None of those are particularly unpopular, Saint Diesel-. I'm afraid we cannot burn you on the stake for this.

No, try this one on for size; The gaming community largely deserve the image it gets. Arf arf!

Edit: Mostly kidding, only very specific people deserve that image. Just for clarity.

(Oh, and Duty sucks, Freedom rules! The Zone is for everyone!)

The first Portal game wasn't very good. Sure, the atmosphere and tone was all there, but once you got to a certain point the variety in the puzzles vanished and you were just doing variations of the same thing. Portal 2 is great, though. Portal 1 sucks.

The driving in GTA IV is great and it is a better game in almost every way than GTA V.

The Escapist forums were a much better place in 2008-2009. Nowadays it's just a loud echo chamber with the same four topics beings posted again and again.

What?

Apple hardware and software fills a viable niche of the market. If it didn't it wouldn't exist and certainly not be as successful as it has been.

The Jurassic Park movies suck. The only reason the morals work is the people on the "wrong" side of the fence are complete and utter morons. Building off of this, Peter Ludlow is a better and smarter man than John Hammond.

The recent Marvel movies are only average. Yes, this includes Guardians of the Galaxy.

There's nothing really wrong with the Amazing Spiderman series.

The Toby Maguire Spiderman movies aren't as good as you remember them to be.

You know how people call Call of Duty 'online daycare'? League of Legends is the daycare where you drop off your teenager because he decided he's to cool to go to the COD daycare with his little brother.

Wow, I see a lot of this dude these days. Destruction and pain usually follows but anyhow. OT, what's a cool bad boy opinion that will make people stand back and say "wow I bet this guy is a tormented lost soul who wears a leather jacket and isn't tied down by laws or convention"?

Deus Ex bored me after 3 missions. I don't see the big deal.
Alan Wake has the most fascinating story of any game.
I enjoyed the entire Modern Warfare storyline (1 to 3), and it was the main reason I bought the game. Multiplayer was never a big draw. I'll grant that Ghosts' campaign is absolutely awful in every way.
I didn't enjoy playing Portal. The whole Puzzle thing bored me to death. However what I loved was the atmosphere, setting, characters and of course, the soundtrack. Robots FTW and Reconstructing Science in particular are outstanding.
I enjoyed Prometheus. Ok it sort of shat on the franchise, but as a standalone, and as a spectacle, I really enjoyed it and would watch it again.
I really like the first 2 Transformer films. I've rewatched the first one about 10 times. From then on, yeah not so good.
Halo 3 was the best in the series. (I think that's unpopular, right?)
And finally, I hate to be this guy, because I really like this place, but of late these forums are devolving into threads full of overly toxic pedantic arguments which focus on the issues surrounding games far more than the games themselves. Acceptable to an extent during a real gaming dry spell, but it's made these forums a depressing place to visit. Whenever I try to educate myself on the latest "Industry issue", the negativity just makes me 'ragequit' (Probably not an unpopular opinion actually for most people, but that vocal minority sure is vocal).

Most people, even people who love it, agree that it takes ages to actually get any good.

OT: Half-Life 2 was never a good game, only a good engine.
Majora's Mask was vastly superior to Ocarina of Time.
Gamecube had the best controller (though none have been near perfect yet).
Saints Row 3 was a great game, as was IV.
Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and basically every other film Marvel has released based on their own property are average at best, with the possible exception of X-Men: First Class.

Okay. Here goes.

I THOUGHT THAT DRAGON AGE II WAS A GOOD GAME

I played through Dragon Age: Origins, but the gameplay felt stale and boring, especially with the difficulty curve and one class (Mage) being essentially better than the others. I know DAII had less choices than Origins, but for me, it's the gameplay that mattered (though the repeated environments were crap). But I understand why everyone else disagreed.

Another thing, I thought Skyrim was average at best. This time, I really don't understand why so many people like it. Sure, it had a lot of content, but most of it is boring. Either get a helmet from some dungeon, or go to a random person to do a random task (hated the Radiant Quests).

