Not necessarily underrated, but I'd say it's overlooked, so I'm going to throw in some praise for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. When people think of "good Star Trek movies", they generally go to The Wrath of Khan, maybe First Contact, and the recent series reboot. However, The Voyage Home is special for a reason: because of its plot, it forced the actors to actually act. They couldn't hide behind technobabble or special effects any more - and they pulled it off admirably.

The other being the Evil Dead series. Army Of Darkness in particular, it was so low rated inverse to its quality and entertainment value that it's almost criminal.
I love Bruce Campbell. And, oh hey! you've stolen my words. Again. Bastard.

Even though its fanbase is starting to grow, I can't help but mention Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Any movie where Paris Hilton?s face falls off is ok by me!
OT: once upon a time in the west. A western with Charles Bronson need I say more??
She wasn't really that bad in that film, although the character she played made it so that she didn't even need to act.
I didn't mind her acting, but just seeing a celebrity of her status face fall off makes me laugh. I also love how in the movie Luigi bought her face.

Taken, everyone gave the same complaint and it was a stupid one. You know what it was? That he was to mean. Apparently a protagonist that doesn't make a storybook ending is just not a good one.

I loved the movie Zoolander, I thought it was utterly hilarious, but many other people I talk to didn't enjoy it near as much apparently.
I loved it too. It wasn't the most subtle movie ever but it was fun.

The Chronicles of Riddick movie was so bad that I actually left midway. But to each their own.

OT: Treasure Planet. Why doesn't anyone like it?!
Batman Beyond. Yeah it's a tv show, but whatever. (Prepares for fanboy assualt)
Yeah I have heard so many people say it's bad but I don't see how. The main character is so dark and sees past everything. He kills anyone he feels needs to die but he is not ungodly over powered. And who doesn't like sci-fi and can call them self a gamer? I mean sure it's not the most thought provoking movie but it's fun to watch.
I hope both of you have seen Pitch Black, if not go watch it now. go watch Yahtzee's review of Assault on Dark Athena for a bit of explaination. In my opinion, Pitch black is amazing.

Everyone who posted in favor of Evil Dead deserves to be sainted.

Also, The Warriors. This is a great movie, it deserves more than some lame cult status.

Fine, my current three are the Rambo series, which despite being pretty damn stupid, is still very enjoyable as action films. Plus, you can't not like Sylvester Stallone!
Honestly, I've separated First Blood away from the rest of the Rambo movies, the rest of the movies are a fair amount of ass compared to the first one.

More OT: Anything by the Mark Brothers [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-zR2pM_S5U] to be comedic geniuses.

I don't know if it is exactly underrated anymore considering that I have just seen a commercial for a movie called Repomen which is about a futuristic society in which corporations run a world organ trade, and the main character is a man sent out to reposses the organs of people who cannot make their payments.

maintstream ripoffs tend to indicate popularity.

I apologize for being the douche who says this but use the search bar. This [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.173624-Greatest-underrated-movies] thread was done less than a month ago.

Serious answer: The Brothers Bloom. Great movie that few have heard of let alone seen.
Funny (but true) answer: Half Past Dead. It's Seagal's funniest movie and I absolutely un-ironically love it!

Primer is an underrated movie, probably the best movie on time travel there is.
That movie soared miles over my head! It took 3 tries for me to understand what the hell happened. Great movie though, probably the best movie out there that explores time travel seriously.

Here's one I'm sure most adult men won't agree with: Aladdin. Greatest Disney musical ever! Then theirs Mallrats, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back!, which most of the people I know haven't seen. And even though its not a movie, I'm gonna show some Invader Zim love here too.

You should read the first post on a thread oh you may not have known I wrote it. I have also mentioned that game around the forum. It's very original in my opinion.

The Messenger;

It's the story of Joan of Arc told in such a way that allows you the viewer to decide for yourself; was she really sent by god? Or was Joan merely a psychotic with a sword? Dustin Hoffman has a few scenes in this movie that really sell it for me. Who is he exactly? (My fave scene is when he's questioning Joan about the "signs" she witnessed. You'll know it when you see it. :) )

There is a little known film called Repo Man, starring Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez, freaking strange film but i totally enjoyed it.

Also there are a few Terry Gilliam films that aren't widely known but are awesome, like the Fisher King and Tideland, both featuring the pure awesome that is Jeff Bridges.
