Title says it all, cats and kittens. An Appeals Court in New Zealand overturned a previous ruling. Now, Dotcom and three other people are facing extradition to the US for charges. Dotcom's lawyers have already planned their appeal to the Supreme Court of NZ.

Thoughts?

It's an absolute joke the way they can just extradite him to America. How would they like it if some country tried to extradite an American for crimes in another country.

While I don't agree with piracy at all, different countries have different laws.
For instance Israel has some crazy laws imagine the shit storm if they tried to extradite an American for one of their laws which is legal in the USA.

It really is amazing what a big bag of money can get you if you throw it at enough people.

I'm torn. On one hand, the extradition thing is a bit weak. On the other hand, guys guilty as sin. He knew the whole time that the majority of his traffic was illegitimate and illegal file transfers, and he didn't do shit about it.

I tried to explain that to someone else just the other day. What the US wants, the US gets. We are the biggest military power and the biggest political power in the world, which means we get our way. If we want a citizen, we're going to get it. If we don't, we're going to take it and no one will ever hear about it. You hear about this one because New Zealand capitulated. When the US gets involved, civil rights go out the window.

This is a very misleading title. They didn't win the battle to extradite him, pending appeal; they won a battle over what evidence will be provided at the extradition hearing.

The title says it all, but the article says different.

The extradition hearing isn't until August. Stop being so sensational.

Aye. Even when it makes absolutely no bloody sense for them to do so [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NatWest_Three].
I think you need to learn more about how Extradition Treaties work. The US has treaties with a great many countries where they can extradite people accused of criminal actions in the United States. This also works the other way. People in the US are extradited to other countires to face charges there. This makes it harder for someone who has commited a crime in one country to avoid getting arrested by fleeing to anouther country. As a note there are been people that have fought US extradition and won. Take this "person" for instance http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/06/29/britain-refuses-to-extradite-u-s-sex-crimes-suspect-on-human-rights-grounds/

About that. Do you have any source(s) on how much of the traffic that was actually illegitimate? Because I'm fairly certain I've read multiple places that the majority of the traffic was actually legal.

*facepalm* Sir, I stand in awe of your skill. Or rather, cringe in awe.

Regarding the case itself... I am rather disinclined to see any favour shown to the US, given the way that due process has been ignored thus far in the case. If he's committed crimes, try him in New Zealand, but the US shouldn't be able to ignore the legal system of others (not to mention their own legal protocols), then magically wrap it into their own system.