That was made by Fox, not Marvel. I mean, it's a Marvel property, but Marvel don't own the movie rights to the franchise, Fox does.

Also, Saint's Row 4 was THE BEST game in that series :D

Bioshock Infinite was a complete diaster and doesn't deserve anywhere near the fame and prestige it got considering how atrocious it turned out to be.
I mainly play mini-sentry when I play Engineer, and I'm really good at it. I'll be really pissed if Valve nerfs the mini in any way
I have no respect for game reviewers and almost none for journalists.
GTA4 is a complete bore, along with Dishonored.
Occasionally I go into some games with the intent of being annoying to piss people off for laughs and find no issue with people doing so if they're actually clever and funny about it.
Telltale has been really dropping the ball with a lot of their work recently, to the point where I'm considering not purchasing their games anymore unless they start doing a better job.
I think Skyrim is totally uninteresting without mods. And I don't just mean mods that better the gameplay, leveling, etc., I mean those mods.

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are others but I'm too hungry to think of them right now.

This is fun!

Tolkein is a horrible writer. He might have been revolutionary for his time but none of his book stand up today.
Star Wars is incredibly boring and the acting is awful (probably revolutionary for its time blah blah blah).
If I had to choose, Digimon was WAY better than Pokemon though I am no longer following either.
Diddy Kong Racing was better than Mario Kart on the N64.
The best Megaman series was Battle Network.
The best Pokemon game was Pokemon Snap.
The Gamecube was an absolutely amazing system and is totally underrated.
Final Fantasy, all of them except the first two which I played on the re-release and were properly turn based, are annoying to play and are therefore not fun.
I'm a huge fan of walking simulators like Dear Esther.
Fallout 3 was way better than New Vegas, and Elder Scrolls Oblivion was way better than Skyrim.

Unpopular opinions?
Okay...

Subscription model mmo games aren't all that bad.

I look forward to some games that adopted the ea 'madden model' yearly game release.

I liked endless space and it's card based combat system.

I wish the x-com third person remake was given a fair chance, I liked the idea of a 'birth of x-com' story.

It should be possible to have a thread like this without people sniping over other issues from other threads.

Yhatzee should still wear the hat.

I fucking love halo. Both the story mode and Halo Reach's firefight, which lets me make myself invincible with infinite ammo and star with a rocket launcher. Genocide is so fun in halo reach.

I like COD. It provides a good opportunity to shoot dudes and not feel bad about it. And it always makes you out to be a combination of james bond and private ryan. I only have COD 4, the other games I have only played as demos.

I like racing games. I don't think they're boring even though I also like the crazy arcade ones too.

My favorite genre is vertical scrolling shoot em ups.

I think art games are just filled with a bunch of random symbolism somebody got from throwing darts at a board and the only purpose to that symbolism is to make people read deep into it, thus it can be interpreted, thus it is deep somehow. I don't know, I found the stanley parable to be ten thousand times deeper than any art game ever and that game is a deconstruction of the entire genre.

Saints Row the third and IV are two of the best sandbox games of all time.

Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls are nothing more than fancy DVD menus marketed as games so that the lower writing standards can give david cage's horrible plots a pass. Seriously, take the quicktime events out of his games and they probably wouldn't even be games anymore.

I like sports sims. Especially NFL ones. I would say football but somebody would probably be up my ass about not calling it handegg or some shit.

Saints Row (esp. SR4) > GTA any day of the week
Fallout 3 > New Vegas
Beer is revolting
Anime sucks
Star Wars isn't that great
Sci-fi is almost universally boring

As far as media goes my only unpopular opinions are that Halo 3 was dope as hell and Sucker Punch is Zach Snyder's best movie.

Otherwise, most unpopular opinion I hold is likey my advocation of the forceful overthrow of all preexisting conditions followed by the establishment of a dictatorship of the proletariat. Unless public opinion has changed pretty drastically from when I last checked up that's definitely my most unpopular opinion.

