Mebbe, but Andy did mention it in the write-up. I'm just aware that in their situation, I'd be engaged in damage control as well.Matt_LRR said:That said, commenting on this particular story, and given the details we have on hand, it's incredibly pedantic to be making that differentiation.

Just to add some context, 4chan have been trolling the hell out of the Ubi boards for the past few days with 'OMG WE LUV DRM!!!1!!!11!!!'.PhunkyPhazon said:Off Topic: I clicked that forum link given in the article. I would argue that. Yes, it's business as usual that a company would find it's servers under attack. Which is why I think that it's pretty clear that these particular attacks are under way specifically because "Ubisoft attracted especially malicious Users". Ubi would have put the same security in place on these servers that they would have on any of their business servers. As they are able to do business day to day, and are evidently not crippled in their normal operation, it is reasonable to assume that if these outages are a result of attacks, those attacks are more intense and more aggressive than Ubi typically faces. The correlation with the launch of their new DRM scheme is likely not coincidental, either.GiantRedButton said:I read the rest of your post. I didn`t quote the rest of your post because I think that this point really can`t be argued.
Given that a lack of malicious users would invalidate the entire reason behind the DRM existing in the first place, I think we can agree that the blame lies squarely on Ubisoft's shoulders for not only failing to implement a secure obtrusive DRM scheme but for failing to anticipate reprisal from the user-base itself.GiantRedButton said:I read the rest of your post. I don't think that's the case. I think this is being perpetrated by (if that's actually the case) a group of gamers who are seeking to prove Ubisoft wrong in their deluded concept the new DRM represents. They're proving their point in the face of Ubisoft failing to uphold their self-assured smugness and idiocy.fix-the-spade said:Effiminate? I resent that coming from a Canuck.
At the risk of stating the obvious, these attacks are going to keep happening until the hackers have the information they need to properly crack the game. They're clearly probing for weaknesses or simply gathering data on when and how it works. Just the same way they beat anti cheats by spamming hacks and recording the bans, then basing the next hacks off that...

Wow, thats an excellent comparison. I would have to type so much less if I only were so witty.brewbeard said:From a Machiavellian standpoint, this is like oppressing the masses when you don't have enough power to protect yourself from the inevitable revolt.

For, as I'm sure they would agree, the lulz.
that's the way i see it too! i don't know who is messing things up inside Ubisoft, but there won't be anything good coming out of this at the end of the tunnel...PhunkyPhazon said:Oh my god, I LOVE THIS!!!
