Windows live is massive failure to my eyes. Windows live is not supported in my country so games that use it will be pirated. I got a great games library on my Steam though.

wait, can you buy the PC version, or does it only work with PS3 discs?
No
aw man,
but can you do co-op w/the same disc on console and PC?
You seem to be comfused. When you buy it on Steam or PS3, you get a free copy for the other platform as long as you have steam/psn theres no real need for a disc, you can get it all as Direct Download to your HDD

Name one problem caused by Valve DRM
I have to be connected online to install my game.
So you need to be connected when you first install the game? Come on, not only is that a ridiculously small problem, but you should be connected when first using it ANYWAY to get any patches developers rushed out to fix horrible bugs.

You can call being set on fire a "ridiculously small problem" through the power of sheer fanboyism. Some of us still don't want to have to get permission to play games that we legally bought.

So you're saying that buying a brand new game and not having 5 minutes of internet connectivity to install it on your GAMING PC is a plausibly common scenario? Is that what you're going for here? Wow......ok then.

DRM requiring persistent internet is an issue because sometimes internet drops for a bit, or their servers go down, but Jesus Christ it's 2011, people who don't play games are expected to have a connection much less PC GAMERS!. If you can't get an internet connection for 5 minutes then forget PC gaming, you have bigger issues.

So you'd have to be a PC gamer......with no internet on a PC he uses for gaming......who not only has absolutely no internet, but also can't just stop at a Panera or something with free Wifi (hell, he's already out buying the game anyway) to install the game on his (presumably) stone age setup.

Yep, that's a real problem.

Now that I know what the standards are for a "problem" I see them all over Steam!

I mean, look at this logo:

Someone could think it looks like a robots arm! And that the robot apocalypse is coming! they might kill themselves to avoid being enslaved! DAMN YOU STEAM AND YOUR HORRIBLE PROBLEMS!

Considering the only reason I'm getting portal is because I need some time killed between now and future exams, I'm really not bothered. If I could get for PS3, goodie for me, I get some extra stuff. Stuff I wouldn't consider worthwhile but thats my opinion. Espically the free copy of portal 2, considering my laptop can't run shit, which I'd redeem then keep in the dusty corner of my steam collection. I also question the motives of Valve by throwing their lot in with sony, but thats only because of Sonys loss in this current generation. Still, Valves choice.

Well, I guess Sony proved Gabe wrong.

It's pretty impressive (assuming it all works) that Sony are willing to work with Valve to that level. I can't see Microsoft allowing cross platform content anytime soon.
I think Sony's smart enough to see whose coattails they should be jumping on right now...

They've been just about edged out in every field when it comes to marketing/R&D decisions in the home console market.

It's an interesting twist seeing Sony inviting Gabe to jump back into bed with them after that little spat of theirs'....although Gabe certainly is insisting on some...experimentation...

Now people might actually use their PSN accounts.
Evidently enough people do to warrant these sorts of features.
Besides that, this is hopefully the start of PC's integrating with consoles. Hope someday I can play my Steam games straight from my console, especially with integrated keyboard and mouse support.

I wonder how this cross platform play will pan out in future releases.

I can't imagine the PC community being too keen having to play co-op games like Left 4 Dead 3 with people using "the dreaded" controller.

I wonder if matches will filter control schemes. I also wonder if this will lead to keyboard and mouse support for Valve games on PS3, or even Move support.

It will be interesting to see the stuff they pull.

In the meantime, I look forward to picking up Portal 2 on launch day, and as a PC/PS3/360 gamer this has made my mind up that I really want the PS3 version! I just hope the game itself lives up to expectations. Fingers crossed it wont suffer the wrath of the newfags.

Kinda sucks that Valve doesn't let you cancel preorders. If they had confirmed buying a PS3 version would net you the Steam version, too, I'd have done that instead.