I don't know if it will be unpopular on the escapist but it would certainly be an unpopular opinion where I live, or at the least it is an unpopular one among my friends: Country music SUCKS! Country music is an oxymoron. Roger was 100% absolutely right in that one episode American Dad: country music comes from the @$$, right from the dead center of the arse! There is one, count it one country song I like. The clothes don't make the man.

While there are a few exceptions, can't spell crap without rap.

Carrie Underwood is awful! she is a talentless hack who is only famous because guys think she is hot. I kid you not last year while I was working for the city of Green River I changed the radio station from her god-awful crap to a station that was playing Nirvana. my co-worker at the time - "But they're a bunch of dudes." me - "so what, the music is way, way better!" co-worker - "but she's hot!" Ugh. . .
Don't even get me started on Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, etc or any of these pop "artists" (and I use that term in the loosest definition humanly possible!)

Lately anyways, Dreamworks has been better than Pixar! How's that for an out there opinion!

Outside of the KOTOR games, Battlefront, and the Jedi Knight series ( I have Jedi Academy, have not played Jedi Outcast, though I would like to), I don't care about Star Wars really.

I love the original x-box's original controller. The big one. I think it was nicknamed "the spaceship." One of my friends said about it, and I qoute: "It belongs as the showpiece in the museum of technological failures."

Don't care for any anime at all.

I'll have a go.

-Whiskey fucking sucks.
-Corn is the most efficient way of ruining food.
-Mass Effect's 3 ending wasn't that dissapointing.
-Gears of War should have ended in 1.
-Crysis 2 is good.
-A song being dubstep doesn't make it automatically bad.
-Halo is boring and bland.
-The new Looney Tunes cartoon is pretty good.
-Sucker Punch isn't a bad movie.

Hmm, Fallout 1 and 2 are more interesting than 3 and New Vegas? Not really an unpopular opinion though, I guess. While it would be in the minority compared to people who loved the Bethesda title, it's certainly not an uncommon opinion among PC gamers, so I'm not sure if that is really warranted.

Risen 1 and Risen 3: Titan Lords are both really good games (with the first probably being the best Piranha Bytes has ever done). Unlike Gothic, the Risen trilogy has been hammered to hell by reviewers and their fanbases, and while I do think Risen 2: Dark Waters was a let down, I heavily enjoyed the other two games in the series (though Risen 3 is in need of a difficulty patch. It's way too easy right now).

Dark Souls, while good games and ones I enjoyed, aren't quite the masterpieces people make them out to be. I should never be caught saying that by the more passionate fans of the franchise though, else I be roasted alive by the power of incandescent sunlight.

That's about all I can think of. I would mention Bethesda, and how I think their games are big and impressive for the first handful of hours but quickly you see it's as deep as a waffle, but that again isn't really an unpopular opinion and is shared by many.

Well, these things always end well...might as well help speed up the rage!

I think Empire Strikes Back is the most overrated film of all time, and its legion of worshiping fans lack the mental maturity to just let go of the fact that they didn't like the prequel trilogy and that ESB is not a flawless movie.

Following that, I think Star Wars is an IP that has always been better suited to video games than film.

I think that the majority of cartoons of the 80's, especially Transformers G1, TMNT, and G.I. Joe, are examples of everything that was ever wrong with the American animation industry, and too many of their fans are nostalgia-blind man-children.

I think that Batman the Animated Series certainly deserves a lot of praise for its accomplishments, but I think its nowhere as good as retrospective fans have made it out to be. For every truly great episode, there was one truly mediocre and utterly forgettable one. Justice League/Unlimited is the best WB superhero cartoon.

On that note, I think Batman Forever was the best of the 'original four' Batman movies.

I think a lot of motion controlled Wii games are fairly easy and intuitive to use, and I can't see how people tend to get so angry over them.

I don't think practical effects are any better, and certainly not more 'charming', than CGI simply by virtue of being 'real'. A great deal of work goes into making nearly any complex effects shot look decent, and just because you can see the seams of CG doesn't mean the seams of puppetry or suits are any less noticeable.
