9999? That seems a bit excessive. Everyone knows that you don't have to go past level 7942. I know how that is, though. Well, in Disgaea, you get up to lvl 9999, then you start over at level 1 and go back up. Too me, Disgaea is a game that wants you to play it and abuses a leveling system to get you to do so. Disgaea is a game that wants you to break it.
I guess that's part of what Disgaea is aiming for, but the main thing I love about Disgaea is the sense of humor. Never have I laughed so hard from a game. Have you ever played Riviera for the GBA? Yggdra Union, by the same studio, was infamous for its "bathing scene" that remarded players for exploring like they had OCD, but Riviera practically just hands you not one, but two scenes of the main character sneaking into the baths.
