In a co-op game that matters less than ever.Along with the fact of cross-platform play, there's a reason that hasn't been done, simply because in an FPS, a keyboard user will have more control.
Microsoft tried that years ago with Shadowrun and they quickly discovered that a mediocre player with a mouse and keyboard could run circles around an elite player with a joystick.fix-the-spade said:Well, I guess Sony proved Gabe wrong.
It's pretty impressive (assuming it all works) that Sony are willing to work with Valve to that level. I can't see Microsoft allowing cross platform content anytime soon.
Part of the issue I always had with that 'study' was how limited it was. One game, guys? Really? That's the extent of your scientific method? Furthermore, they denied the gamers the option to try it for themselves, which irked me to no end. They simply 'decided' to segregate the two groups. I may mainly play console, and that might have meant I'd be getting my butt whupped... erm, worse than already happens in multiplayer games... but I'd rather the option was mine to do it or not.Rigs83 said:Microsoft tried that years ago with Shadowrun and they quickly discovered that a mediocre player with a mouse and keyboard could run circles around an elite player with a joystick.fix-the-spade said:Well, I guess Sony proved Gabe wrong.

why did that remind of the simpsons movieBanthaFodder said:Sony just realised how stupid Microsoft was for hitching up its daddy pants and trying to put limits on what Valve could do with the 360. Microsoft threw Steam out on its ass, and Sony welcomed it in with a warm blanket, a cup of cocoa, and the freedom to implement Steam on the PS3 however it wanted.
Microsoft made the same exact mistake with Steam as Nintendo did with Sony (which led to the Playstation). This is awesome. I love my PS3, I love Steam, and now they are one.
at the time, yeah, it WOULD have been fantastic for both companies. imagine if Nintendo had made the FIRST CD based home console for that generation. think the N64, but with better graphics, sound, and third party support.SteelStallion said:yeah, because sony and nintendo merging would have been fantastic.BanthaFodder said:Sony just realised how stupid Microsoft was for hitching up its daddy pants and trying to put limits on what Valve could do with the 360. I don't get what the issue is here. Microsoft sounds like it wants to compete. Let them. That means more services for us to choose from. (even if its shit like windows live)
They told that when they announced Steam for PS3. Long before pre-orders for the PC began. It wasn't a secret.Jonci said:Kinda sucks that Valve doesn't let you cancel preorders. If they had confirmed buying a PS3 version would net you the Steam version, too, I'd have done that instead.
I don't put much credence in what they used for a test. As I stated in my previous post I have watched console players do just as awesomely on console as I do with mouse and keyboard on PC. More than likely the person they put on console was more a PC player and not as tested on console. It is just as well that they don't put cross-platform play into LIVE, as that will only give them an excuse to try to charge GFWL users for online play.Rigs83 said:Microsoft tried that years ago with Shadowrun and they quickly discovered that a mediocre player with a mouse and keyboard could run circles around an elite player with a joystick.fix-the-spade said:Well, I guess Sony proved Gabe wrong.

I really don't understand why we can't have cross platform between PC, PS3 AND 360. It would solve so many problems and stop my friends going on at me to buy a 360!Onyx Oblivion said:Oh. Cross-platform, you say?
This will be...interesting.
Well considering the number of times microsoft basically told Valve to fuck off when they wanted to update their games, it would definitely make them the better of the two.Thumper17 said:And this is why the PS3 is infinitley superior to the 360. Micro$oft can gargle my anal fluids.

If yes, consider my pre-order canceled. I'll never make a Steam account. Ever.
It says very clearly in the article that you have to make a Steam account in order to play.Sniper Team 4 said:So, am I going to have to get a Steam account in order to play Portal 2? What if I don't want one? Am I stuck?
