Yes, your local Dissidia fan boy is back with more gushing and awesome news for fans of the game and anyone remotely interested. Dissidia 2 is shaping up to be one hell of a beastly game with some major changes and additions to the gameplay, and some I personally only dreamed of but now a reality.

First off, take a moment to drool at these new magazine scans showing off more game.

And the new Extended trailer

And now for the new info revealed:

- Sugawara Humita returns to narrate
-Lightning is confirmed to have Paradigm Shifts that can be activated freely using the L/R Buttons.
-Every character from the original is returning
-There will be many new characters
-Original Dissidia save carries over
-An assist system is being implemented where you can call an ally for assistance
- A lot more music
- Something about a communications mode
- A new system that won't be announced yet
- New Summons

- All characters have two alternate outfits, as opposed to just one

4 characters MAY be on screen at once, not four different players. 2 players and 2 Assists only
down L will consume assist gauge, L [] will do a team HP attack, L O will do a team brave attack
Ex GUARD/COUNTER IS OUT (Big news yo, EX mode no longer grants guard frames)
The lag between the chase sequence has been shortened, faster in general

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the best games on the PSP just got even better.

That's right, TAG TEAM FIGHTS!!! FUCK YES!!

It's also great to see all the original fighters returning for this second round so fans won't be too disappointed about that along with MORE characters. And with this new tag team mechanic revealed, it may actually explain what those two gauges under the health are for, one for team HP attacks, and another for team BP attacks.

Kinda sucks EX guard canceling doesn't work any more, but we don't know everything yet so there may still be some sort of countermeasure in place to break out of combos. After all, there is still a new system that hasn't been fully announced.

And original saves being carried over is GENIUS, thank you SE, those 600+ hours of game play pay off. And I pray to god that this will have online play, then it will be absolutely perfect and everything I asked for.

So on to the discussion:

1) What are your thoughts on all this and what else do you hope to see

2) What match ups are you gonna make now that Marvel Vs Capcom has rubbed off a little on Dissidia.

Oh and I almost forgot. *inhales* SSSQQUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!*dies*

This game can't come soon enough.

UPDATE: Holy shit it gets even more awesome, and Lightning looks to be one of the most unique fighters of the bunch.

Just as it did for Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and The 3rd Birthday, Square Enix has released an online version of its Tokyo Game Show controller chart for Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.

The controller card shows the following controls, many (but not all!) of which you'll recognize from the original Dissidia:

-Circle: Brave Attack
-Square: HP Attack
-X: Jump
-Triangle: Move Actions at Move Markers
-L: Lock-on/off
-L Circle: Assist Brave Attack
-L Square: Assist HP Attack
-R: Guard
-R X: Evade
-R Triangle: Air Dash
-D-Pad: Camera Control
-Analogue Pad: Character Control
-Start: Pause

The gameplay basics seem to be the same -- use Brave Attacks to steal your opponent's Brave, then use HP Attacks to deal actual damage to your opponent.

You can build up an EX Guage in order to switch to EX Mode (by pressing R Square). Here, when you strike with HP Attacks, a Square might appear on screen. Press Square at that time to perform a powerful EX Burst attack.

Combat looks like it will be cinematic once again thanks to the Move Actions and Air Dashes. Using Move Actions, which you trigger by pressing Triangle at prompts on the map, you can make your character do things like run up walls, jump between areas, and rail grind. Air Dashing, performed with R Triangle, lets you charge at your enemy.

Those who aren't into action games can bring up a command list to fight like a menu-driven RPG. Here, you press triangle to move, circle to fight, square for a skill and x for defense. Your character will take it from there automatically.

The character command list shows the following characters:

-FXIII Lightning (Assist: Warrior of Light)
-FFIV Kain (Assist: Cecil)
-FF Warrior of Light (Assist: Tidus)
-FFVI Tina (Assist: Onion Knight)
-FFVII Cloud (Assist Sephiroth)
-FFIX Kuja (Assist Zidan)
-FFII Firion (Assist Tidus)

On the chart, you'll find Intro Mode (top), Normal Mode (center) and Hard Mode (bottom) controls. There are a few different character selections depending on the mode.

Of particular note is newcomer Lightning. Notice how she has color coded skills? You can execute an Optima Change with L R to make her switch between Attacker (red), Blaster (blue) and Healer (green). As an attacker, she has access to skills like Smash Upper, Area Blast, Ruin and Impact Break. Blaster gives her Thunder, Fire and other spells. Healer gives her access to Cure.

As a totally new 012 feature, each character is listed with an assist character, whom you can call out for support in battle. As you use Brave Attacks, you build up your Assist Gauge. Using 1 Memory from this gauge, you can call out your assist character to perform a Assist Brave Attack (L Circle). Using 2 Memories, you can have the character perform an Assist HP Attack (L Square).

