You can find the video on Joystiq, also was that a Galka(a playable race in FFXI online) I saw in the video? If so, maybe this new world is linked to Final Fantasy XI's Vanadia somehow.
Was definitely a Galka. I wouldn't be surprised if the new game kept the same or similar races/classes to FFXI to make it an easier upgrade from the current subscribers. I'm sure Square-Enix wants them to switch over.

I just hope they don't once again go for graphical quality over diversity when it comes to character creation.

Problems with playing an MMORPG on the Xbox 360
It's not releasing on the 360, but I do know that Final Fantasy XI on the 360 doesn't require players to have a Gold membership. You still need to pay the subscription though, and it has a rather substantial install size.

It's also releasing on the PC. Hopefully Square-Enix does better with the control scheme this time around. That was my most significant gripe with FFXI.
I would imagine that it would be coming to the Xbox at some point especially with XI being on PC and Xbox a well as PS2, I assume that the PC and PS3 releases will be simultanious with maybe an xbox release 6 months later?

Seen as porting from PC to Xbox is relativly simple it makes sence to tap into another potential revenue stream.

Not that I am that bothered as there has been no MMO that has been good enough to warrent my continued investment

I'm not surprised by all the bashing for FFXIV, Those that are still part of the FFXI community knew about Rapture and the Crystal Tools Engine that SqeeNix where building. (For reference, FFXI was built on the "White Engine") There was a Tech Demo about two years ago of the Crystal Tools Engine, and it was there that Rapture came to light.

While the FFXI started out very difficult, the changes they're made and worked on over the years and eased the difficulty a bit. It's not fully casual like WoW and CoH, but at the latest FFXI Festival, the devopers have talked at leanths of how much they've added and changed to FFXI by hacking their original Engine. FFXIV would be built on everything they've learned, and with more fore-thought for the future of the game.

Anyway, continue bashing. I'm going back into my world that I've enjoyed very much for the past five years.

I'd be far more impressed if that trailer contained ANY actual gameplay footage. I don't care how shiny the FMV is if it isn't backed by real in-game action.

Finally have seen a video of this trailer in good quality. At the moment, I'm just going to call it FFXI-2. So many similarities, I wonder if using FFXI materials is really just lazy, or if it's intended.

Case in points:
The Graphic itself shows the five races near the end, of which you see several in the video itself (is that a tail-less galka lol.)

Even in the screenshot sections here: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ lots of similarities. Similar armor styles in that opening pic, redmage and warrior stand out. (Don't bother pointing out how its the jobs style, I know. The redmage elf body though looks like the Relic Set from 11, not the classic redmage.)

Also, that last screen with the Mithra in the blue protective looking sphere, that's the black magic casting animation for them from 11. I could go on but you see my point, the first view of this to me is a shiny FF11.

Looks nice but /playtime says I've put over 1000 days into 11 itself and unless there's some kind of serious bonus for going over or a transfer option, I don't know how many people would even bother. (those that play 11 I mean) Then again, that's just my humble opinion, time and more information down the road will tell us more.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're using their new engine, same as FFXIII, which is cross-platform. But being an MMO, with the PS3 and PC they probably have a lot more freedom when it comes to dealing with patches on the Xbox.

Since Sony is announcing it as an exclusive, it's unlikely that it'll be released on the Xbox 360 for a while after release, if at all. If it does come to the Xbox 360 I'd guess a year after launch at a minimum, and probably at the same time they release an expansion.

Well, now that the computer version has been announced, I have to say:

Who cares that it's on the PS3? I mean, a PC strikes me as being the best platform for a MMO game, and while FFXI proved that you could DO it on a console, I just can't imagine playing a MMORPG on anything that doesn't have a keyboard and mouse. Same goes with RTS games.

I very much agree. With the amount of key mapping most MMOs have, (I could never imagine an MMO like WoW or WAR on a console) it just seems stupid to play that kind of game on a console when it's readily available on PC

I personally never got into FFXI much, but I have played it on both PC and ps2. In my opinion, the PC version was just better.

Like I said before, I'm hoping this takes on the online aspect like Diablo or Sacred 2 did

Ah you ninja'd the point I was going to make :p
I too hope the implementation for the PC is much better this time, XI was clearly designed for consoles and straight ported.
I used to play it almost exclusively with the keyboard, though some menus were a bit quicker with the mouse.

I thought square were working on a PC specific MMORPG aswell, imagination or cancelation?

However on topic another MMO is not what is needed. If they develop a game that is "buy and play" like Guild wars that WILL be successful, however another subscription based PS3 exclusive is not going to sell extremely well...
You know this for a fact? FF11 already has a steady 500k subscribers that have never gone anywhere.

I enjoy it more on the PC myself but that is only because of the .dats I can customize to my liking. I bought a PC game controller because I like using the controller so much. FF11, at least, Is quite doable with a controller.

So it turns out that the game is not a guaranteed PS3 exclusive, despite what may have been implied by Sony. Square Enix said that they are still considering an Xbox 360 release if the demand is there in their own press conference.

I guess that still means that it's still going to be available only on the PS3 at launch though, since they didn't indicate that they were currently developing the game on other platforms.

Yeah it will be on the 360. Man Sony is dumb. Lets just make shit up until we're caught!
Oh yeah yeah! It's not like Microsoft didn't do anything similar [http://games.ign.com/articles/990/990878p1.html] whatsoever. Nope, none at all. Sony are clearly the bad guys here.

(check around (3:34:59 PM) if you're not catching on)

If you're talking about MG: Rising, the guys during the Microsoft conference didn't say anything about exclusives in that game's case, just that Kojima was making a game for the 360. The PS3 wasn't mentioned of course but did the guys at Sony or Nintendo say anything directly about their competition either? Nope.

Eh, I'm pretty sure their aim with that announcment was to try and make another "FFXIII on 360!" kind of thunder. They certainly implied that it was exclusive, and they did say at a certain point in the conference "From here on out, everything here is exclusive and only on Xbox 360".

I assumed that they would have had at least a 6 month time delay, if only that the Playstaion is their preferred platform, although the delay in release does mean that some of the server side bugs and balance issues may be sorted out by the time it comes to the xbox, assuming it does. Although with the majority of xbox users being of the "frat boy" persuasion it seems unlikely that the demand would be there.

But depending on the way fees would work then I could be tempted. Although if I were to sign up I would probably want it on the PC.
