UNSS Nyx

The Nyx floated through the abyss the Alcubierre metric sending it skipping across the cosmos, short bursts of warp travel, followed by a relative eternity of cool-down, the flight computers whirring and sparking, the only sounds as the ships power was converted to the vital systems, personal quarters locked, the burning smell of adrenalin almost sulphurous in the air, filling the E.V.A suits as the collected team suited up- the final warp fired, a jolt of fear, realization
that the Nyx was now in low orbit, alone, and in Extraterrestrial space...


Welcome crew of the UNSS nyx to the first mission you will face against the Extraterrestrial forces-

please note there are some ground rules that need to be observed:

1. No Godmode I.e no going "then with uber-pro skills he killed the ET commander ina single blow, because he was that skilled at ninja-powered head-shots"

2. No describing the ET forces directly, no adjectives may used, at all. This is because it allows the ET forces to remain an enigma, feel free to imagine Of Course.

3. No mindless violence, this is a RP not an FPS, describing in horrible detail big fight-scenes is redundant, as we don't have a combat system.

Repzik Grabbed the bulkiest Combat gear he could get his grubby paws on, it was extremely heavy but the protection offered by the thick body armour that covered his limbs and chest made up for his lack of mobility, it was tricky getting it on him, His bionic metal arm refused to go through the Arm Hole of the Body armour, after a few minutes of grunting and sounds of great displeasure and not just a few Dinikkin Curses,Repzik reached for his weaponry.

He reached for weapon of choice, a rusty, old, dented AA-12, his pride and joy, Covered in winter colored camoflague, not much good on a ship, but a reminder of his old days on Dinikkin, He picked up several Drum magazines and several grenades, he thought of collecting some C-4 but thought against it. let the others carry the explosives, ill probably be first through the breaches anyway before leaving the armoury he grabbed a small KM2000 Combat knife, he just loved its Tanto-styled design, and sheefed it into a small scabbard on his arm, he declined putting on his helmet, he was going to get some hot chow first.

He motioned towards the door "If anyone wants join me in having a last meal, dont hesistate to join" with that he left laughing in his harsh, Slavic tone before leaving for the mess hall

Laika stepped out of the suiting chamber. She never felt comfortable having the machine suit her. She always felt the AI was judging her.She examined her suit. It was bulkier suit, but it was stronger and it had timers for the explosives and BPDS (blast point detection system) and on the HUD. Laika nodded to the engineer who was in the armory with him. "What's your story kid?"Hoping to make some small talk. If she was going to get shot at with this guy, she may as well be friendly with him.

they'll pay for this. they should learn not to kill a Mathews. Jaime loaded the assault rifle and went to get her armor. while not as big as the Drop Trooper's, a marine's armor was still top of the line. stealth systems, plasma shields, even a storage device that stores entire boxes of ammo. Jaime wasn't intending on letting even one of those bullets go to waste. "Commander, I think I should lead the squad. I had a sister down there, and I know that place inside out. I was on security there for a year before being transferred back to earth to await this mission. I understand why you would want to lead, but I know the area well." please say yes. I need to get revenge on those freaks.

While Sol was modding his MP, the girl in the armory began talking to him. Remaining focused on his work, he decided to be friendly, seeing as how this person was carrying the explosives.

"Well, not much of a story. Grew up on Earth. Joined up when I was 18. Always been in the right place during attacks, I guess. Got promoted early, and now here I am. What about you?"

 

[Rawker]

"I joined right out of high school too, worked my way up to a special operations force. It was a killer gig until that incident in the Augustine uranium fields. There was a big cover up on the explosion and I took the fall. this is my first time back doing something other than paperwork." She stared down at her gun for a bit, and quickly changed the subject. "Well what's done is done. So you think you can comandeer one of those things? If not, I have a quicker, but messier solution." She smirked as she checked the detonation dials on her suit.

"Ummm, no, I don't think that will be necessary."

Finishing up with his mods on the MP, he inserts a clip and charges it.

"Well, lets see if this worked."

Sol walked to the firing position, aiming his gun down range. Sighting one of the targets, he fires a short burst, followed by a longer continuous burst.

"Aha. Success. These things are made to fire in 3-round bursts. But, they don't count on techs like me. I could look into cracking that gun of yours, if you want."

Repzik did not break his stride in order to check if anyone had taken him up on his offer, Helmet by his side he strolled down the halls towards the mess hall, it was about time he bloody got something to eat that was for damn sure.

The mess hall and the promise of food was so inviting Repzik barely noticed the stifling stench of smoke and stale sweat that permeated the air of the Mess area, he was used to worse in any case.

inside the room a line of Crewmen had already lined up before him, Bowls in hand, waiting to be served by the Lanky rat-faced Crewman with only arm who dolefully served out portions of whatever foul mixture he had concocted from the gigantic pot from on-top of the stove.

"Ah, the Inestimable Dougan" Repzik purred as he reached the head of the long line of hungry Crewmen. "Tell me, Good friend Dougan, What delightful delicacy are you attempting to poison us with today?"

"Hhh. It's gruel, Repzik" Dougan replied sourly "Why? what does it look like?"

"between you and me, i wasn't entirely sure" Repzik said as he watched Dougan ladle the steaming gruel into his bowl "Gruel you say? and you have followed your normal recipe, i take it? Saw-dust,spit, and whatever dubious organic crap you could lay your hands on?"

