Uplink - Hacker Elite

Many moon's ago ..... In a land before Broadband ... Uplink was a decent game.
I revisited this game a few weeks back and loved every second. I was playing it on my HD tv with no quality lass.

For people that don't know what Uplink is. Its a game for PC and Mac which involves you trying to hack into other computers and business's. As well as banks and servers. This made for hours of endless fun.

Anyone else have this classic or play it?

Yes, its one of the best games iv ever found that wasn't a great hit. Iv heard of it hitting XBL along with another game they made before it. No word yet.

Yeah, I would half class it as a Text game, as well as a math game. Maths may not be visable but theres timers and crap everywhere!!

I think it's on Steam, might have to get it actually, I'm interested again. I think I remember my friend convincing me that the game was real (don't judge, I was like 11-12 and retarded).

It actually always has a reason, there's active and passive traces, you probably got nailed by a passive trace

I also like the fact that it's "ironman" if you lose, your char is "deleted" the save is garbled etc...you have to restart, except if you have a monitor and bomb strapped to your gateway, and blow it up when the cops come >

Yes! Fun game, very unique.

I remember the tension of my first bank hack. Then the cops got me so fast afterwards, they really shift their arse with the passive trace after a bank job. Then after starting all over again the second bank hack I tried was even more tense

Yes, i've played it before and thought it was a pretty fun game. I was a little turned off at first because i found it a bit overwhealming, but when i got stuck into it it was pretty good.

Im glad you got over your retardism! Or it could be like that show that used to be on Channel 4 where people played a computer game where you murdered people and then someone killed that person the way you planned it in the game!

Just a quick fyi for thoses interested in the game, the Hacker Elite version (published by strategy first) is NOT supported by introversion (makers of the game), and can NOT patch (some problems about royalties not being paid)

I fucking hate that beeping. It maked me paranoid wheneveer i hear beeping in the real world. i think someone is tracking me

Part of the reason I've never got too far in the game is the whole "BeepBeepBeep - Sh*t I can still do this... just two more seconds .... DAMN" scenario. Trying to disconnect and wipe out any evidence of your being there is bloody tricky under that stress. It's possibly the best game sounds ever (except for the Facehugger scuttle in AvP1).

Try playing it in Dosbox or another windowed emulator.
