[Spunge] - "That Should Cover It"

Great little UK Ska band that surprisingly few know about, they're like Reel Big Fish, but I prefer them, and they've done an album of covers where all of em are fecking sweet :)

Kicking Pigions - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9st30qjN5BY
Centrefold Cover - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8uaFu00omU

They might not be the most unique, but I love there music and really wish I had more of it.

EDIT: Oh, and "7 Seconds of Love" are a awesome Brit band too! http://www.rathergood.com

Reel Big Fish (Ska)
How dare you sir, they are ska punk and not ska!!!! There is a huge difference between desmond Decker, Skatalites and the Supersonics than that American tripe you just mentioned.

Apocalyptica
Four cellos playing heavy metal. Must more be said?
A big YAY! for Apocalyptica, although in here we can see that, what is unique is very much subjective. Well enough of that. "Unlike anything you've heard before", you say? Atrium Carceri, atmospherically excellent stuff. Also Van Der Graaf Generator and Tangerine Dream come to mind, amongst other bands.

Streetlight manifesto. but those guys sorta came out catch 22 and are a product of thirdwave ska, so does that still count as unique? surely..

Failing that,
Mute math.
Those guys just rock. Even the song they made for twilight, but could even an awesome song save that movie? no. No it couldn't.
I love you

I guess I liked Robots in Disguise because they were a bit different.
You can't be a Mighty Boosh fan and not like them, it's against the law or something ;D

I can't think of many bands, they all sound the same to me.

I've been getting bored with the music I've been listening to as of late.
What r some of ur favorite unique bands?
Either the band themselves is unique or the music/sound is unique.
I'll start with my most recently listened to unique band....

Ten-minute shambling bass-feedback and meaningless lyrics for the win, although Aenema is a very good song.

Also: ITT people post the most obscure band they've heard of in an effort to sound cool.

My Communications teacher introduced me to the "Vitamin String Quartet" recently, of which listening to is greatly entertaining if you know the songs they're covering.

I guess I wouldn't be doing my job as guitarist/band-ho if I didn't mention my band, DAMN. Punk, with influences of ska, reggae, blues, rock 'n' roll, etc. We've been labelled Alternative Punk (without a hint of irony).

Diablo Swing Orchestra
Frank Zappa
Pure Reason Revolution
Blonde Redhead
Brian Eno
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Sort of a mixed bag of differing styles, but you'll probably find a few things you enjoy.

Or people are just posting bands/artists they feel have a unique sound. By definition, that would likely not include artists everyone and their mom are familiar with.

Well, for me, at the height of the dance music era, Bentley Rhythm Ace did it for me, by being in the middle of a genre where 'cool' was everything and making happy, fun, silly music instead. There's a genuine joy to their music sorely lacking in most dance music.

Although I've mentioned them multiple times before, Lawnmower Deth did a similar thing in the 80s, at the height of the morbid deathcore thrash scene, doing thrash metal about really stupid stuff just for fun, and their gigs were always just fun stuff, nothing depressing or angry about them.

Somehow I had a certain respect for their self awareness that 'we know we're shit, we're just gonna have fun til people get bored of us!' outlook.

Music that's unique? Here ya go:
Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punk. Like a good Ukranian Vodka that's also on fire.
Kaizers Orchestra - Norwegian Polka/Punk dirges.

Yeah it happens all the time (The "Most underground band" or "Coolest band no one has heard of" threads. I end up making up a bunch of bands)

Anyway.

Buck 65 - hip hop cross blues, country and folk (plus a bit of really weird stuff). Good stuff

Scott Walker - Jesse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYyOkQUyJZM
Martin Grech - Guiltless (sounds like Radiohead tripping on acid while listening to Nine Inch Nails from inside a fish bowl): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgxWVrLWfHc

I can quite confidently confirm the uniqueness and awesomeness of this band...
