Well despite a few thousand people being turn back from the polling station as the queues were too long the votes are pretty much in.

Conservatives: 36.1% of the vote, 295 seats.
Labour: 29%, 252 seats
Lib-Dems: 22% 53 seats (isnt our electoral system weird)

So are you happy with the result? Did your candidate win? What are your predictions for the next week or so?

(Oh my favourite part of the election. Jacqui Smith - the former Home Secretary loses her seat because her husband watched pay per view porn and wrote it on her MP expenses, thus making her position untenable. Hope he was into the rough stuff cos shes gonna kick his arse all over the place.)

I'm pretty disappointed with the results. I was hoping the Lib Dems would fare much better, and the Conservative MP in my area regained the seat. 'Tis a sad day.

Can someone explain the big hullabaloo over establishing a majority in Parliament?

What is different about the political process that makes a majority position so important?

Well, because of the mess-ups in several polling stations to do with being unable to deal with a higher turnout than last election (though turnout is lower than in the 70s and 80s and they never had problems back then), along with the attempt to woo the Lib Dems by Labour by going along with voting reform and the fact that the Conservatives will almost certainly have to work with the Lib Dems, there's never been a more likely Parliament to enact serious voting reform than this one.
Here's hoping this actually comes true.

*grumble grumble*

The only good thing (in my opinion - I voted Lib Dem) to come out of this election is that Clegg has come forward in support of Cameron so at least we get Labour out. I reckon a Tory/Lib Dem split parliament could be an interesting concept, although there are more than a few people (29% of them, apparently) who'll disagree with me on that.

I dont think they do, even with their seats a lib/Lab coalition isnt big enough. Think the SNP and Plaid Cymru have the power.

I HAVVVEE THA POWwEEEERR. Sorry, i had to say that.

Hrmm...Didn't go great. I was expecting a far bigger amount of seats for the Lib Dems, given the momentum they got. Still, it's looking like a hung parliament, and thankfully, with Peter Robinson gone, it's very unlikely Cameron will be able to do deals with the Ulster Unionists, denying him the power to push his legislation through.

Anyway, I'm glad Sinn Fein held on to their seats.
Every DUP seat made me cringe. I laughed at Robinson's loss.

Hehe, a definite highlight. I couldn't stand her when she was Home Secretary. I'm not sure how anyone thought it was a good idea to appoint her.

Though I think it was more a matter of her being crap at her job than just her expenses.

Not a single seat went to the BNP, regardless of of the whole hung parliament, it's a great day against far right politics.

Ah well, we have hung Parliament. If Clegg doesn't abandon us, we can all laugh at the Tories as they fail to push anything right wing through. Hopefully Uni fees will stay the same, and looks like the gays are fine, if Lib/Lab shit on everything the Eton boy tries to push through.

The leader of the majority party is invited to form a government by the Queen. If that doesn't happen then Gordon Brown stays PM and things get complicated.

Man wish I got turned away from voting, those people can claim £750 for breach of their human right to vote as set down by the EU.

Pretty much the election was choosing the lesser of three evils and I expect to be back in the voting booth in about a year.

The polling station problems are a complete atrocity. I can't believe people actually got told they couldn't vote. Apparently in Sheffield the people were so pissed about it they wouldn't let the ballot box leave! This country is a fucking mess. Thankfully I'm jumping ship as soon as I've finished my training.

The only thing I personally can take as good from the whole thing is that the local Lib dem MP Jeremy Browne managed to keep his seat.

In all honesty I would've preffered a Labour/Lib dem coalition but they just don't have the numbers. And unfortunately Labour has offered them electoral reform whereas Conservatives haven't, as of yet anyway. Bloody typical.

I'm disappointed that so many people have blindly listened to David Cameron and swung round to the Conservatives. This see-sawing political system does no one any good as nothing ever really changes, cause everything the current party do will be undone by their successor. I wish people would vote with their heads and not simply just "going for the big party that isn't in office just now."

I don't get how Americans can be satisfied having only the Democrats and Republicans. Unfortunately, despite the presence of other parties, this country boils down to Labour and Conservatives so it's pretty much the same. Anyway, I have digressed.

I just think that things will go on usual. Certain people will argue, certain people will spend money thats not theirs and the rest of popluation can just wander round as normal with an uneasy feeling that somewhere along the line we're going to be get screwed.

I'm not really happy with the results... particularly with the fact that Liberal Democrats have pretty much confirmed that they will be forming a coalition government with Conservatives...

Overall though, I guess I couldn't have asked for anything worse - afterall, I support Liberal Democrats and they will have a huge say on how the Conservatives govern, and the coalition will probably fail anyway... I'm hoping that there will be another election in the near future, this time with proportional representation rather than first-past-the-post system (hopefully Lib Dems will be able to pressure the Conservatives into changing the system), that way Liberals will have a much greater chance of winning, or at least get much better results.

Still, I would have preferred it if another Lib-Lab coalition had formed... anything but the Tories!