The assist characters perform different moves depending on if you're opponent is on the ground or in the air. The card suggests creating original combos that connect to your own attacks.

The demo has pre-set Assist characters, but based off the wording of the control chart, it looks like the final version of the game will let you select the characters for yourself.

Lightning's Healer paradigm was designed to heal Brave points, and recovers a small amount upon use.

Some of the characters in Dissidia are changed almost entirely in battle. Firion is an example.

The team wants you to enjoy the third alternate outfits for characters, especially Garland.

Weapons and armor have been re-balanced, and will include bonuses to the Assist System.

There are many new maps that include locations from the franchise, but new ones as well.

Orphan's Cradle from Final Fantasy XIII will be a map.

The battle theme from Final Fantasy XIII is in, and will be remixed by Takeharu Ishimoto.

Kain Highwind's moniker is "Position Maker", and he is able cancel and connect aerial Brave combos.

Kain's battle style will naturally have the player doing a lot of jumping and moving over terrain.

Lightning's moniker is "Optima Commander" as she makes use of three different battle styles.

Her Ex-Burst is called Scene Break/Army of One.

Lightning is able to use Scene Break/Army of One in EX-Mode.

The TGS demo will have three difficulty modes: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Popular characters with a good direction of how to implement them in battle are chosen for Dissidia.

Kain and Lightning will have and alternate form based on Yoshitaka Amano's artwork.

Kain has a HP attack called "Gungnir" that will strike his opponent and restore his HP.

In a conversation with Cecil, Kain says that "They are right, and you will lose this battle when you tire."

Lightning is called a traitor by the Warrior of Light, as she looks upon Cosmos with scrutiny.

She has an attack named "Impact Break" in her Commando paradigm.

After completing Universal Tuning, Nomura and Takahashi expressed interest in expanding Dissidia further, and Duodecim was greenlit.

Tag team sounds awesome!
I'd like to see a better weapon/item system though. And better summons.
But other than that it looks awesome!

Tag Teams! Sweet!

My original save carrying over is good news as well. Now I just need to actually obtain a Pink Tail...

So, no more Ex transformation to stop an enemy attack? Why? It's not like you can do that repeatedly. It can be a very helpful momentum shifter though.
Yea I was sorta pissed about that too at first, it was no different than something like a barrier burst from Blazblue or psyche burst from Guilty Gear. it was an "oh shit!" card you used when in trouble. But there is still much to be revealed so they may have some other systems in place for combo breakers, hell maybe even the new tag team feature will act as that EX burst as you summon your ally to interrupt your opponent. The tag team stuff is limited after all so it might not be abusable if they implement it right.

I can just see it now, Golbez kicking as with someone like Cecil as support. Super brother combo powers activate!!

Guess we'll have to wait for TGS and demo footage to see more. God I'm terribly tempted to import this when it comes out.

I can't wait for this game to come out. Though I wish they would add charectors from Kingdom Hearts. Adding from the KH franchise would give us alot more players to choose from, especially if they add the Organization XIII members. Or it would be sweet to play as Vincent Valinetime (Don't know if I spelled that right) or Kimahri. I can't wait to see what new characters this game will have!

Have to admit, Tag-Team does sound good.

I just hope it's more 'Soul Calibur' than 'Kingdom Hearts'.

A little off topic, but how do you do those in GG on PSP? (My game had no instruction manual).
I-No wrecks me with hers, it'd be nice if I knew how to do them.
I also hear, Roman Cancel thrown about. What is that?

Blazblue is sweet. Good tutorial mode that explains things. I like to use Litchi or Taokaka. Though Jin is noobtasticly easy to use.
Ey!! Jin is awesome, he may be kinda easy but he's deadly in the hands of someone who doesn't spam ice car or shoot swords for no reason. But still...Hakumen is my numero uno, ya don't fuck with the White Void.

Burst: http://dustloop.com/guides/ggac/data/burst.html
Canceling: http://dustloop.com/guides/ggac/data/rcfrc.html

To try and summarize it as best I can:

To do a burst in GG you typically do Dust+any of the 4 attack buttons. So if your in a combo and you wanna use your burst, tap Dust and punch/slash/kick/heavy slash at the same time. If you time your burst right to interrupt a move, it can grant you a full tension meter, so it's very useful.

As for roman cancels and false cancels, they act in the same way as rapid cancels in BB. Roman cancel uses 50% of your tension meter and is used to rapidly cancel and attack while hitting your opponent. It's mainly used for extending combos by rapidly canceling and sometimes resetting the damage scaling. You do it by simultaneously pressing three of the attack buttons (except dust) at once and then continue on with your combo or whatever. It's tricky to pull off but really useful. Essentially, roman cancels work exactly the same as rapid cancels in Blazblue.

