Absolutly ridiculous that they are not allowing soldiers to make their own decision when it comes to purchasing a product. Yeah, you just have to go off base to get it, but come on now.
You're not free once you put on that uniform.

Are you telling me that there are Gamestop stores on Military bases? The fuck?
Possibly, my mate says that Camp Bastion in Afghan has a sort of mobile Pizza Hut and a Blockbuster.
Do they have a Wendy's as well? That would almost make up for the mortar fire, IEDs and suicide bombers.
He didn't mention that one, but I doubt it would being a British base. We don't have Wendys in blighty, though I hear nothing but good things.

I agree with this entirely; as a muslim, I would be offended if there's a game of U.S. Marines shooting at hordes of Muslims... oh wait.

Still not as ridiculous as when Wolfenstein was banned (as in completely illegal) in Germany. Not because you were shooting Germans, but because there were swastikas on those Germans. The mere fact that it had swastikas in the game (even though you were shooting the shit out of them) meant that they considered it offensive and illegal.

Common sense never seems to apply to government policies on video games.

Not to be insensative, but the military is fighting to protect freedom.

While reading the first amendment, one can (and is allow to) infer that it guarentees you the right to self expression. Freedom of Speech, etc.

Which means that no matter what the content is based around, as long as it doesnt pass the "Three Pronged Test" and is deemed 'obscene', that its your freedom to publish it. When it comes to our everyday life, its a great thing. Unfortunately, it also effects the people who have really far out there ideas and expressions (Westboro Baptist Church and Ku Klux Klan).

Can I see how it will be offensive? Yeah, I can see how it could tug on some peoples emotions. But thats why they don't have to buy it... Its their freedom to make that game, and allow people to play as the Taliban.

And its only symbolic. As the Taliban your not given missions to blow up army depos and civilians with IED's. If you look at Modern Warfare, you play as factions that are heavily implied to be terrorist groups. Yet you didnt see people bitching over that? (guess they were too busy taking offense to a terrorist attack in an airport).

The fact that the Military is banning that game purely off of something symbolic is really wrong. If they do this, why not ban Modern Warfare for having a terrorist attack, for showing soldiers die, and having you play as terrorists despite not given a faction name?

Didnt FFXIII's plot involve terrorism (one of them does)? LETS BAN THAT TOO. Gears of War 2 had invading bad guys, obviously criticizing the Bush administration for invading Iraq and Afghanistan. BAN IT TOO. Katamari Demaci is obviously offensive because its implied that that alien is a terrorist: he spreads fear and terror and destroys valuable things just to feed the cosmos.

ITS UPTO PEOPLE ON AN INDIVIDUAL LEVEL TO DECIDE WHAT IS OFFENSIVE AND WHAT IS NOT. WHILE AN OBSCENE TEST IS FINE, SERIOUSLY. IF A SOLDIER IS NOT OFFENDED, LET THEM BUY THE GAME. IF THEY ARE, NO ONES MAKING THEM PLAY.

Seriously. Stuff like this makes me want to shout.

Wtf? Really? Its total fiction! Shit as it have been said before why dont anyone react when you play as Nazis? This is just stupid.
As far as I remember, no one released a Nazi game while the actual war was being fought.

This thing seems a touch heavy-handed. Special Operators consult for the game and the AAFES thinks they know better? I don't mean to speak ill of a game's detractors, but it's shortsighted and reactionary.

Well seeing as how the whole airport thing completely destroyed sales for Modern Warfare 2, I'm sure the publicity this is generating must be seen by the EA marketing division as the worst thing that can possibly happen.

Konami decided to pull out of publishing Atomic Game's controversial Six Days in Fallujah game. Public opinion and popular sentiment scared them from releasing the game. The same situation is found here in this game.

They aren't saying that their soliders can not play the game, they are just saying they can not buy the game in their stores because they are being swayed with military public opinion and sentiment.

Calm down.

The Gamestop stores on military bases are even being allowed to tell customers where they can buy the game... if the military wanted to be real hardasses about this game they could have stopped that capability.

They aren't doing anything really drastic to stop people from playing this game. The military could filter packages and destory or confiscate all MOH games found amoung their troops. They could be setting up punishment details for anyone found playing the game... But they are not.

I don't understand why you have all this hate when the military isn't being real hardasses about this game.

Because full grown adults can't think for themselves when it comes to their own pasttime?

This is pathetic on so many levels, anyone who is currently in the service should have more brains than this.
Even worse that they ban a single war game and not all of them.

Every person in uniform understands that decisions like this happen on-base. It isn't even comment worthy.

As others said above, if they want it they can get it through other sources, just not in AAFES stores. Lots of stuff not carried/sold for similar reasons.

This is why Americans don't want government control, or socialism in the market place. You experience a taste of it when in uniform through little incidents like this.

We all much prefer making our own choices. Any of us who are not down with the Taliban representation in this game will vote with our dollars...by spending them elsewhere.

Just like Americans. And we'll keep fighting and killing the real world vicious scum Taliban. Just like Americans as well. There is nothing to admire about such people as the Taliban and their sympathizers. They hate liberty, freedom, women, and not necessarily in that order.
