Don't get me wrong - I had fun with Duke Nukem Forever. Did I have eighty bucks of fun? No.

My worthless opinion: I believe the fourteen year development time, constant changes and the lunatic in charge of the whole mess constantly trying to make the game like the other big sellers - presumably in pursuit of the perfect game - is the reason behind the game's utter failure.

Even by standards of today's games, it's lame. What irks me the most is the rooms full of enemies, and you can only advance by killing each wave. As if the gates are fueled by alien souls, and you have to feed it so many before it opens for you. Boring.

So, I contacted Steam Support and they said yes to my refund. I advise those of you who tragically miss their eighty bucks to do the same.

Just be as polite and respectful as you can. Personally I'm going to use this to buy Portal2, which I should have done a long, long time ago.

Wait...Steam gives refunds because you don't like a game?
That is both incredibly dumb and super awesome.

A wise move. Duke was a time capsule of the Nineties, and it's problem is that we've advanced from them. It's about time we got a new king to hail.

Aye, one game was flatout broke because of the fact it was from steam and not the retail copy, and i still didn't get a refund.

mafia (1), disc copy worked fine with patch, but didn't want to have to keep disc forever, so i bourght from steam as it was on sale anyway, steam version patched to the same patch, then didn't run at all, so i re-installed disc version, that worked, tried steam, didn't work, uninstalled disc, tried steam didn't work, uninstalled steam version, re-installed.

Sent all the information to steam, they answered its a problem at the developers end as its a 3rd party title, and they only issue games the way they recieve them.

i asked if they would contact 2k about getting it fixed.

they said as the game is old, the chance of 2k answering a question on it was nil, i asked for a refund as there was an obvious problem with the steam product and not my settings and computer, they refused.

So basically you are neo.

That's why I like Valve.

They refunded my brother because he bought Saints Row 2 on PC, and it was utterly unplayable on his good PC.

ARE YOU NEO?!
I've gotten mine before because I accidentally bought a game on the wrong account (gifting issues). It's not black magic, you just need to be timely and polite about it.

You can't go in expecting 14+ years of greatness. while going through several development cycles the best you can hope for is a nostalgic, self-aware, witty game. and I feel that for the most part it delivers on that.

Wait, WHAT!?
I wish I knew that this was possible! I bought Bl'Ops on PC, cost me £45, then realised what a tragic mistake I had made. I wish a knew Steam did this! Narrrggg. Much too late to return it now.

On another note, $80 sounds like an insane amount. Not sure what the current conversion rate here is, but a new game here is usually £40, then often reduced to £30 by the company selling it.

On topic, I've heard only bad things about that game. I don't know...I may play it one day, but I'm not paying full price. I'm still waiting for Force Unleashed 2 to drop below £15 before I play it (I quite enjoyed the first one, so I at least want to play the second although I know it's short - hence why I want it to drop in price).

dude i sent a message to steam within 3 hours of buying mafia and they refused to refund, they also refused to refund magicka to a friend.

after it had already been released and bourght, the magicka team announced they wouldn't accomodate intergrated chip sets.... ever.

steam refused to refund, even though the spec of, Desktop only, even if your laptop is brand new and can actually support the processes it needs to like shader 3.0 (which is our excuse) was never listed before release.

And that, my friends, is why I only get shooters via Gamefly. I never play multiplayer and the single player is rarely worth 60 dollars.

You play a game, finish it, then want your money back because you didn't like it. Congrats on being part of the reason why retail outlets no longer do refunds or exchanges on games & movies!

I am surprised that people are so surprised you can get refunds on STEAM. I thought this was general knowledge. . .

OT: Duke Nukem is a 90's game. We are now in the teens of 2000. Gaming has changed, and Duke Nukem hasn't. That's why scrubs think the game is bad.

I'm still going to buy DNF. When it gets cheaper, anyway. I don't have high expectations, I've never played the original games, I just want to play a game for some humour.
Take Conker's Bad Fur Day/Live & Reloaded, for example. That game isn't particularly good for gameplay, but it has some pretty damn good humour, and for that I loved the game. And for this reason, I'm going to get DNF.
I don't properly know how good the humour is in DNF though, so I may still be disappointed. But I know a bit of it already, so it can't be too bad.

This is the first I've heard of anyone getting a refund from steam. And I was never seriously going to purchase Duke Nukem Forever. Perhaps one day when it's dead cheap, but even then I'm not in a hurry.
