You know what I mean. Can you think of those weapons that seemed like they should be more useful but they fail to be of any help at all for no particular reason. Not only that, they're just not as impressive as they should be, like a shotgun that's too quiet or pistols weaker than flashlights.

This is not about ranting or just complaining. This is about disappointing weapons in good games that aren't as impressive as they should they been as should have been.

The most obvious offender: Doom 3. The chainsaw, the BFG and the super shotgun in the Resurrection of Evil expansion pack were the only weapons which didn't suck. For a sequel to reboot of a game that defined the entire FPS genre as we know it, the arsenal was disappointingly pathetic.

I would say when Call of Duty: Black Ops came out and silenced snipers didn't kill someone with headshots...like...really?

The Klobb from Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark. Always include one in your pistols only game. An automatic weapon that shoots candy bar wrappers and cream cheese puffs? Sign me up!

Probably the Starwars Battlefront blaster pistols. They really should have a better secondary weapon.

The first thing that comes to my mind is this.

It looks stupid an impractical, sounds even worse, and is one of the most least useful weapons in the entire game. It offers low power, low accuracy, and low satisfaction. I really don't understand why such a boring and uninterestng weapon has the most iconic.

What immediately springs to mind is the Halo Reach beam sniper. It felt like it was doing absolutely nothing, even against grunts.

Those damn bees in Bioshock. I bought the game JUST TO GET THOSE and all they did was distract your enemies. Doubly annoying, as other plasmids did that as well.

My vote goes for the chemical thrower in Bioshock. I think I used it once and decided it was worthless.

Shotguns in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

It takes 1 shot to kill someone up close in real life, not 3!!!!

Hmm, I remember the ones in the second game being rather good... at least once you got the upgrade to the more advanced one with the purple lasers.

Though on the original topic... maybe the Chinese Pistol from Fallout 3? It seemed like a rather unnecessary addition other than it just being there to remind you that America had fought the Chinese before everything went to hell. It was rather under-powered compared to the 10mm Pistol which you could easily get.

My first thought. Why is the Halo AR just... so bad? it feels just like using the SMG with a lower fire rate. Totally useless.

Also, most of the automatic weapons in resident evil (5 comes to mind) are just wastes of ammo. Zombies = close range = shotgun/pistol. At range sniper is accepted.

The rod of dominion from Zelda for the wii. It was the last weapon you got in the whole entire game, you have to go through a bunch of shit to give it power, and what does it do? It allows you to take control of specific statues that are pretty much only in one specific part of the game that are primarily used to hold down door switches. Real climactic, huh?

too right, mate. i've recently been playing w@w and frankly i'm shocked that the semi-autos and bolt-actions are so underpowered. it's supposed to be a simple trade off of stopping power vs rate of fire, not a 'who can spam the smg the best'

I cannibalized a Shortstop to make this?!

Sometimes I make decisions regarding my TF2 items that I instantly regret just a few moments later. The Winger is one of them.

The Laser Pistols in Red Faction Armageddon - and from the same game, the grenade launcher that releases nanites. Ehh..

On the other hand, the majority of the weapons in that game kick so much ass I'm wearing mine as a hat.

As far as I'm concerned, all of the optional TF2 weapons fall into this category. When they were released, I swore I'd never willingly use them. I've held my promise.
I dunno the huntsman is pretty cool...

Oh man, don't remind me. It's basically meant to be a submachine gun but it's actually outclassed by most other guns at close range anyway, even the DMR. At close range. Do they even know what DMR stands for?
And don't get me stared on the alien weapons. When's the last time the MVP's most used weapon was a plasma pistol or rifle?
When's the last time you saw someone use these guns?

It's moreso the range than the power. While shotgun's do shoot quite far compared to most games, they simply aren't suited to long distance shootouts with other Stalkers who'll tear you apart with rifles in the time it takes to pump the damn thing, and many bad guys have heavy armour that shrugs off most shotty rounds anyway.

However, shotguns are excellent for mutant hunting. Next time a Bloodsucker tries to eat your face off, give him a buckshot sandwich.