False roman cancel work the same way but its a form of rapid cancel (but only consumes 25% tension) that does no require you to hit your opponent. You use it to rapidly cancel out of attacks like say Kys lighting shot. You throw out a lightning shot and then false cancel out of it to rush down your opponent or something. Not ALL attacks can be false canceled, you'll have to look up which once are, in practice mode you can see if you turn on the button logger. If you do a move and the button logger flashes, that indicates the narrow window you can false cancel.

Annnnd end tangent.

Updated the thread with new info regarding combat. Holy shit does Lightning look like an awesome fighter. I can't wait to see the optima changes in play.

And now we understand how that guage under the health wroks. If one is full you can perform an assist brave attack, and if both are full you can perform an assist HP attack. I gotta say, thats pretty cool and sounds pretty balanced

I said it once and I'll say it again.

Even though I am rather impartial to Kingdom Hearts as a series, leave them the fuck out of Dissidia. This is an FF characters only club, shoehorning KH characters in would be terribly out of place and just ruin the game. As fun as it would be to see a dweeb like Sora take on Chaos, it's just not right.

Frst gameplay footage, Kain kicking ass in arcade mode (most likely easy more). His EX mode look seems to be a reverse Gabranth if ya get my drift. Looks fast and beastly, although I am concerned about how fast the assist meter rises. It looks a little too fast and maybe they should slow its rate down by half, but we don't know how fast it fill in relation to damage and this is a demo so enemies are pushovers.

Shame we haven't seen the assist system shown, but new character kicking ass is better than nothing.

Some of the characters in Dissidia are changed almost entirely in battle. Firion is an example.
What does this mean? Firion was my favourite character from Dissidia. LEAVE HIM ALONE :(

Ya never know, they could change him for the better. He had excellent ground capabilities but aside from weapon master, he sucked hard in the air. Sometimes change is good, but so help me god if they fuck up Golbez (my main).

Tifa confirmed to be in Dissidia 2 courtesy of Gamespot news, and appearently Celes from FF6 is hinted at:

Along with the demo, we watched a new trailer of the game, which featured many of the characters you've seen before like Cecil, Onion Knight, Golbez, Zidane and Terra. More new faces are supposed to join the cast, and the last part of the trailer showed Sephiroth and Tifa, having what could be a heart to heart conversation (probably not). The entire trailer was in Japanese, so we can only guess as to what was going on. But it seems that the war between Chaos and Cosmos is not over.

Lightning vs Terra gameplay:
http://uk.ign.com/videos/2010/09/16/dissidia-012-final-fantasy-lightning-fights

And it looks like there will be some bonus DLC:

Square Enix will be tying these three big PSP titles together through a bonus content campaign. Final Mix and The 3rd Birthday each include a product code in their first print runs. Input this code in Dissidia, and you'll get some download content

The content from The 3rd Birthday is an Aya Brea costume, which can be worn by Lightning. The 3rd Birthday actually its own Lightning costume for Aya, making this tie-up appropriate.

The content from Final Mix is a costume that turns the Dissidia Cloud character into the Kingdom Hearts Cloud character.

Blah, I sure hope Tifa isn't just a female Jecht, I anted Genesis dammit. Oh well, looks like more females for dissidia and Tifa and Celes seem like reasonable picks. Now where's AURON!!!

Edit: More pretty screen shots

Wonder if they'll add another hero and villain from each game. Or they might just add a hero from XII a villain from XI and a hero and villain from XIII. Then again if Kain is there they might add more. Perhaps Auron from X or Yuna from X-2?

I'm sure you can get both, this game won't be out till probably late 2011 in Japan and early 2012 everywhere else.

And some cool demo footage of Lightning showing off her moves, burst attack, and the assist commands.

And I hear Tactics Ogre in the background (4 minute mark), fuck I can't wait for that game too.

Wow, that was cool.
Iv never played FFXIII but, from the look of the vid, im guessing Lightning is going to have a Moveset based on a mix of Close and
Mid-Long range combat.
Nice.

Yea and chances are that when it's released globally, we will have a more balanced version with possibly even MORE content just like the first Dissidia had. I dunno how Dissidia will fair with you, but the game can steal your life as you'll log at least 100 hours into it and enjoy every minute.

Tifa has been confirmed and Celes has been rumored. I jsut pray Tifa isn't just a female Jecht and Celes seems like a fitting FF6 addition, and more females are always welcome.

As for Lightning, her special trait is Optima Change. I detailed it in my OP, she can switch between Attacker, Blaster (mage), and Medic for mix ups and gives her very diverse move set and game play changes. Very similar to how Cecil is played but with 3 modes instead of one. Medic doesn't heal HP though, it regenerated Brave (number above HP) in some way.
