User created content is kind of a mixed bag. Its like a porn site. You have to sift through mountains of horrid garbage to get to anything you would want. In the case of video games, people will have a zillion shitty levels but for every 100 shitty levels there will be creative people who know what the fuck they're doing (possibly because they're in engineering or something similar for physics based user-created content) and will put genuine effort and skill into creating decent content. I like the concept. I mean you'll get so much shit, but you'll also get genuinely cool/funny/interesting content that its like having a game that keeps on giving.
LittleBigPlanet is currently the only reason I would buy a PS3. Eventually I assume Project TRICO will be the big seller for me.

Being a PC gamer, I find that user-created content is a boon to replayability. Take Fallout 3 and Oblivion, for example; while both being excellent games, the mods designed by the community exponentially increase their appeal.

Also, giving dev tools to the plebes is beneficial in other areas. My iPod Touch is almost entirely composed of user-made apps and functions.

create-your-own content tools have been a boon for pc gaming for years, and have made some good games truly great. User created content is the clincher in why I like pc gaming more. That said, I do like consoles, especially for split screen coop, and I own 3 of them (xbox and ps2, neither of them will ever die, and a 360, on my third one since nov of 2006, which will die again soon probably). Halo 2 online never had a lot of staying power for me, but in halo 3, forge has kept me coming back now and then, no matter how mediocre a utility it is. It's just that I'v noticed pc games tend to have more staying power than console games do, and if you add user content, well. I played morrowind in like 6 versions for a summer, and deus ex in several. Half-life had too many mods to name, and there is always counter-strike. my point is, if somebody makes a good gameplay-altering mod, even if doesn't change a lot, it usually makes the game worth another playthrough. Even if I shake my head at little big planet, I would like to see these features in more games, I just don't want them to BE the game.

yes you have to sift through mountainous piles of terrible, steaming extrement extruded from badly utilized utilities, but the gems you find are almost always worth it.
