The videos I posted earlier were encouraging. The research and engineering they put into the machines alone sounds like more effort than is put into the entirety of some other open world games.

Like Eurogamer said though, most gamers won't care. For me it's that much more incentive to preorder.
Well, I've actively been avoiding any sort of promotional material or trailers for this game for the last 4 months atleast, so maybe there is something out there that explains things in a way that makes the world gell more than it does for me at the moment. It's just that when I see footage of a robot crocodile entering a river my brain just goes 'WHY? HOW? IT'S A FREAKING ROBOT!!!' As well as why there's cavemen walking around that are perfectly articulate and intelligent, yet never seemed to have taken advantage of the highly advanced technology that's literally just walking around.
I guess that's the science fiction part of it, but we already have plenty of examples of submersible electronics ourselves so it's certainly no farther-fetched than walking animal-like machines (which we also have in far more primitive forms). Have you ever seen the videos of that Llama looking thing that can walk on ice and steep, uneven terrain without falling, all while carrying more weight than a typical human can?
The caveman are supposed to be tribes, and each tribe has a different attitude/relationship with the machines. Some avoid them completely while others can hack/corrupt them to use them against their enemies. It's sounds like the latter is one of the game's main antagonists. Machine behavior will also vary, depending on who or what they're around, whether they're in a pack or solitary, and of course the player character's actions.

There's only two games right now I'm actually waiting for: the new South Park (which I have faith in) and Red Dead Redemption 2, which is coming out in like 2046.
I keep seeing the name Horizon Zero Dawn, but have no buggering idea what it's supposed to be about. Open world sci-fi with robot dinosaurs apparently? Ever since Yahtzee made fun of the name I can't help but find it so utterly nondescript and meaningless that I have a hard time associating any meaning with it whatsoever. It's like a name you'd get out of a random name generator.
I mean honestly, can someone try to explain to me what that title is supposed to mean?
According to the story lead, most of the big mysteries including the name will be revealed over the course of the game.

His past credits are Fallout: New Vegas and Borderlands 2 I think, so I personally don't know what to expect since I've never played either of those games.
If I had to venture a guess on name meaning, "Horizon" is likely a metaphor for a new frontier, while "Zero Dawn" meaning either a new beginning or zero has a more digital, binary application due to the machines' apparent dominance.
