I would just like to remind people of this little situation in which Ubisoft mislead everyone on the DRM requirements for From Dust. Originally they said that they would only require you to make an initial activation online, and not require online after. They lied, derp.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/08/ubisoft-lied-about-from-dust-drm-ubis-war-on-pc-gamers-continues/

Thing is too, I thought they removed the DRM entirely after that debacle. Seems like we were mislead again.

I don't really have an issue with "always online" DRM and I never have. I'm basically always online, and it's never been an issue for me.

That said, the companies implementing this bullshit need to hold up their end of the bargain. THEY need to be always online too. If I'm online more than they are, we have a problem.

Ubisoft has been clowning this DRM thing up from the word go. It's obvious they have absolutely no idea what they're doing. They really need to just call it a day.

Probably Ubisoft press release:

"And clearly the number of pirates is escalating, after our online service went down for a few days not allowing customers to log on and play even their single player games, the number of pirated copies of our products lurched forward a few thousand digits. This is clearly a case for why we will no longer support the PC platform."
It's funny how they force people into pirating their games and then they complain, they are providing the most useless and shityess service and then they complain about the consequences.

They're doing it with consoles aswell! They advertised local co-op for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and featured it on the box but you can't actually do it! You can't play off-line co-op either & you need a pass to play co-op! It complete bullshit! Me & my housemate rented it for that very puropse!

I would love Ubisoft if it weren't for this. Genuinely love PoP games and AC - but their freaking DRM. Only remembered after I installed Anno 2070 yesterday and couldn't even log on.

EDIT: [HEADING=2]If this is still down for you, create an account with Uplay, then enter your log in information on the Uplay client and tick "remember me". Repeatedly click "Log in". Took me about 15 times before it worked - hoped this helped someone as pissed as I was[/HEADING]

A good example of the stealth price increases on games these days. Perhaps the face price has stayed steady or been put on sale, but every instance like this is lost value for your purchase.

Evening out the field a bit, considering PC games have higher total value than console equivalents. (increased mod ability, longer lifetimes, more robust communities, longer hardware compatibility life). Figure bull like this is just evening out the value a bit.

Holy hell guys, I mean come one, it happens all the time. Remember when steam rolled out steam cloud and it absolutely demolished your ability to play left 4 dead...for like 2 whole weeks of off and on outages?
I understand that Steam is still DRM, but they do enough that makes it a worthy trade-off for me. Ubisoft doesn't do that. I should not have to deal with a company using buggy, bullshitty DRM and treating me like a criminal because I paid for a game legally. I bought From Dust legally. I should be able to play it without having to create an account for a service I don't want and never intend to use. Why am I so wrong to think that?

What is it with gamers anyway? We tell each other to vote with our wallets, and then when we do just that, we get told we're overreacting. Make up your fucking minds.
You realize that steam forces people to create an account with them too right? Half the games out there require steam registration, the user has no other choice. While you may voluntarily accept Steam's DRM there are other people out there who might not want steam's DRM but they just like you in UPlay's instance are force to sign up for it. So that point is rather moot.

Steam isn't buggy? What about the instances where steam's overlay directly clashes with games, see problems with Far Cry and Rainbow Six: Vegas. In both people have issues with the game launching through steam, valve has never bothered to address the issue, nor do they care. Instead you have to go in and mess with the files, download 3rd party patches, and even extract the exe from steam to launch the game.

Oh and how about more buggy-ness from steam in regards to UPlay, Ghost Recon Future Solider, rolls out, oh no there are launch problems...a patch was released the same day. Oh but since steam's system doesn't let you update through UPlay you can't patch the game. Oh but people who bought it from retail got to enjoy their game. What's that Ubisoft handed valve the patch right away but steam didn't bother to put it up on their client until 2-3 days later. I bought the game but I can't play it because of steam's bullshit.

Protip: If you EVER buy an Ubisoft game, the VERY next thing you should do is download a pirate made crack for it.

The pirates provide better programing than Ubi does for their stuff, and Steam doesnt give two shits if the game is cracked on your end.
I wrote a post but don't want to get banned, will leave this though.

Ubisoft is a company that legitimately deserves to go under. The fact that Ubisoft is still around with their short sighted thinking, and utterly fucking stupid business practices, is a crime against logic.

If I buy a game that is not an MMO, and have to create some stupid account for it? I'm already on the route to being ticked off.

But if I create your stupid little account and you still won't let me play? Then screw you.

So according to Ubisoft's twitter account the issue with uPlay is "resolved." While I'm hoping that means that when I boot up my computer uPlay will apologize for existing and uninstall itself complete with a video of itself melting in lava like the Terminator, I'm guessing that just means logins work now. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? I'd like to know if my games will be actually playable before I get my hopes up...

Ahh, this makes me nostalgic for that guy that used to come to every Ubisoft thread and say they were the worst company ever because they hadn't made any good Wii games.

OT: Could someone please explain to me what the purpose of UPlay is? I've only experienced it through my PS3 & 360 and all it seems to add is an extra hurdle to getting started.
