I indicates that some things are left unsaid. Putting a period at the end shows that the sentence is over. But put an elipsis at the end and well...

Don't know why she got upset though. Doesn't make that much sense to me. It's not that big of a deal... :p

NFI, sorry! I am a big fan of the ellipsis though...I am all over that shit!
People just have their quirks I guess but wiki-ing an article to prove an otherwise useless piece of information (sorry, I just don't think being sent a wiki link to ellipsis will fly for most people) its a little..um..condescending, perhaps?

ignore it and put it down to the stupidity of the current generation
Grammer and spelling seems to have degenerated into something eye-watering, as evidenced by sms's, online gaming and youtube commentors

Maybe because you linked a Wikipedia page to a girl? Chicks don't dig that...

And it sort of makes it feel like you were disappointed that she had to go... and judging by what she said, I can assume that you use them a lot... I do too, don't worry... and no, I wasn't putting those in there for added effect. Go to my profile and read some of my other posts. I have that same problem.

Oh, and you were also way to ready to defend your use of ellipses.

I think using ellipsis with "Bye..." does sound a little awkward, at least the way I imagine it being said. It just sounds like you're disappointed she's leaving and are offended that she is. At least, that sounds like how she interpreted it.

Maybe this is just me, but has anybody else noticed that a lot of 15-18 year olds describe lots of conversations as "awkward"?

It gets annoying when people do it all the time like she said you did. It'll irritate everyone at some point if you do it enough.

I know...that a lot of other people...have done this exact same thing...which is why...I'm going to do it, too...I think if the OP reads enough posts like this...he/she will realize what they did wrong...Also, why would you bring up Wikipeda?...She already knows what they are...that isn't the issue...She wasn't asking why people in general use them...she was asking why you (and you alone...)...use them so in such great quantity...You know....

Anyway...

That's my thoughts on the matter...

Also, imagine if people actually talked like this....are you really telling me...that that wouldn't be awkward...?

The thing is... when you add ellipses to the end of "bye" it it's going make it "sound" like you you are annoyed by the conversation ending. Considering you were talking about pizza, it would be pretty strange to be annoyed.

If you wanted to express something in regard to her not actually leaving, you should probably do something like this:
Her: gtg
you: ok bye
*several minutes go by*
you: bye?
or
you: still there I see?
or even
you: wtf how dare you pretend to have to leave. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TALK TO ME ANYMORE JUST SAY SO!!! Our friendship is over...

Now how in the world do you go about pronouncing "...?"

The 'gtg' annoys me. I really hate it when people use text talk.

That's about it.
Tell me about it.
Just added one of my boyfriends friends on facebook and this is how she posts.

"Jst avin probs wit my bf all cus iv tld im dt e as changd so i've tld im 'bye'. i cnt b doin wit ne fin at d moment."

It's funny because I was just telling him how annoyed I am by it. xD
Alright, I'm gonna try and translate this...

"Just having problems with my boyfriend all because I've told him that he has changed so I've told him 'bye'. I can't be doing...at the moment."
Yeah, that's all I got.

Some people hate ellipses with a burning passion or attach conversational meaning to them.
"Bye..." could mean "WTF why r u saying bye? im not done!" or feel like you're looking at her with a sidelong annoyed glance for saying goodbye.
It's possible from what I've seen on forums.

Don't worry.

Her logging off when you try to educate her just means she's into you and doesn't mean you're boring and straight up ignoring her comments. Remember, no means yes! ;]

Go get her tiger.

It speaks of awkwardness and unsaid words. As far as I know, girls don't like that. So as far as facebook conversations go, leave them out. It may hurt inside because you aren't using your full grammatical knowledge, but you won't make people angry, or make them feel awkward.

And you my friend, deserve an award! xD

But yeah, sometimes I post on my friends status updates when they post like that and put it in proper english. xD It just annoys me that much. Of course though, I probably annoy them when I do it. Oh well, type in complete sentences and I wouldn't do it.

When they start talking in "text talk". They always text, ttfn and gtg. It just confuses the crap out of me.
