"Long time no see"

Okay, that's got to be the dumbest thing people could say, yet it doesn't sound weird to us for some reason.

"Ugh. Me caveman. Me see Grack. Grack! Long time no see!"

"At the end of the day" - wtf? It's night. I think it's a way for people to carry on talking even when they haven't got anything to say, like a posh "erm".

"You can't have your cake and eat it" - well I'm not going to throw it, am I?

"It's always in the last place you look" - who finds something and carries on looking for it?
Yeah I especially don't get the last 2. I get the idea of 2, but I also get that the point of having a cake is eating it.

Number 3, is just so obvious it is painful.

Not entirely sure what these sayings are, but generally we use them and i would really like to know more. For example: cool beans.
I hope you get what i mean
Haha, I use that phrase all the time. XD

I use a lot of weird saying, like "Anyhoosel" and "Where lest ye be?". My personal favourite is "That dog won't hunt, Mon Senior."

'Never mind.'

IT MAKES NO SENSE
It makes perfect sense. "mind", used in this context, is the "pay attention to" or "watch over" version. As in, "Could you mind the store for me while I go get a coffee?". So in this context, "never mind" translates pretty cleanly to "don't pay any attention [to what I just said/did/etc.]". Though I'd be curious to know if "don't mind me" came first, and "never mind" followed it, or if they co-evolved.
But 'never'? It means 'not ever', and is almost never used in the imperative in reference to other verbs. It also sounds weird.

I've always thought the exclamation 'What the hell?' doesn't make a lot of sense. Think about what it actually says; are you really likening whatever situation this phrase called for to the place where sinner's souls are damned for enternity?
Also, why would someone say 'bugger me'? Which is basically asking to be raped. Never got that one. All exclamations seem rather weird when you break them down.

As for proverbs, 'Never look a gift horse in the mouth' confuses me. What does that mean? Why would you go around looking at horse's mouths anyway?
