? Then some of those people host their own parties, and so on and so on.

Still, its gratifying to know that 8 year olds who copy a few songs off their friends ranks higher than finding Osama bin Laden.

To take a line from Liam Neisan's most awesome project (in my opinion) "Taken": "Good Luck"
Except the us government is more like the Albanian pimps than the angry father.

OH yes, because the way to "enforce the law" is to ban all american computers from foreign based web sites because they "may contain pirated materials". ...You sir fail for not being more aware of what this will ACTUALLY DO.
I'm not sure where you're getting your quote from, but I would be interested in hearing what you think the best way to enforce the law would be. If not the distributors, then who should they target?

I thought DHS had more pressing matters to worry about than this stuff but whatever... Good luck trying to crack down on this stuff once and for all, it's only like trying to crush the Alpha Legion. I just hope they're ready for the next mess Anon throws at them.

I can see all these people saying, this is nothing but about piracy and laughing my ass off at the irony of saying these pirates are getting what they deserve, all the while sporting pirated images as avatars.

You can pretend its not your problem if you like because you arent pirating, but in 10-20 years or more when the internet is broken down to a point of irrelevance because everything has been blocked, and no one is able to have any sort of degree of free speech or privacy, dont ***** about the good ole days because when the time came for you to make a stand and protect what you love, you sat on your hands doing absolutely nothing because... it wasnt your problem.

It boils my blood how some people cant see any further than 3 feet in front of their noses.

Biased, guilt tripping presentation of information and lack of insight about the whole deal is what makes it look bad. The reality is, the smaller games get pirated by the same amount of pirates, relative to the publicity the product gets on the internet. Now, the reason those rates are at 90% is not because piracy is literally smacking their sales into oblivion, it's because the sales aren't big enough (because the product isn't appealing and/or isn't marketed well enough for the people who actually buy stuff) to balance the numbers of piracy.

If the first thing you whine about when you have poor sales is piracy, you got yourself an unappealing product and it's as simple as that.
Ehem. Beg to differ when it comes to World of Goo. All around its considered a general good game... That nobody buys. Every single one of my friends that i talk to about 50-100 All played it. I bought it. SO thats like ehm, 1 %?

Also. If part's of the internet was every being closed down due to piracy. I would always, blame piracy. Its more logical than you might think. The only reason that they are targeting piratestuff now is when they noticed that their god damn servers host more than 20 million people. (Which is like, a third of the people who play the stuff to begin with)

While it's a good idea to be cracking down on piracy, the fact that the US government could have the potential to censor any site it wishes for whatever reason makes me incredibly uneasy.

The fact that they're catering to the corporate assholes instead of focusing on the well being of their own citizens just boggles the mind. Especially when they're 1 trillion+ dollars in deficit.

It doesn't help that, knowing Canada's absolutely lovely robotic Prime Minister, he'll probably want in on this too.
