The Matrix sequels, people get so fixated on one aspect of a story (agents, the physics defiance, Hugo Weaving's head, etc.) They try and expand the Universe since both sequels came back to back instead of using a video game or cartoon to do it (wait a minute......). Ok that aside i say the fixation on gunplay in the 1st Matrix killed the sequels the same way some people fell in love with Jedis, Jedis are not the center of Star Wars but now I'm getting off topic. I enjoyed the Matrix Trilogy as a whole and maybe I'm one of a rare few, but hey there's my two cents

Whilst I don't normally comment in threads like this, I'll make this an exception and post one of my favourite films of all time here.

This movie was released a few years back, based on a book by Philip K. Dick. The book is loosely based around its author's life and experiences with drugs, to the extent that a lot of people he knew (including himself) were either dead or faced some very bad or terminal diseases. It follows the life of Bob Arctor, also known as the anonymous drug agent 'Frank'. His job is to track down the sources of drug dealers and, more specifically, those dealing in a new drug called Substance D or 'Death', a drug which can seperate the bonds between the two sides of the brain. In order to do this, he integrates himself into the drugs scene but slowly finds himself becoming an addict to Substance D like those among him. This gets worse when the name of a drug user called Bob Arctor starts to be heard of, and 'Frank' gets assigned to keep an eye on Bob Arctor and the drug addicts he's friends with.

The film didn't get much good criticism of it and was a complete flop at the cinemas. I did see it in the cinemas, but I was only 13 at the time and failed to take much of it in. I have since, however, read the book and bought the film on DVD and it is one of my favourite films about.

The animation, whilst being somewhere between real-life and obvious cartoon, adds a surreal experience to the film which it required in order to do the book any justice. Also, it was the best they were able to do to be close to the book back when it was released; live-action would've been a great pain in the ass to attempt.

The plot can be confusing to understand, but it is a brilliant piece of work to see it being acted out, and the acting is very well done as well from some of the big names in the film (Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Winona Ryder, Woody Harrelson etc.).

I would say more, but if I wanted to write a review of this film, I'd make a thread in User Reviews. All in all, it's definately a film I would advise watching at some point.

EDIT: It also has one of my personal favourite film scenes ever [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaLLy-U8MkI&NR=1] in it.

I was also shocked a while back to hear that Donnie Darko [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6LkdL8THFo] and The Shawshank Redemption [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec4dGY46_1E] were both flops at the cinemas, and only became successes afterwards when they were put on shelves. However, both of those films get plenty recognition enough nowadays. I also think some of Shane Meadows' work (Dead Man's Shoes [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOvD12IGteA] & A Room for Romeo Brass [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhuD5cF9bBs]) are under-rated as well; pretty much the only film he gets recognition from in the main public is This is England [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0jkv2bRFgQ].

The Chronicles of Riddick movie was so bad that I actually left midway. But to each their own.

OT: Treasure Planet. Why doesn't anyone like it?!
Batman Beyond. Yeah it's a tv show, but whatever. (Prepares for fanboy assualt)
Yeah I have heard so many people say it's bad but I don't see how. The main character is so dark and sees past everything. He kills anyone he feels needs to die but he is not ungodly over powered. And who doesn't like sci-fi and can call them self a gamer? I mean sure it's not the most thought provoking movie but it's fun to watch.
I hope both of you have seen Pitch Black, if not go watch it now. go watch Yahtzee's review of Assault on Dark Athena for a bit of explaination. In my opinion, Pitch black is amazing.
You should read the first post on a thread oh you may not have known I wrote it. I have also mentioned that game around the forum. It's very original in my opinion.
wow, brain fart on my part. However i do disagree with you on how good the second movie is, in my opinion it isnt nearly as good (not even close). for my reasons again see yahtzee beginning of the review.

Problem with me is i dont know how to tell if a movie is under rated or not. So ill just go with the obvious, in north america its pretty safe to say anime movies are generally under rated. So go check out princess mononoke already.

Everything is Illuminated

My favorite holocaust film with a fresh way of approaching what happened. It's understated (which is an extreme rarity for films of this topic) and for the first half of the film it's a comedy (yes, you do laugh despite it being the holocaust) and then becomes poignant and serious.

I suppose a good way to sum it up is it's tagline

"Everything is illuminated by the light of the past"
