I predict this will go over about as well as prohibition went over here in the 'States. There will be mobsters in trench coats selling CDs of bootleg internet porn and speakeasies hidden in the back of "social clubs" where, if you know the password, they'll let you back in to use an old computer with a mouse whose buttons stick for reasons you don't really want to know.

Never mind this opt-in nonsense, who wants their name on an official pervert list?

Speaking as a former kid myself, I have to say if kids want to see tits, they will find ways to sneak a peak at tits. Getting a subscription to National Geographic, renting a copy of Titanic... there are a million ways to see tits today, the internet is just the easiest. If you really want to help kids, stop treating sex and the human body as some kind of shameful evil thing and teach them respect and reverence for it.

Because, of course, looking at porn instantly turns your in a sex offender. Didn't you know?

I'm curious as to how the "opt-in" program will work. Will there just be a button that says "Yes, I'm over 18, show me the pornos"? Because I'm fairly sure that many of those sites already do that.

Oh, yeah, not like parents could do this on their own. By checking their kid's browser history, or blocking porn sites with that "parental control" option on every fucking computer.

Why do people rely on the government now for shit they can do in three minutes?

Oh man, poor UK. This isn't going to solve early sexualisation. If anything it will probably increase bootleg porn sales, but this time a big buyer will be underage kids.

I think people would rather opt in than attempt to sneak around to find bootlegged internet porn. Also, as a former kid, we knew what father had the Play Boys and how to get them if we really wanted. I am sure these kids will know what family opted in and then looking at porn while drastically under age will be a social event once again.

Because taking responsibility is hard, did you not know?

OT: What exactly is going to change again? It seems like a blue law.

Oh, in the UK. Damn, sucks to be a Brit. I thought the US was bad with their "government nanny" laws.
Most of our laws are more corporate laws. The government nanny deal isn't so bad here, it's just that if you hurt a corporation's feelings, you will spend your life in debtor's prison.

Completely and utterly baffled.

Why is it we live in a world where it is acceptable for children to watch people murder each other, yet not acceptable for them to watch sex?

I'm not advocating that porn should be encouraged for minors to watch or anything like that. I won't want my children watching it. I'm just a little bit confused and I don't believe that seeing porn does anything wrong to children.

Um I think people born in the late 80's early 90's where the last generation to you know get by parental controls to get our porn. I mean Anyone from our generation who has kids doesn't have the excuses our parents had about not understanding how they worked or how they were applied. I mean I would assume if you were underage these days and have parents who were raised in the tech generation who wanted to stop the porn incoming they would have it stopped.

I agree with you, there will be plenty who will opt in. I was just being overly dramatic with the first part, to be honest.

Christ I don't want the UK to get like the states, So lots of blood gore violence and bad language is fine as long as there is no nudity....

Lets get our priorities right, for kids nudity is a regular thing, I mean seriously how many times did I see my parents or other siblings nude when I was growing up. I know pornography isn't simply nudity but sex is a natural thing. Violence on the other hand is hardly natural. I think I would be more concerned about the violence my kids saw rather than the nudity or sex.

Again the government getting involved in issues Its not supposed to. I thought we had a Conservative and Liberal government. You know a government that didn't want things to change and were all for civil liberties. Its about the only thing I like about the two at the moment that they stand for civil liberties because their stance on everything else is crap.

As for preventing kids from accidently viewing porn. Most browsers have safety modes on that restrict adult content. With that on its pretty hard to access porn without actively looking for it. Kids will watch porn if they want to simply put. I think this is an issue for parents really rather than the government.

I'm sorry, does anyone raise their kids anymore or is that out of fashion now?

This really seems weird to me.

Sex, after all, is a perfectly natural process, whereas violence is the opposite. Why is it O.K. to kill people but not have sex? Isn't in the opposite IRL?
That's a very backwards system we've got going on there, isn't it?
