I must admit, the first few hours are very confusing, and they never properly explain the terms to you (what the hell is a l'Cie?), or they wait forever to do so. Still enjoyed the game though.

Well a l'Cie is someone who is given a mission by fal'Cie (essentially Gods). They get special powers from the fal'Cie and if they fulfill their mission, they become crystal. They they don't they become Cie'th, which are basically zombies.

Still, at this point of the game, you don't know what the hell they are.

Wow, y'know I was considering buying this. Now, having seen this, I would be embarassed to have it running on my T.V.

Wow after seeing the opening cutscene with the highest production values ina ny game ever you decide against the purchase...to quote a battle droid; does not compute.

High production values does NOT a good game make. Can you honestly say that cutscene made ANY sense? It explained nothing. Maybe most of that stuff is explained in the following scene, I dunno, but other than "looking pretty" it really failed to make me want the game.

OT: Never played FF13, never really planed on it, and I think I'm gonna stick with that plan. well, OKAY, maybe one day when it's down to $20 I'll buy it just so I can say I tried it, but it really doesn't look like my thing.

What's a faicie?
What's an icie?
Who's the blond douche in the trenchcoat?
Who's the black guy?
Who are the people in hoods?
What's the Purge?
Why did the Giant thing turn a lake into crystal?
What do the fourteen year old's have to do with anything?
What the fucking hell is going on?

Cocoon is the city in the sky, that sits above Gran Pulse.
Falcie are god like entities that watch over the people of Cocoon (Sanctum Falcie) as well as people of Gran Pulse (Pulse Falcie)
L'cie are people chosen to carry out orders that are given by Pulse Falcie... the Pulse and Sanctum are enemies.

People who are on their way to Gran Pulse because they are accused of being L'cie
It is the immigration of people who may have been in contact with L'cie
Because it carried out its focus
They're part of operation NORA led by Snow
It's a crazy game.

I miss FFXII, sure Vaan was the least lovable douchebag in history, but at least the RPG wasn't LINEAR

I never said the cutscene made the game great, I meant that the cutscene is visually incredible and would make me want to play the game rather than not. And yes the cutscene explained nothing. So? It's an opening designed to get you straight into the thick of the action and the backstory is explained shortly afterwards, perhaps you should read my comment properly and play the game before you bash them.

That, was one of the funnest Unskipables I have seen. And Iv seen a few in my time. I loved "Take for example this giant airplane robo-scorpion".

One of things I thought was funny was coupling this with Yahtzee's ZP review of this, and knowing from having had a room-mate play the game that the bad-ass warrior chick you watched decimating an entire legion of troopers in this cutscene routinely finds herself in need of Hope's help in the actual combat.

I was worried this episode of unskippable would be 80 hours long. I was pleasantly surprised.
