maybe more than mass effect 1? for me its no question. the merely okay story of mass effect 1 did not make up for how horrifyingly bad the gameplay was. i thought mass effect 3 was the best in the series. also, not only did the ending not bother me, i found it to be one of the more satisfying endings i had experienced in a game in a long time. that might be because i didnt finish it until the extended edition had been released and by then had heard about how the ending was the worst thing in existence, so i was pretty much prepared for the worst

im curious as ive never seen this opinion before. how would you have implemented difficulty in dark souls?

I freaking love Call of Duty and I love the campaigns.

I also love Sonic the Hedgehog, no matter how bad his past games were.

-Call of Duty is not a terrible series. MW3 was a bit crap, yes, but all the others have been very enjoyable and well made.
-Far Cry 2 was a flawed masterpiece and one of the best open world FPS's I've ever played.
-Half-Life 2 is not overrated.
-Half-Life 2's vehicle sections are also quite fun and some of the best I've ever experienced in an FPS.
-Origin is not bad. Not as good as Steam and GoG, yes, but it's actually not so terrible at all.
-Duke Nukem Forever wasn't terrible and turned out better than I expected for something that went through 14 years of development hell. It was flawed, yes, but it still was a decent game in the end.
-Doom 3 was a fantastic game and actually did feel like a Doom game.
-Doom 3's flashlight also wasn't annoying at all.
-Crysis 2 was better than Crysis 1.
-Battlefield 3 is more fun to play than 2. Maybe BF2 was fantastic back in the day, but due to a bunch of annoying "24/7 *insert map here*" servers and the horrid ping of any server with a decent map rotation, it just isn't fun to play in this day and age.
-Fallout 3 and New Vegas are more enjoyable than Fallout 1 and 2.
-Casual games are not all terrible. Bejeweled and Flight Control are proof of this...
-PC are not better than consoles, nor are consoles better than PC's. They both are equally good and just are better suited to different kinds of games.
-FPS's can be fun on consoles.
-Team Fortress 2 doesn't seem to have been made worse by going F2P. It seems exactly the same as it was pre-F2P (minus all the silly updates and such, of course).

Resident Evil 6 is a good game.

I enjoyed Sonic 06 and think it's fun.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Water Temple is my favorite temple.

Suckbox 360 is garbage for anything other than the few exclusives it has.

Gears of War is not all that great.

Dead Space 2 sucks.

Skyrim... kinda. Like most of Bethesda's more recent games, I actually enjoyed it at first. But then the repetition of the combat set in. Then I realised I didn't care about any of the narrative elements at all. Then I realised I was so rich that looting was pointless. Then the dungeons all started blurring together. Then I finished making my character how I wanted him and realised that I no longer had anything to work towards. Sadly, it the boredom and pointlessness that I remember rather than the fun that preceded it. It sure did have some lovely environments though.
This gentleman's thoughts on Skyrim mirror my own. So I'm gonna be lazy and copy/pasta instead of typing all that up.

The thread is called unpopular opinions. That opinion is as common as unpopular opinions threads.

Mass Effect 3 was my favourite.
Diablo 3 is the best ARPG out there.
All PvP is terrible.
Starcraft 2 is not only better than Starcraft 1, but it has more content.
Every console before the Playstation 1 and Nintendo 64 is bad and should feel bad.

If you discount the quickening [limit break system] FFXII is one of the best games in the series, only bettered by IX and VIII.

I always catch flak for declaring my love for VIII but it was my introduction to the series and the junction system was pretty cool once you figured out how to properly break it. :)

Deus Ex has substantially overrated rpg elements/gameplay. Have fun, fanboys.

Unpopular? Let's see.
Dragon Age: Origins is nothing exceptional. DA2 is a joke.
Mass Effect 2 is best game in the series.
Witcher 2 and Mass Effect 2 are best RPGs that came out in last years.
Skyrim while good is shallow as a puddle.
Responses in order:
Agree mostly, but DAO is good.
That's debatable to Hell and back, but it certainly started a really fucking bad trend/idea.
Haven't played Witcher, ME2 is a gorram resource management game without the different-feeling builds.
Agree, but I'd rate it as mediocre, heavily modded it's good.

There's nothing that wrong with the series (although I cannot stand the core gunplay), just the trend it started.
The biggest problem with TF2 going free, and this is purely objective, is that over the entire summer I was away working and had no access to my computer, so when I come back, not only am I out of shape, but the entire playerbase I knew how to play against was gone, so I had to re-learn how to play against a bunch of f2pnoobs, but I still had some of the habits you earn when facing reasonable people. I don't blame Valve, I just closed the game, waded into the thick of my Steam backlog, and never looked back.

I really like The Old Republic, in fact it's probably one of my favorite games ever.

Basically, the problem I had with the difficulty was that it emphasized the repetition of a chain of tedious tasks. For the most part the bosses were fun and challenging, but if you died you'd have to go back to the last campfire and fight your way through a bunch of enemies just to get back to the boss. For me this just ended up getting repetitive and seemed like an unnecessary waste of time.

Personally, I would have preferred to be able to respawn closer to the boss and maybe have the difficulty increased to compensate. Though, to be honest, I don't think I'd want them to change it. There are plenty of games that do it that way already, and the way Dark Souls does it is kind of what makes it Dark Souls. Plus, most people seem to like it the way it is.

Mass Effect 3 is a great game inspite of the ending.

EA and Bioware are not evil, or at least no more evil than any other developer, get over yourselfs.

Don't worry I'll be right there with ya being shot.

Seriously though Mass Effect 3 was good up until the last bit.

