Games mentioned so far that I own or have played:
Impossible Creatures
Whiplash
Black and White
Phantom Dust
Pulseman
BattleTanx: Golbal Assault
Kickle Cubicle
Mickey Mousecapade
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Gotcha Force
Ico
Megaman Legends 2
Gundam: Federation vs Zeon
Rygar - both NES and PS2 versions
3D World Runner
GUN
Mischief Makers
Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker
I-Ninja
Darkwatch
Phantom Crash - not this exactly, but I've played S.L.A.I. on PS2 which is a remake or a
sequel or something.
Mischief Makers is in my top three favorite platformers of all time.
Gotcha Force and Fed vs Zeon are very similar, and unfortunately there aren't any good games that I know of that have similar gameplay. Of the two, Gotcha Force is much faster-paced and more fun. It has a lot of serious flaws too, but the core gameplay is good and I'd like to see more games like this. Virtual On is also similar if anyone has played it.
Metal Arms is easily the most fun 3rd person shooter/platformer I've played, and is in fact the only one I've played that smoothly integrated both platforming and shooting without feeling like too much of one or the other.
BattleTanx was a favorite party game among my circle of friends, so I was surprised to see it here.
Not much to say on the rest, though I'd like to add Bomberman 64 and Darksun: Shattered Lands.
Bomberman 64 is one of the few 2D games that made a good transition to 3D. It turned the standard single-player part of Bomberman into a puzzle/adventure game, yet it still has that classic feel to it. The multiplayer is exactly what you'd expect, but in 3D. Bombs have a circular radius now, and you throw them at people. Enough said.
Darksun is a very old, very flawed western RPG for the PC. Despite its age and glitchyness, it also did more things right than any RPG I've played since (admittedly, I don't play very many PC RPGs). There are no random encounters, and thus every fight feels like it has some reason to occur. You are given many dialogue choices at various opportunities which can effect how story events play out. I know that's a common thing now, but Darksun's moral choices aren't nearly as black and white as they are in today's games, and in fact the game pulled off the whole system better than anything else I've played. The opening starts you off in a colluseum-like arena, and there are at least 6 different ways to escape. I'd go on, but just give it a shot. It deserves a look.
