Oh my god. This has cheered me up immensely... I don't have the game yet, obviously. First, I should clarify. My sympathies go out to all of you trying to play AC2. But, this is a massive kick in the balls for Ubi. Everyone laugh along with me. Come on, it will make you feel better.

That said, commenting on this particular story, and given the details we have on hand, it's incredibly pedantic to be making that differentiation.

Mebbe, but Andy did mention it in the write-up. I'm just aware that in their situation, I'd be engaged in damage control as well.
If you say up front you have an unbreakable system, you can't not expect someone to have a go at breaking it. That's the problem with DRM, it's presenting the Galleons with a Merchantman full o' goodies.

This is the first time I honestly hope that the pirates win. Which is really the only solution, unless ass-soft releases a new patch that makes this singleplayer game more like a SINGLEplayer game. As in it does not need the internet to function!

This is what happens when you declare war on the internet. No matter how powerful a company thinks it is, the people of the world are stronger. There are more people in the world than any organization can possibly defend themselves against.

Though I would never participate in anything like this, I condone this activity. DRM sucks HARD.

Off Topic: I clicked that forum link given in the article. One thread in particular caught my eye. I've seen sheep before, but wow. Just wow. [http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4721051016/m/1801034838] Anyone who honestly thinks that this DRM-scratch that, ANY DRM actually helps against piracy clearly doesn't know a single god damn thing about piracy.
Just to add some context, 4chan have been trolling the hell out of the Ubi boards for the past few days with 'OMG WE LUV DRM!!!1!!!11!!!'.

For, as I'm sure they would agree, the lulz.

That doesn't change the fact that it is a bunch of malicious users that are ACTIVELY ruining the game for everyone else, and that, in their absence, the game would be working as planned.

I read the rest of your post. The point that had to be made clear is that People attempting to hack a companies server is business as usual. It´s not like this just happened because Ubisoft attracted especially malicious Users.

I didn`t quote the rest of your post because I think that this point really can`t be argued.
I would argue that. Yes, it's business as usual that a company would find it's servers under attack. Which is why I think that it's pretty clear that these particular attacks are under way specifically because "Ubisoft attracted especially malicious Users". Ubi would have put the same security in place on these servers that they would have on any of their business servers. As they are able to do business day to day, and are evidently not crippled in their normal operation, it is reasonable to assume that if these outages are a result of attacks, those attacks are more intense and more aggressive than Ubi typically faces. The correlation with the launch of their new DRM scheme is likely not coincidental, either.

The implementation of this DRM andgred a huge number of people - and moreso in the harder-core PC users' parts of the internet. I would argue that this is ENTIRELY the result of backlash from a group of angred PC gamers (pirates or otherwise), and not in any way the "business as usual" attacks they would recieve on any other given day.

Okay, this has been fun for a while, but now, it's becoming absolutely hilarious!! XD

Seriously, who the fuck still thinks, that these so called "attacks" will cease, and Ubi will straighten up? They are lying like there is no tomorrow, trying to blame anyone but themselves for this. The blunder of the fucking century! I do think heads will roll at Ubi's, and I won't settle for less, starting with the ones who came up with the idea for this retarded fucking DRM fraud.

And yes, all the usual "I told you so", "serves them right" and "OMGWTFLFMAO!!1!" still applies. I can't wait to see what they'll lie next, this is fucking entertainment :D

Given that a lack of malicious users would invalidate the entire reason behind the DRM existing in the first place, I think we can agree that the blame lies squarely on Ubisoft's shoulders for not only failing to implement a secure obtrusive DRM scheme but for failing to anticipate reprisal from the user-base itself.

From a Machiavellian standpoint, this is like oppressing the masses when you don't have enough power to protect yourself from the inevitable revolt.

Effiminate? I resent that coming from a Canuck.

At the risk of stating the obvious, these attacks are going to keep happening until the hackers have the information they need to properly crack the game. They're clearly probing for weaknesses or simply gathering data on when and how it works. Just the same way they beat anti cheats by spamming hacks and recording the bans, then basing the next hacks off that...
I don't think that's the case. I think this is being perpetrated by (if that's actually the case) a group of gamers who are seeking to prove Ubisoft wrong in their deluded concept the new DRM represents. They're proving their point in the face of Ubisoft failing to uphold their self-assured smugness and idiocy.

Must be Templars trying to censor AC2.
They do not want the trust to come out!

...although find it hilarious this is happening. If it is because someone dislikes the new DRM then Ubisoft may be forced into a rather tight corner...

Wow, thats an excellent comparison. I would have to type so much less if I only were so witty.

I wonder if Ubisoft keeps their promise (well they said maybe) that they will remove the Drm when a fully functional crack is released.
Then this would be a decisive win for consumer rights. You could maybe even sell your used copy.
I still think that destroying the used game market was the primary objective of the drm. Because this is the only thing the drm ever could hope to achieve.
But it sounds alot greedier than the rationale that Pirates are evil and the drm is there to protect Ubisoft from them
....
which is why pirates are the only ones currently able to play the game.

If Ubisoft comes to their senses and removes the drm I can finally buy Assassins creed 2 without feeling like I just did something amoral.

Oh my god, I LOVE THIS!!! This is like watching a bad train wreck over and over again, with the conductor blaming his bad engineering on the passengers. I may not be able to play AC2 on my computer, but this sure as hell ain't bad entertainment either.
that's the way i see it too! i don't know who is messing things up inside Ubisoft, but there won't be anything good coming out of this at the end of the tunnel...

-i continued your train thingy hehe-
