Yarp, I'm in first year of uni and so far it's been reasonably wild. Apparently alcohol related crimes are at an all time high in my town. Not looking forward to exams coming up in just over a month... shit, a month, I should probably do some work or something...

*fucks off to study*
I'm supposed to be finishing my dissertation right now dude...

Could I ask a question?

My sister is at her first year of Uni (I'm six years younger than her) and she is going back in two weeks, then she'll have four weeks until she finishes her full year, is this the same (to have 4 weeks in your last term) for every year, there or there abouts?
Yup, sounds about right. I'm going back this weekend, then I'm all done by May 20th.
Same here, except I didn't bother going home. I live here full time now, only go home for Christmas.

Just wrapping up year three out of four in my program of Civil Engineering at Dalhousie University (NS, Canada). (Exam schedule Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday. Just finished the third.)

University has been a workload and a half, making a mockery of any work that high school ever threw at me. Carrying six credits, all with either labs or mandatory tutorial sessions (or might as well be mandatory) puts some time crunch on, and you learn a thing or thousand. Under the pressure I've made a lot of great friends, and even with the workload we find some time to get lunch-beer at a tavern. Engibeering isn't a just a word, it's a sponsored event where the beer is $2.50 each, and it's on a buy five get one free stamp card.

We work, we have fun times, and diss pretty much every other student. The only ones we have much respect for is medicine. (Law we respect the workload and practicality of your degrees, but disqualified due to future careers as lawyers. Sorry.)

I wouldn't have traded it.

Normally I'd do the same, not much point kicking around at home when I could be doing my own thing. I even work in the university over the summer, but this holiday I'm so skint that I didn't have any kind of choice (see previous comment about not getting a loan 'cos I'm repeating the year).

As if there were any other type of force that did work.
What service branch, and if you got a weapon, what was it and what are your thoughts on it?
Personally, I'm going to make the military a career, so I'm just wondering.

Well, I am going to try my damned hardest to get into the US Air Force Academy in a few years, if I want to do that I am going to have to take all kinds of classes that are college level, such as Calculus, Physics, and History, just to have a chance to get in, I also have to get to the top of my JROTC corps, so I have to keep involvement in that up and get to be the commander to make my chances worth while. On top of that I have to get in the best shape of my life, which is something since I am already in pretty good shape, so High School is going to be hell. That being said, if I get the congressional nomination, and the board of admissions accepts me, I just want to get my butterbar and be put on my way to getting wings, and I will be happy.

Weirdly I still refer to my parent's house as "home" although I have no intention of moving back to that part of the country.

Me and 2 of the guys I live with now (plus another of our mates) have sorted out a house and will hang around in Leicester for another few years. I'm looking forward to it, I think it'll be a nice balance between student life and responsible adulthood...

i.e. Having a 9 to 5 job, but still living like immature geekboys. Beer, weed, comics, Xbox and Warhammer... Woo!

In a few weeks, three years of University comes to a close for Dok Zombie.
Same for me here, third and last year wraps up beginning of June. Last exam of the tenth, after which I have a month and a half to figure out what the hell I'm going to do afterwards.

I guess my time at uni has been pretty damn tame, mainly because I've been trying not to spend too much of my parents' money. There have been epic parties with ridiculous results, but that's about it. Right now, I'm busy cramming to finish my dissertation which is due on May 4th and which I haven't written a word of yet. Gah.

In Canada the system seems to be.
College: Where you go if you barely passed highschool.
University: If you realize paying attention might benefit you... Also an extra thousand more in fees.

OT: Just finishing my first year of college and... Well where I am from its still pretty much Highschool. Which is kinda sad. We also got the "cool" kids. Otherwise known as the group of pricks in the cafeteria playing family guy on there laptop incredibly loud. Insulting people who politely asked them to turn it down, and having to have the dean come out and ask them to leave the cafeteria. The classes deemed to be the "easy a" classes are packed while the harder classes are almost empty.

My Eng 103 class had 30 students, my Psych 102 class had 29, my CSC 109 class had 6.

We are outnumbered by chairs 8 to 1....

Speaking of class i need to go study.... God damn Internets, distracting me.

Going one further from stealing a regular little temporary road sign, and stealing one of these bad boys instead.
I find this a little hard to believe...

Mainly as those signs aren't just stuck in the ground with the pole, but have a very large cement anchor on it. The size of the anchor being roughly 2.5x2.5x2.5

By all means party like a ************, but try and mix it up, there are so many people at DMU who go to the same places week in, week out, only drinking in the designated "studenty" areas.
I should be going to DMU in september provided I get my points. What are the main points of interest for a student in Leicster?

You may have messed up your wording, the US has both College and University
Oh, I wasn't sure to be honest, in movies an such they always seem to refer to what I would call University as "College".

We have college too, or "Sixth Form", but it's only two years and sometimes it's attached to your school.
In the UK, people experience the two years of Sixth Form (UK College), at the same age as Americans experience the Junior and Senior years of high school.

I'm most of the way through my 2nd year, and yeah, your lengthy description sounds about right. Except for the personal hygiene bit. Oh, and the weed.
But yeah, met some great people, tried some new things, picked up some old things again, and now busy panicking about exams...

I've been in college for 4 years, now, and all I can say is none of the partying I ever did comes close to reading Nietzche in terms of the amount of alcohol involved.

United States Army. I have been assigned a M249 (Iraq), an M16/M203 (Iraq, Fort Hood), and an M16 (Korea). I've handled everything lighter than vehicle mounts. M16 are not as bad as people say they are (If you take care of it), M4's are garbage, the M203 (underslung grenade launcher) is easier to fire than you'd think, M9s are garbage, and M249s are the most wonderful things created by man (Unless you are a left handed firer).

If you want to know more, PM me. Sorry to side swipe the thread, oh grand college masters (Joking).

Well, Colleges are the same as Universities, it's just that Universities tend me be better and more prestigious.
