Because (in theory) there are other magazines/papers other then the gaming and tech press at these conferences and they need them to be interested and so spread the interest to the casual players. GDC is now the hardcore gamers time in the sun.

i must say, watching this has legitimately pissed me off. i am looking for info about AC:Brotherhood and GR:FS...which i got, but it seemed to be stuck in a mire of a laser tag like game they tried to sell as innovative and basicly Wii Fit for other platforms...which really bugged me because they are trying to say it is innovative and amazing when nintendo has had the same thing for the past year

Protip for Ubisoft: It is not innovative if it has already been done!
