The game takes place several years after the events of Gold and Silver. Prof Elm is handing out pokedexs like toys and sending kids with dreams to collect research from around the world. The gym leader challenge is becoming more popular than ever, and the Indigo Plateau hosts competitions yearly anyone with all 8 gym badges are eligible to join. Pokemon Centers have transformed from tiny clinic where pokemon are treated to full blown taverns complete with rooms for trainers and a mess hall for dining. Big cities like Goldenrod and Olivine grew even larger with the expansion of the Casino and Ports. Goldenrod attracted young folks who think they could strike it big with the casino and Olivine attracted anyone in need of a job with guaranteed work at the shipyards. Bicycle rentals were at an all time high and the National Park was filled with bug enthusiasts from Kanto and Hohen. The burned remains of the towers in Ecruteak brought scientists and anthropologists from Sinnoh, Johto also because well known for their MooMoo Milk. Some would say that Johto was the best country to live in, others would be sore they left this new land of oprotunity; particularly Team Rocket... or what's left of them.
After Gold erradicated their presence in Johto, they went on to retreat to Kanto where they thought they were safe. With Red missing and Gold unable to interfere they began doing what they do best, cause mayhem. But a kid named Green came along and destroyed what was left of them along with their new HQ. They were reduced to nothing; within 10 years, three children were able to foil their plans and two bosses were shamed. They lost all respect from the Gangs around the world... even the ones in the Orre stopped communicating with them. Leon, the newer younger leader, got fed up with the disrespect his gang was receiving and vowed to regain the lost glory of Team Rocket, he set his eyes on Johto.
Q: How will the move-sets work?
A: For the move sets, you'll have the first two attacks to boot but when I (or Zirat) feels necessary, we'll take control and preform the new move that their pokemon learned. TMs and HMs are for the trainers to decide.
Q: Will I be able to acquire new pokemon?
A: You are absolutely free to catch wild pokemon too you heart's desire, but keep in mind the 6 pokemon limit.
Q: How will evolution work?
A: When I deem necessary I will either PM the trainer, telling them their pokemon is free to evolve. Or myself (or Zirat) will take control briefly to evolve your pokemon during a battle.

Appearance: Matt is of average height and build, with green eyes and medium length black hair, which has an annoying habit of getting in his eyes and obscuring his vision. He wears a pair of plain blue jeans, an old worn in pair of sneakers, and a light blue shirt worn under a thin red jacket. He has a black back-pack that he carries almost all of his possessions in that is almost always slung over a shoulder.
Hometown: New Bark Town.
Bio: Matt was born in Goldenrod and lived most of his life there with his mother Rosa, and younger sister Maria. While he never knew his father t was simply an afterthought that occasionally gnawed at him, he was rarely mentioned and there were no pictures of them together. Matthew enjoyed living in the city, from the sights and sounds of everyone going about their business to the countless ways to entertain himself throughout the day, but one evening his mother announced that they were to move to New Bark Town the following week, much to the protests of her children she stood firm. She explained that she was being transferred from the lab in Goldenrod to Prof Elm's, the lab had been recently expanded to allow more in depth work and Rosa was one of the few requested to be sent in due to her work. Maria eventually settled down and came to enjoy the idea, but Matt hated the very thought of leaving the city.
When the time came to leave, he was quiet and went along with it and slipping into a bit of an apathy, surrounded on all sides by trees and grass with no one he knew was rather disheartening. In a bid to cheer him up, Maria recommended why not join the next group to receive their next Pokemon, Matt almost choked on the apple he was eating at the time and quickly took to the idea. After cursing himself out for a bit for not thinking about it sooner he quickly applied his name to the group that was to receive Poke-dexes from Elm and set out on a journey.

Appearance: Long uncombed blue hair. Initially seen wearing a Poke'mart apron and matching hat. When he goes on his journey however he dons a green jacket, blue jeans and a black shirt with a picture of a Pokeball on it. He will occasionally wear a black hat backwards if in the mood. He is rather tall for his age.
Hometown: Violet city. Lives with his father, the owner of the Poke'mart in Violet city.

