somthing very odd is going on with this thread....(and its not the subject matter)

Oh, I definitely agree that fantasy and reality are not the same thing, but even in the context of fantasies, what the hell kind of fantasies are people having that involve vicious, violent psychopaths? Unless they are acting like ordinary people in the fantasy (in which case, they presumably like them for reasons other than their crazy evilness), it strikes me a bit disturbing that people would fantasise about someone who would most likely victimise them horribly.
generally it seems (from the little fan fic Ive read) that people change charachters to better fit their fantasys

so for example mabye Vass being the sexy psychopath he is needs a woman to "bring out his soft side" (fix him)

OR mabye you answered your own question.....I'm sure some women like the Idea of a man like Vaas kidnapping you while your on holiday, he takes you into his shack, rips off your cloths, bends you over thusts his throbbing manhood into your...

uhh

well I'm sure you get the Idea

It's the time warp.

Let's do the time warp again.

Well, I definitely find the "bad guy acts like a decent person" rationale far more understandable and appealing than the "you get raped and murdered by a psycho. Also it's hot or something" thing.

As for the other part, ROFL, that got a good laugh out of me.

Actually, I'm following several feminist analysis on 50 Shades and other awful abusive/rapey romances, and they brought up a VERY interesting point on why the rape fantasy is so popular, and it's basically the opposite of slut-shaming. Because a woman has sex forced upon her instead of seeking it out herself, she's not considered a slut or a whore, and she can enjoy the sex she wanted in the first place without being punished by a misogynistic, slut-shaming society. Though this is not a good thing, obviously, because we should be encouraging women to have agency, and go after what they want in the same way we encourage men to do so. But yeah, I think it's an interesting theory and a great way to introduce people to the notion that the rape fantasy isn't something to be upheld as sexy, romantic or positive in any way.

I see...that does make sense in a way

but then alot of people enjoy "domination" fantasy's to varying degrees, some men like being "subs"...and I know personally I'd find something alot more of a turn on if its the guy (or girl) taking control over the girl than vice versa (not actual porn since the little Ive seen is about as much of a turn on as a medical diagram)..I dont know if thats got anything do do with slut shaming....or mabye some women just like to be dominated by an alpha male

Eh, maybe you're right and I'm biased. I literally cannot comprehend the entire point of domination or submission. Call me limited and narrowminded, but I don't find appeal in anything but a perfectly balanced and egalitarian relationship, regardless of the genders involved.

I suppose the issue is more complex than a simple theory, but I have a motto for these occasions: "when in doubt, blame the patriarchy."

well rape and domination arent the same thing, plus as I said there are carying degress (I'm no expert on this kind of thing though)

its kind of like one person is giving all their trust to the other, the feeling of lack of control is a big turn on for some, or in a more fictional context its like one party being somwhat unsure but then they end up enjoying it....

ok yeah I can't really explain it

Makes sense, guys a looker and more then a few women i know would love the cocky "bad boy" and dominating attitude.

As for the whole him being a villain who tortures people and stuff... Lets just say in fantasy all kinds of strange things can happen that one wouldnlt approve of normally and yup, sometimes people fantasize about being dominated or w/e.
I see nothing wrong or unusual with this, go wild ladies/guys/whatever.

That would apply to real life s and m relationships, here its another kettle of fish entirely.
I shall say no more then that on the topic :p

While it's true that not all domination is rape, all rape IS domination. I'd say rape fantasies are domination fantasies taken to the absolute extreme.

Yeah, I read about how it's apparently liberating or exciting to give up control to someone else? And how it's supposed to be a turn on that someone is "giving themselves over" to you? I can barely grasp those concepts intellectually, sure, but I find them completely unrelatable and unapproachable. Though I really don't want to kink-shame. What people fantasise about is their business. I just don't really find it wise to elevate one kind of fantasy (regardless of what it's about) as the "standard", "default" or "ideal" for everyone. Our default assumption should be that we're all individuals and no two people will have the exact same tastes, so we should encourage creativity and individuality in fantasies instead of trying to shove everyone into a conformist mould.

But I ramble. Like an elderly person.

I think Mass Effect Joker is the sexiest videogame character but then I was always a sucker for a good sense of humour.

Personally I do have a thing for bad boys but I try to suppress it as it hasn't really worked out well for me irl :p

My PC is half covered in cute Loki stickers the other half in ponies.

... I don't really see it. Then again, it's the internet, so eh. Bound to have some people who find him sexy.

Me though, I'm a Kaidan fangirl. X]

As a straight dude, I find Master Chief oddly attractive even without seeing his looks.

And I'm secure enough to admit that.

I don't find it at all surprising. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DracoInLeatherPants]

Seriously. Sephiroth. Edward Cullen. Draco Malfoy. Arthas. Saren. Loki. Jack Sparrow. Seto Kaiba. Light Yagami. Lelouch Lamperouge. Vegeta. Anyone played by Cillian Murphy. The Joker.

Not a new phenomenon.
Dude's right. This isn't new. Not gonna lie...I find some of those characters up there way more compelling than the people you're supposed to find compelling. I think...three of those characters, once I got older, looked way sexier than their hero counterparts. (Edward Cullen is forever banned because ewwww, cold dead people should never be sexy.)

I haven't played Far Cry 3, nor do I find him appealing appearance wise, but if it's anything like having a villain I can relate to on some level or find sympathetic in any way and then my mind just goes on with a story from there and then I want to know more about the character...yeah, I can see it.

Also, this is why fanfiction exists.

I personally think it might be mostly because of this [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ICanChangeMyBeloved].

Man, they say they want a tender guy, but in reality, they want drug addicted sociopathic murderers? I wish they had told me earlier so I wouldn't have bothered to pursue education.

Believable. I mean, it's just fantasy. How many evil female characters have hoards of male fans and of course, fan art? Despite the fact that if it were in character, then "aroused" is the very last thing you should be.

So, yeah, if people are attracted to that, then fine. Why should this be an issue?

That, and in Vaas' case, he has charisma. He's already gained a spot among the most famous villains of nerd culture for his quotable dialogue. Not surprising that some may find a certain dangerous charm in the character.

Exactly. Villains are always pretty popular in fandoms and there are lots of people trying to portray them as "misunderstood babies".

OP: Don't worry, Vaas isn't the sexiest character alive and by far not the most popular. By your logic Team Fortress team must be sexiest hunks of meat alive, considering how much porn there is of them.

I don't get why the whole Alpha/Dominance/Rape thing started and why you won't stop.

BUT

I can say that most definitely agree that Vaas as portrayed is a very handsome and a little bit sexy man. He looks strong and fit without being a single chunk of muscle and he does have a somewhat cute face.

If you would factor in personality in just the slightest way though.......... lolnope

Surprisingly, this fits in line with my observations. All times I've dated a 'gamer girl', they've ranged from 'slightly unbalanced' to 'completely psychopathic'. I gotta stop dating them...

I suppose he appeals to that "I can change him" side that some women have.