I think woman at conventions should not dress as some video game charters.
Not because of some fake gammer girl outrage(tbh I have no idea where that came from and why it was ever put forward as "the man issue") but because it puts forward a negative stereotype about gaming and is not conductive to a family atmosphere

Mind you the same thing goes for guys it just seems to be more common place for the upper parts of woman costumes to consist of nothing but a bra while I don't see to many men walking around dressed up as Heihachi while sporting his man thong from tekken 4. I am also not saying cosplay should be stopped in general. Just if it would get you arrested for public indecency out on the streets it should not be on the convention floor as well.

-The new DMC is actually really good game. (Although as a Devil May Cry game it is absolute garbage story, character, and gameplay wise)
-Resident Evil 6 was fun.
-Making Dark Souls 2 more accessible/broader I agree with. (What I mean is the gameplay mechanics and tutorials to be made more accessible, if the story is shoved in my face and an easy mode is added, the Soul series will become dead to me)
-COD is good. Same ol, but good on its merits.
-Fallout 3>New Vegas. The sense of exploration and discovery was far more engaging then New Vegas' good story.
-Skyrim is fun, but is designed veeeeery poorly.
-Duke Nukem felt jokingly bad, I don't consider it the worst thing ever made.
-Capcom is worse then EA.

I thought that the 2008 Alone in the Dark game was actually pretty good.
There were a lot of bugs, and I despise Sarah with a passion, but it definitely had it's moments, as well as it's share of interesting ideas. And the fire physics were badass.

And I absolutely love Duke Nukem as a character (and was NOT raised on Duke 3D, so the 'nostalgia bias' argument is moot in my case)
[sub]I'm not exactly sure if that's an unpopular opinion or not, though.[/sub]

Have you played Demons Souls? Because the system in which they increase the difficulty upon death was implemented in that game. And the checkpoint system, while not the way you'd like it, is actually much better then Dark's bonfires.

I thought Portal 2 was, overall, better than the first one. Sure, some of the puzzles in the first one might have been more challenging (and I say that as a good thing), but I felt that Portal 2 was a more polished, more well rounded game that was able to deliver a wider variety of experiences.

I also despise Mass Effect, although not for quite the same reasons as SanAndreasSmoke. I found the gameplay to be mediocre at best, and pure and utter shit at worst. This wasn't helped by the absolutely atrocious interface that made inventory management a complete chore. And most of the sidequests I did ended up feeling exactly the goddamn same. Now, none of this would have made me hate the game as much as I do if it weren't for the fact that I found the story utterly forgettable. The dialogue wasn't very engaging, the characters weren't interesting, and there was nothing unique or surprising that happened throughout the game. Maybe the game would have been better as a different class, or playing renegade instead of paragon, and maybe the sequels are vastly improved, but honestly, I've long since stopped caring.
ME 1 definitely felt like a massive chore. HATED the inventory system. I actually liked what ME 2 brought to the table, you get certain weapons that fill a particular niche and can be modified with certain parts.

The thing that probably puts me in a minority is my dislike of FF9 and my love for FF8 and FFX. 8 is special to me since I was in fourth grade when I first played it and it was the first Final Fantasy and RPG I had ever played in my entire life. I liked the story, characters and gameplay and so on and I still do. In fact, my fascination for myths, legends and pop culture stems from all the references that FF8 makes to those three things (before the internet I used to look up this MASSIVE webster's dictionary we had for words like Shiva, Odin, and that's when I began reading books with a passion).

I like X cuz the main hero is an upbeat guy who ends up saving the girl by killing the very thing that makes it possible for him to exist. Also, it was the first time where I encountered a sort of reverse twist on the plot of Alice in Wonderland. You have this audience surrogate guy who gets dragged into another world thinking it's all a dream and shit when in fact its the other way around. IMO I liked the original ending before X-2 where Tidus dissappeared into nothingness. It was quite tragic.

Never liked IX for a large variety of reasons. One,the only sidequests that felt great for me was the chocobo breeding. Two, I hated the chibi characters, I think they all look like shit main characters or other wise to date I think Kuja is the embodiment of everything I don't want an FF villain to be, and I hated Zidane's guts (no idea exactly why he just pisses me off) and while I'm on the subject of characters the only two I found compelling and cool looking were Vivi and Freya.

Last, Limbo. Don't get me wrong its a great game and it was quite a refreshing experience to play a game like it. The atmosphere was great as well, but I feel that I'm not enjoying it as much as most gamers out there.

Skyrim is the best Elder Scrolls game and is better than Morrowind in every way possible, from world design, to combat, to lore, everything. I played Morrowind, and was bored to absolute tears, the only thing I like about the game was the rather odd aesthetics that gave the game a sort of ethereal feel, which I wish more games did...but besides that I cannot in good conscience say that I understand fans fervor over Morrowind.

Half Life 2 is nothing special. This may be because I didn't play it upon release and I didn't get a chance to see what all the praise was about until much later, but I was rather disappointed. It was just a regular old shooter...story was kind of interesting but it didn't hold my attention.

Dark Souls in how it presents it's story is perfect the way it is and should not change in it's sequels. I know this opinion in unpopular cause I see tons of people complain about it. The story is presented through item descriptions and character dialogue, leaving the player..you...to fill in the gaps making the game somewhat of a mystery game, depending on how you play it. The sense of discovery lends itself well to the overall design, as it adds to that rewarding feeling when you either beat a boss or realizing the vague connection from one part of the story to another.

Bioshock is the best FPS game ever made and was so much better than System Shock. I played both, and found Bioshock's narrative substantially better, but it's gameplay and atmosphere was far superior to that of anything System Shock had to offer.

Diablo II was a terrible, repetitive, and ultimately boring game. Diablo III was much better, everything felt smoother and more natural in the grand scheme of things.

Errr...that's all I can think of for now.