"Pretty much" Dougan Replied un-humorously "Though you can be sure i made certain you got an extra helping of spit in yours"

"Why thank you Dougan" Repzik said, giving Dougan the most irritating smile he could muster "Really, you are spoiling me, i must remember to write to the Commander and recommend you for a commendation. if you got a nice medal it would give you something extra to put in the soup"

"Hhh. always the funny man, Repzik" Dougan muttered as Repzik picked up his bowl and looked for an empty table to sit down at, he spied one near the Mess Hall Entrance.

"Hmm, It's worth a look. Just don't break it. It's a Neverender, so it's what the name implies. I could throw this down the stairs and the hardest part would going to get it." Laika said smugly. She had always taken pride in her weapons. Laika broke off into a tangent. "Ever wonder what the ET's want? We barely know anything about them. And we have hardly any photographic evidence. All we have are the veteran's descriptions."

"Okay then. Let me just take a look..."

Sol closely examined the weapon, which was surprisingly well put together. Most Military-Standard weapons are rather shoddy (unless it is modded, natch). Although, he never really thought that laser weaponry was really efficient. The energy costs alone could buy about 2 assault rifles. Plus, kinetic weapons are just better.

"Well, I'm not very good with energy weaponry. Not to fond of the stuff myself. Sorry, nothing I can do."

"It's fine, this thing'll still get me places." Laika sat the gun on the table. "Wanna go hit the mess hall?" Laika figured this guy was buisness before pleasure; and in her line of work that was just fine. "We should be reaching Losa's orbit soon. I don't know, stay here if you want. Either way, nice to meet you Solomon." She said as she walked out the door.

Repzik was about to taste Dougans latest delicacy, his spoon secure in his steel grip,but before he tasted his first bite a woman walked through the doors, it was one of people he would be boarding the alien craft with, he raised his hand, thought he doubt she hadn't noticed him from this distance and called her over

"So you decided to take me up on my offer i see?, Well grab a bowl and take a seat"

Johnson looked at Jaime and thought for a moment she's clearly upset allowing her to go in gung-ho may be risky we don't know what we're up against yet. On the other hand she has got family down there and knows the lie of the land. Difficult. "Very well Matthews, you're on point, but no heroics. Disengage means disengage I don't want your personal feelings getting in the way of the mission we'll look for survivors and rescue all we can. Remember we're counting on you now. We're going to have to hit the ground running so we'll be using the ODP's (Orbital Drop Pod) ejecting at 2,000 feet the pods will act as a obital strike and we'll hit with para's on a few moments later. Once we're down look for cover and assess the situation once we have an idea what we're up against I'll have new orders. Go get Gallagher and hop in the Pod, I'll be there soon we launch as soon as we hit orbit." He hit the intercom button on his helmet for the next bit "Pod's launch in 2 minutes. Boarding begins in five minutes, to your stations people. Good Luck." Tom turned and head to the cargo deck to hop the pod with Jaime and Gallagher. Getting in he pulled down the hood and sealed it. With a mechanical arm it was lowered into place just out of the ships port side. With a surge they were falling through space towards hostiles and Tom felt alive.

Laika walked into the Mess Hall and grabbed a bowl. The food was fairly disgusting, but it was space food, that was to be expected. Laika was convinced the only thing that kept the first astronauts alive was Tang. She turned around to see someone summoning her to sit with him. "well I feel like the new kid in school, so why not?" she walked over and sat next to Vidmir. "How's it going?" she asked as she removed her helmet to eat the strange looking space glop.

Entering the pod, Gallagher was already shaking, He had been trained not to of course, but he still shivered- looking across the pods view screen, he could see the planet below him, his usual oblivious nature had left him, he wasn't in a backward trench confirming fatalities anymore, the only thing the young augustinian could muster was "deja-vu", memories of childhood flashed before his eyes as the docking clamps disengaged "So chappies" he said back to his old self
"imminent death"

"No thanks. I still have a couple of mods I want to make to my armor. You go ahead."

Nice girl. With that gun, she should do some real damage.

Johnson heard Gallagher's casual comment and turning to the young recruit said "Not if we all do our jobs right. Now shut up and prepare to jump out of this pod." he felt the pod begin to shake with the force of re-entry. Once the violent shudders stopped he counted down slowly from ten. three....two....one.....now! booting the hood open again he un buckled the safty harness holding him in and leapt from his seat out of the pod letting out a whoop of excitement as he free fell towards the serene seeming plant below he intercommed the rest of the squad still on the Nyx. "Boarding party prepare for boarding action." Pulling his chute one thought crossed his mind... god I hope the other two followed me or I'm in the shit.

Jaime unbuckled her harness and jumped out. she fell until five hundred feet, the distance when she had to open her chute. she opened it in time and started to descend "this is Jaime, I am touching down on the planets surface. I don't see the rest of the team, where are you?" she waited for a response. Johnson's voice came through "I see you, you're fine where you are." Jaime started to open the bag that held her gear, taking out the signal flares to put down a safe landing zone.

"Boarding party prepare for boarding action."

'Well, guess that's my cue.'

Sol suited up with his modded armor and holstered his MP. He walked through the ship toward the airlock, waiting there for the Laika and Vidmir.

Johnson jogged towards Jaime unholstering his Sniper rifle as he did and cocking it. Taking up a stable firing stance whilst kneeling he scanned the area through his scope. "Ok, I have the impact zone of the Pod. Looks like we hit some ET's with it, bet they're pissed. Ok, two targets at 800 metres, we can take 'em out or slip past Jaime your call. Advise we wait for Gallagher to regroup, where is he?" He looked over the environment.