<spoiler=Long version>Brash, rebellious but kind to those who deserve it; Eric (who insists on being called Lucky) is tired of Violet city. His father, wanting him to become a Monk as he was before he went into business, sent him to Sprout Tower when he was 10. Although he learned much, after two years he couldn't take it anymore. He had a disliked his Bellsprout and eventually released it. This prompted the Head Monk to agree to let him leave.
His father, heartbroken that his son didn't want to stay in the order, made Eric earn his stay by working in the Poke'mart. Angrily working furiously during the day, he would secretly go for strolls by himself during the night.
On the night of his fifteenth birthday his life changed forever when he was confronted during his stroll by a large, fiery Pokemon. Alone, for he no longer had his Bellsprout, he thought he would perish. It moved towards him, roaring loudly when suddenly a Growlithe appeared inbetween him and the beast and roared. Seeming to nod, the giant ran into the forest in a blur.
The Growlithe turned to Eric and cocked his head. Eric pulled out one of the promotional premiere balls he always had on him to help get trainers buying from the shop. He pulled it and caught the Pokemon without any instruction whatsoever. He immediately tossed the ball and began to familiarize himself with the Growlithe. Becoming fast best friends, he named him Dash.
When his father learned about Dash he was initially skeptical about Eric's newfound desire to become a trainer. However, after watching the two bonding from a distance he softened. He refused to pay for Eric to go to the trainer school and Eric refused to return to the tower. In the end Eric won after storming away a number of times, making his father worry about the possibility of him leaving without the knowledge he needs. They ended up training together.
After a few months of intense training he began to challenge the local trainers, earning the ire of many a bug catcher burned in their way. Despite the warnings of his father, he challenged the gym and was thoroughly beaten. Determined to return victorious, he began battling wild Pokemon in the routes outside the city limits.
After tasting the adventure of training outside of the city, Eric's urge to leave his hometown exploded. He returned to tell his dad he was ready to go. His father was not convinced he was ready and forbade him from leaving.
Still working for his father, he spent his savings on travel items at a rival store (so his father wouldn't know). He was going home to change into his casual clothing when he first encountered the gang.
Emboldened by his success fighting the local trainers (excluding the gym), he challenged anyone to battle him.
<spoiler=Short version>Brash, rebellious but kind to those who deserve it; Eric (who insists on being called Lucky) is tired of Violet city. After ditching the monk order of sprout tower (much to his father's dismay), he gloomily worked at the Poke'mart out a Pokemon. However, late on the night of his birthday he had an incredible encounter which led him to becoming the owner of a Growlithe, which he named Dash. After training non-stop (although losing to the gym), he was in the middle of planning to go off adventuring on his own when he ran into the gang.
He also has a change of clothes, a water-bottle, a harmonica and a very small one person tent.
Having spent a lot of his money preparing for a journey alone, he only has $36 left for the trip.

Fast and strong, Dash is a fierce offensive Pokemon that lacks any decent defense. To counter this Eric and Dash trained long and hard to increase evasion. Dash knows Bite, roar and Ember as well as having the natural ability of Flash Fire although neither Eric or Dash himself knows this.

