Why am I obligated to sit through a 20+ minute long dull-as-kidney-pie crawl of white text on a black backround after playing through the game? Surely buying the game and giving the developers the money to put some food in their mouth is enough? No? Well screw you then, I'll just go and eat a muffin while the dull-as-kidney-pie credits roll... Oh? You have a fun little mini game/concept art/gag reel? Oh well screw the muffin then! Let's watch us some credits!

Credits should not be skippable. In fact, people should be forced to actually read them. The people in those credits took the time to create a game that you obviously liked enough to finish, so you should take the time to find out who made that game possible.
In the same regards you should be forced to sit through the credits for everything every time you use them. The people who made the products you buy to brush your teeth, your food every time you eat, your clothes every time you put them on, your bed every time you go to sleep. Then lets see what you think about credits. FORCING people to do things they have no interest in, especially every single time they beat the game, RUINS the experience. Would you enjoy being kicked in the shins whenever you sat down to eat a piece of delicious cake? No you say? Then why make people do something they don't want to do. They'd more likely stop playing the game if they knew they HAD to sit through the credits.

All credits should be able to be skipped. Same goes for all cutscenes.

why dont you just go to the dashboard (if your playing on xbox 360. if your on ps3 then sry cant help ya)
Nice idea, but if you're waiting to save your game AFTER the credits, then you're stuffed.

I've worked in the games industry for a few years now, and I'm on the side of letting the credits roll. Yeah, we're "boring you" (whatever) with a list of names that you're not playing through, but come on. We all worked really hard on this project - we put in months and years of work, countless man-hours, meetings, overtime, tailoring things to make a great experience for you, the gamer, and it feels good at the end to say "I did this" and watch your name roll by. A little recognition never hurt, and a lot of people worked hard to bring you that game you obviously enjoyed enough to play through the end, so at least give us our moment. If its that much of a problem, set the controller down and pick up a book or something, but please stop complaining that they're boring and you shouldn't have to care.

Good credit sequences:

Little Big Planet: For anyone who hasn't played LBP, the credits are the first level, and the staff is so small that each member is shown with their picture. It's playable and you manuever Sackboy over, around, and under them in true LBP style.

Super Smash Brothers series: Each game had a fun little coin shooter challenge at the end of each playthrough, and considering how many times you would complete the main challenge, it was well received.

Bad credit sequences:

(in recent memory)
Prince of Persia, Folklore, Call of Duty 4: Each had either a black background (CoD4) or had a static background (PoP, Folk). The credits scrolled and you sat there waiting for the end to come. Ho hum. Why can't there be some filler or something for the end credits? And I don't mean "unironic" rapping or JRock bands, I mean something visual to tide us over while we wait.

And of course, the big daddy of boring credit sequences: Metal Gear Solid 4.
It's somewhat appropriate that the game with the largest cutscene-togameplay ratio ever would have an equally long credit sequence. It may have come to no surprise but that didn't make it any less boring. I would ask if anyone knows how long it lasts, but that would amount to suggesting you torture yourself.

And is it me, or do credit sequences seem to get longer the deeper we get into "new-generation" games?

Well they put a combined amount of thousands of man hours into a game the least you could do is respect the work they did.
And I did... with $60.
Yeah um I mean saying thanks in a way that doesn't involve monitory value.
It's like giving compliments to the chef after a good meal.
Right. So emailing the company telling them how much you enjoyed the game would be saying thanks. Watching the credits would be if the waiter came up shoved the menu in your face again and said THIS IS THE MAN WHO MADE YOU PORK CHOPS.
So what are they asking too much for you to view the credits?
It's easier than emailing the company telling them how much you enjoyed the game.
They were trying to do something for the people who would like to show respect but hell, respect? whats that?

Here is some names you won't know but I want you to watch them anyway. White letters on black background isn't enough for anyone to sit through credits and read "ASSISTANT TO ACCOUNTANT: STUART WORKLASON". I very much doubt that the people who made the game sit through the credits of every movie they watch and when they play games go out of there way to not skip the credits.

None skippable credits are just annoying.

For everyone using food analogies to make their point, the chef didn't spend 3 years working on your pork chops. The baker more than likely didn't work weekends to bake you that cake.

Unskippable credits are really annoying; at least Assassins Creed gave you an achievement for watching them.

And Flower's credits were presented as an extra level, where each flower blomed had a name attached.
This is similar to LBP's credits which were in the beginning of the game and played as a level. It was a great idea and I'd like to see developers use it more.
