Well, if they are unskippible, it should atleast benefit you somehow. Interactive or entertaining credits are fine, or afterwards there better be something that makes you go "It was worth the wait"
Achievements however should not wait until the end. (I beat FEAR last night because I want to get FEAR 2 and had to wait for the credits to end before my achievements were given)
I dont think a single line of audio though is one of em unless it is something really revealing, and no GoW2's is not among that. Ofcourse, if they are unskippable and offer not a thing, then shame on them.

I'm confused is the off button on your console not working. Just turn of your council and turn it back on. Or are you using a PC. Its the end of the game in most cases and there is not a lot else to do with the game. Common they put a lot of work into this game and all they ask is for you to buy it and memories their names.

Actually, I liked KUF:CoD's way of dealing with credits. Watching all 3 versions gives you alot of achievement points, waiting gives you an interesing ending for each character, and they are optional. Hard mode credits comes with pictures of the team.

With most games you can't save until AFTER the credits, thus rendering your progress to that point moot. So you CAN turn it off, but kiss new game+ or whatever bonuses you get good bye.

I shouldn't be under any obligation to watch the credits, especially in a medium that has no good reason for including credits at all. I do watch the credits, but I do so in the hopes that there will be something interesting going on (the soldier wandering around the top of the screen in Call of Duty) or that they will be short (any Valve game).

Interestingly, Far Cry was probably the most excruciating credit sequence I've ever sat through. I can't remember whether it was skippable or not, but I'm sure I must have tried to, so it must not have been. I watched the developer credits (the only credits I'm really willing to watch, because in a way I kind of do want to give the devs their props), and then it had the publisher credits (which is considerably less excusable), and then it had the voice acting credits... for every single translation of the game. Why the hell would anyone want to know who played the bad guy with the cowboy hat in the Danish localization?

There are a lot of games like this.

I just get the achievement(for a 360 game) and click it off and continue on my merry way.

As my own personal rule I always sit through the credits after finishing my first playthrough, just to see if they added little easter egg's in the credits or extra cut scenes after the credits, or in the case of fable 1 , if you skip the credits you couldn't continue on messing around in Albion and they make you suffer through the final boss fight again so you can then sit through the credits and not skip them.

If they don't offer anything during or after the credits I'll still let them roll, unless if it's after my first playthrough then I'll just skip it, but I'll either change the channel on my tv since I use RCA connections, or use my computer for a bit until they are over.

As much as I loved MGS2 and MGS3, I really wanted to skip the credits. The most you could do was make it faster by like one cm a second.
However there is something at the very end of them....
On topic. I really do hate boring unskippable credits but entertaining ones are not so bad.

These people worked INCREDIBLY hard on their game. If they feel that their names need to be put out there when the game is beaten, then it's well within their right to do so. Go get something to drink or a snack or something if you really don't want to sit through it. And if you can't stand waiting 5 or 6 minutes without playing a video game, then you have a problem.

Sorry if I'm seeming rude here, but seriously. It's not a long time to wait.
QFT. As a rule of thumb, whenever I start a game I always allow watch the names of the companies and publishers as they play their individual cinematics the first time.

In my opinion all credits should be unskippable. Just to pay some respect to the people who put a lot of work hours into making the game.

Why the hell do developers do this?!?

I just finished Far Cry 2's campaign and I was hoping to try the multiplayer but get this: you can't skip the frickin' credits! I have to sit there and read through the names of people I honestly don't care about while listening to music I don't really like. There are solutions, like turn on your own music or maybe do something else while you wait... but I figure: since they make me watch it, it can't be that long.

Oh how I'm wrong. And oh how it makes me angry. I had positive thoughts for Far Cry 2 and now I'm left pretty angry about it. Shouldn't they want gamers to walk away thinking about how they liked the game rather than angry at credits?

I would seriously like to know what goes in developer's minds when they make their credits skip-proof. Are they just so arrogant that they MUST have people read their name and function?

Personally, I think this kind of thing is unacceptable... what do you think?
i just want to add to your post. Some thing i truly hate is credits that you cant skip but must wait till they are over to save the game completion file. So if you don't sit there and watch them you need to restart from your last save

If I can't skip the credits and you want me to stick around at least make it worth my while. Rise of the Triad had some hilarious stuff in the credits.

Yeah um I mean saying thanks in a way that doesn't involve monitory value.
It's like giving compliments to the chef after a good meal.
This is more like the chef is coming out the kitchen and forcing the compliment out of you. Sure, the chef deserves it but there's no sincerity to that.

It isn't good NOT to pay homage to the developers, but it's worse for them to force you to.

Why does it annoy you? If you don't want to watch fine. If they chose to make them unskippable that's their choice. Movie credits are "unskippable" but most leave the theatre why should a game be any different? Many games put effort into it making them interactive which is great! But if they want to go down the traditional route that's fine.

I bet you wouldn't have that same approach to your doctor? Or The postman, delivery guy, or check-out chick? Just because you've paid for the service doesn't mean you have the right not to dismiss them and treat them like a product.
Alright, maybe this is a repeat post but I used the search and nothing came up. This is a bit, though. I'm arguing about unskippable credits in general and the other thread was on achievements for unskippable credits.

Moving on... A video game is a product. Yeah, people worked on it but so did the guys who made my toilet paper and you don't see credits on that.

I used this argument before: developers deserve credit for their work but they shouldn't force it out of us. They end up hurting themselves more by forcing it.

For everyone who thinks that we should -have- to sit through credits consider the following:

Let's say you've just finished enjoying a delicious piece of cake.

Now let's say that upon completion of said piece of cake someone comes in and forces you to sit there while you are introduced to everyone who helped in the creation of that delicious cake. The bakers who baked it, the truck drivers who moved the ingredients, the people who refined the raw materials into usable ingredients, the truck drivers who moved the raw ingredients, the people who produced the raw materials, the people who run the store where the rancher gets his feed for cattle to produce the milk, the people who wrote the music that everyone listens to while working on this project, the DJs who played such music on the radio for everyone to listen too.

Would you put up with this? No?

What about if it was done every time you enjoyed some cake? Would you like it anymore then?

That's our point, you wouldn't. Credits are supposed to be optional for a reason, and -most- [not all mind you, but most] good games know this. Honestly when I have pointless, unskippable credits that don't net achievement points, last for over twenty minutes, or even offer say, interesting concept art in the backgrounds or on the sides, and over all serve as a barrier and me saving my completed game file. Then no. No I do not want your credits, and because of their poor execution I actually mentally lower the position in my mind of how awesome a game really was. It can make a great game just good, a good game mediocre, and a mediocre game just scream that it needs to be taken out back and shot.

Why, might you ask? Because it's pretentious, inconsiderate of designers, and assumes that every single person wants to see the entire credits everytime we beat a game. If the credits are well executed, or in the very least, not just boring white text on black backround AND the game was really good, then I do sit through the credits. But that is the only time I do so because -I- want too. And that's the way it should be. The player should watch the credits because they want too. After all, it's a game, and games should be enjoyable for the people playing them.

In some games I don't like it if they don't let you skip the credits(mainly because there is bad music) but in other games like the MGS games I always watch the credits. The songs are very good (with 2 being the best) and there is always something after the credits (an important phone talk or the name of a character you haven't seen until now).

Gears of War 2 does this, and the credits last for a good 20 minutes. I just quit the game so I didn't have to sit through them.

I really dislike unskippable credits. It's ok if you can save before them I guess, but still a pain.

The ones that always annoyed me most were after defeating the Pokemon league...