Age: 17
Appearance: Jason has black hair and blue eyes. He wears a black jacket and white button-up shirt, his jacket was designed to carry badges that he picked up in his journey. Jason carries around a black pack, and keeps most of his things inside of it, save for his poke-balls which he has a special belt designed to hold them on. Jason also carries around a mask in his pack, something not very significant, but something Jason uses during those times he doesn't want people to know who he is.
Hometown: Jason was born in Snowpoint City, but grew up in Azalea Town.
Bio: Jason was born in Snowpoint City, but was raised in Azalea Town. He was shipped away after only a year of living in the harsh conditions of Snowpoint City, his parents believing that sending him away was best for his health. When he arrived in Azalea Town, he was taken in by his relatives. Jason was taught to respect Pokemon and people alike, and this has been a trait Jason has carried with him since he was ten. Finally, fed up with his rural life in Azalea Town, Jason left on his 17th birthday, setting out on foot for New Bark Town, in the hopes of receiving his first Pokemon from the Professor.
Before Jason left, he was given a mask by his Cousin Bugsy, something that she said he could use if he was ever thinking of getting into trouble. He thanked her, and promised to return and tell her how useful it had been.
Appearance: Darrel is extremely thin, the bare minimum to be considered "healthy" by most doctors. The boy stands about 5'10". His skin is pale, as he's spent most of his life indoors, having very little appreciation or compulsion for the outdoors. His hair is brown, and of medium length, very feathered and unkempt, which he claims is natural. He has the beginnings of a beard, with a halfway-developed goatee.
His face is very relaxed, with no lines whatsoever save for a faint outline of the smile he constantly has. He has gray eyes, long eyelashes, and constant smirk, which combine to make it seem as if he's always in a trance of some sort.
He tends to wear carpenter jeans, along with a black hooded sweatshirt with red trim. On the sweatshirt is a flaming skull with bright orange shades, angled to ludicrous extents. He claims it's from a show, but nobody can imagine what program inspired such an odd design. He also usually wears a pair of thin-framed sunglasses, with oval shaped, rose colored lenses.
Hometown: New Bark Town
Bio: Darrel grew up in New Bark Town, like many would-be trainers, but actually spent very little time interacting with the other children. He spent most of his time inside, either playing video games or activities he made up, which he then played with his father's Houndoom. He figured that since he knew he'd grow up to be a trainer, he could save interaction with others until then. As a result he became a bit of a shut-in, only going out when required. Despite this, he was a very good-natured soul, and his laid back demeanor made him friends among those who got to know him.
The only person he spent much time with was his father, an old veteran who now spent all his time raising Darrel. He told the young boy war stories, and all sorts of legends, myths, and rumors about the Pokemon world, especially the exploits of the world's newest star trainers, Red and Gold. Over time, Darrel took heart to these stories and began to look forward to his chance to make his mark on the world.
Eventually he began to be ostracized by the adults of the town, starting around the age of 13. His constant dream-like expression, relaxed attitude, and lack of drive to interact with others made many of the town's moral guardians suspect him to be abusing some sort of substance, and therefore he was kept away to prevent him from corrupting the other children.
So for the last four years, Darrel has grown up relatively friendless, and when denied the chance to be with friends actually began to desire human interaction. He persevered, and now eagerly awaits his chance to head out into the world and be a Pokemon trainer.
Not long ago, he and his father went on a long fishing trip, out near Olivine, in an attempt at bonding. However, when they returned home they found New Bark Town burned to the ground, utterly destroyed. Now without a home, Darrel's father insisted that he begin his Pokemon journey immediately; he would not be safe anymore. Taking his father's old bayonet, Darrel set out to find the reason behind the destruction of New Bark Town, and change the world like the heroes he'd been taught so much about.

Bio: Growing up rich in the big city, Gerald was discontent. He would have much prefered to live in a much quieter smaller town, away from all the people.
What really made him feel a dislike for his station in life though, was his frineds, whom were almost all low class citizens, and live in near squaller most of the time. However, after a large arguement where his parents, he was forced to abandon his friends or be dissowned. This only made him feel worse, as he couldn't even tell his friends why he couldn't talk to them anymore
Gereald tends not to think things through properly, like now, as he has hitch hiked all the way to New bark town, hoping to get away from his parents in another region.However he never thought about what he was going to do for money in this new region. Too proud to go back to his parents, but still desprite for some way to support himself, Gereld turns to the first option that he can find; Pokemon training.

Hometown: Viridian Forest
Bio: She lived with her Grandma Gladys, in a secluded area of Kanto. Grandma Gladys was not a nice lady, She disliked people believing it to be dangerous and corrupt. she never let Chell play outside or have friends, constantly trying to break the poor girl. 16 years of this caused Chell to lose any sense of sanity, causing her to develop a fear of people.
On her 16th birthday her Grandma died, this is when Chell set off, not really knoiwing what to do, her grandma had been her whole world. She just sort of wandered around the the wild stealing food, and surviving, too afraid to ask anyone for help. Eventually she ended up in New Bark Town, not wanting to wander anymore found work around town, during her time here she developed a mask, that of a goofy wacky silly eccentric person.

Alex was born in Goldenrod city and was raised by his overprotective mother, Hanyuu Maebara, along with his three younger sisters and older sister. He has grown accustom to being with people almost constantly because of that. When his older sister left on her pokemon journey she left with her Eevee, the one given to her by her mother who was a lot less protective of the females in his family. This led Alex to be bitter about his mom.
Whenever his friends where throwing parties, Alex was helping out with his sister?s homework or helping out with the baby Cleffa and Pichu. Soon after his 17th birthday, fed up with the controlling enviorment he set out via train, towards Newbark town

Bio: For as long as he could remember he's been homeless, without a family, and hungry. He can't exactly remember where he came from or how he even got to Violet City but he has spent his last seven or so years in there. Throughout his life he's had to scavenge for food and takes regular abuse from the local children. As if digging through garbage cans isn't bad enough, the stones and verbal abuse doesn't help much for his self-esteem.
Several months ago, a Poochyena began following him around the town; watching him but keeping it's distance. When he would look up after turning a corner, there it was. When he would surface from the lake near Spout Tower (much to the local's displeasure), there it was. It has followed him in the rain, snow, hail, wind, and even the blistering heat.
He can usually be seen wandering near the pokemon center and scavenging in the Gym's dumpster.

Appearance: 5' 7" 120 lbs. Light brown eyes, so light that they're almost golden, and hair to match. Lithe and muscular, she keeps herself fit in order to both defend herself and improve her self-image. Wears... er... This thing here:
Hometown: Blackthorn City
Bio: She grew up as any child does, with a family. Her parents cared greatly for her, and they are the ones responsible for her obsession with staying fit. They pushed her to succeed in all areas, so she took summer courses in school and graduated high school at 14. She was not gifted, she just worked hard to get where she wanted to go.
However content her life seemed to be, trouble struck her soon after her graduation, when her grandparents on her father's side came to Blackthorn. Lily was conceived out of wedlock, as her grandparents did not allow her parents to marry due to class differences. Her parents, still unmarried but very much in love, were forced to send away the representation of their forbidden love. Sending her off with a tidy sum of money and some personal care products, they wept for days. They still kept in contact in secret, and it was enough for Lily.
Around her 15th birthday, Lily's grandparents took her father to Unova to rejoin the family. Her mother was left barely able to support herself, so Lily sent back most of her money. She then promised her mother to win the Indigo Plateu League Challenge so they can have enough money to reunite their family.
To Lily, Pokemon are tools she must use to complete her goal. Now she does not mistreat or hate them, she just sees no point in treating them as people when they are just animals.
Lily made her way to New Bark Town to get her first Pokemon from the renowned Professor Elm. However, she was turned away by police who were cleaning up after the massacre. Both horrified by the slaughter and indignant at the roadblock in the way of her path, she headed off the closest city, Violet, to hopefully find both a Pokemon and her first badge.

My curiosity is piqued. I'm not a huge Pokemon fan, but Special was (and indeed is) one of my favorite manga to date, so I'll throw in a possible reserve, dependent on the answer to this question: what are the starters? Is there a list or are we free to pick from any of the generations (except B&W, obviously, no one on this side of the Pacific knows much about them yet)?
Hometown: Ecruteak City
Bio: Born and raised in Ecruteak Amy has a normal life. Her father is a traveling merchant and she hardly sees him so she was largely influenced by her mother and her obsession with all things 'cute'. Amy was taught how to groom and pamper pokemon like a master by her mother and loves doing so. On her fifth birthday she was given a newborn Igglybuff as a present and named him Lelouch, or as he seems to be preferred being called Lulu, and since has never let him out of her sight. He loves the attention she gives him and never tried to run away except on one occasion where he wandered off when Amy was eight. As soon as she realized he had gone Amy panicked and went to look for him. She found him in Bell Tower injured and took him back to the pokecenter in tears, he was soon patched up much to Amy's delight and since she has pampered him even more much to his delight. They have since developed a fierce loyalty to one another. When she was nine Lulu returned the favor by fighting off a Beedrill, sort of. When they were out picking berries for Lulu when they wandered too near to it, with Beedrill being aggresive as they are it attacked. Amy grabbed Lulu and tried to run away, he struggled free and faced off against it. Lulu ended up being saved by a wandering Wigglytuff when it chased a apple right into the middle of the fight. The Beedrill hit it but did no damage, the Wigglytuff utterly destroyed it and served as a example to Lulu who now wants to become a battling pokemon. At ten she went on her 'quest' to become a master trainer like usual.

Appearance: Sam stands short at 5'7. He has dusty brown hair, thus his nickname Dusty, that goes well with his hazel eyes a round almost boyish face which contrasts his skinny body, which is not to say he isn't strong, he can bench press 120 lbs. He also loves food and can put down a whole pizza by himself.
Hometown: Azalea Town
Bio: Sam has lived his whole life in Azalea town he has a little sister and brother who are twins and 6 right now. Nothing major has ever happened, just a run of the mill small town life. As a very young age Sam would hang around Kurt and at age 7 became his apprenticee, now Sam is an expierianced apricorn pokeball maker though it takes him more time then Kurt. At age 14 Sam decided to start his pokemon journey so he took a trip that took him to New Bark town, a one day journey without pokemon at best.
