Why do you hate MS? They haven't done anything wrong. No-one else has problems with charging for DLC, and most of the people who buy the stuff don't have any problem. Sure, it would be nice if it was free, but that's not how things work. It's not Microsoft's fault that Valve has delayed the update, barely given out any information to their customers and then basically lied to them. If you're going to hate anyone, hate Valve.

I'm defending MS because they've done nothing wrong. People hate them for the sake of it, they just jump on the bandwagon. If you hate MS so much, why have you bought their console? Peopl bang on about how they're money-grabbing, but they forget the fact that MS is a business, they're in this to make money, they're no more greedy than any other business.

Right, the second point you've made is just stupid. It's perfectly reasonable to hate Valve since they told us the update would be released at the end of 2008, which it wasn't. They've then been messing around, giving us no information at all, delaying the update longer and longer, and now they've announced that they're going to announce something at the end of the year. They've messed the 360 owners around so much now it's getting ridiculous.

I believe the term is 'scapegoat', old bean. I'd say you were right generally, but I'm not entirely convinced about the portrayal of the unshiftable status quo. I'm pretty certain that as such a popular developer, Valve has the resources to force free content or find some way to bypass it (selling it for a ludicrously low price, for example). I personally suspect the reason is closer to Valve's complete deadline incompetence than MS or Valve umming and ahing about how much it's going to cost, though I don't doubt that is a factor.

Ahhh, that's the word i was going for, thanks. They did manage to get the L4D Survival pack through for free, but i'm not sure if they could do it again, and probably not with something far less popular than L4D. I was going to mention Vavle's incompetence, but anytime i do on these forums someone tries to eat me. Actually, one of my biggest problems is the whole 'Valve time' thing. People think it's funny, and it is for a bit, but then it kind of gets annoying when they can't release anything on time.

You can make that argument, yes, but the argument that Microsofts way of dealing with DLC is very much different and counter-productive to Valves way of releasing it is also another. These people aren't just labeling Microsoft as being money grabbing and jumping on the band wagon, many people here are making perfectly valid points. You are now the one labeling people, ignoring the points have been made throughout this thread. You have to remember that people have different opinions to yourself, and granted the OP didnt exactly make a good point don't go blaming everything on Valve just because you love Microsoft (that goes both ways).

Personally, i believe it's most likely down to a lack of communication between the two parties. Microsoft obviously wants to release the stuff with a price tag on it in their own way, whilst valve wants to replicate their steam platform on the Xbox. The systems are pretty different from what i can tell, and both parties are probably unwilling to make any compromise; Microsoft wont because it looks like they are favouring certain developers and Valve seem too proud to do so.

its not valve's fault as I understand it, its microsoft's fault!

Also your paragraph was really difficult to read, I'm aware of the hypocrasy thank you!, also I should have capitalised valve and microsoft.
It's really not Microsoft's fault. Valve want to add a significant amount of content to the game, plus add a load of balance changes, and they want to do it for free. Now, ever since the Marketplace came out, added content has to be paid for, that's how it's always worked, no other developer has any problems with it. Valve seems confused, they're talking about releasing a new disc instead of just doing it as DLC, which seems counter-productive to me. Trust me on this, Microsoft is definitely not to blame.
Microsoft ironic name for a nerd imo.
on topic, Microsoft WILL NOT release any Dlc for games which include achievments of any sort without themselves profiting, Valve believes all Dlc which adds to their products should be free.
So as you are able to gather a conflict of views between both corporations was sparked. fact.
Microsoft is solely (not sure that's spelled correctly) to blame for the lack of any work on 360 Dlc for Orange box games, no one is wiling to budge or compromise their beliefs so no work is being done.

Here's the deal (I think):

It was supposed to be released last year.
It wasn't.
Now valve wants to release it for free for the Xbox 360. They are not supporting the ps3 version.
Microsoft wants to release it for a price, and that's why it's taking so long to be released, due to disputes with microsoft.

Trust me, I want the updates as much as you do.

Microsoft want Valve to make people pay for dlc but Valve don't want that so they're delyaing until all 9 classes have their updates so people pay less.

EDIT: Abandon all hope, TF2 owners on the PS3. Valve don't take kindly to yer type 'round these parts.

Also dry your tears young panda bear.

Here is how it is:

The ps3 will never get class updates. Valve doesn't develop for the ps3.
It was ported by an outside company.

The 360 will get the updates when the PC has all the classes.
Valve was close to memory limits on the 360 already with tf2 and they need to rewrite a bunch of stuff.

My advice would be to get a pc and play some real games with keyboard and mouse.
No fees to play online like the xbox.
With steam you do not need to keep track of cd's.

Get it on PC. The only reason Valve ports to the 360 is for money. Newell could probably not care less about the Xbox.
Yeah because there is insane profits to be had for trying to release DLC for free.

The XBox 360 update is still being worked on. If you're wondering what's taking so long, since the content is "done" on the PC already, it's mostly been around fitting it all onto the XBox. The original version of TF2 in the Orange Box was very close to the XBox's memory limit, and all the additional TF2 content we've produced has pushed well beyond it. We've found a couple of nifty ways to get back a bunch of that memory, but it's turned out to be a lot of work, and that's what most of our time is being spent on. In the meantime, we're going to get a code update out to address the server cheating that's going on.
That was posted on their Team Fortress 2 Blog back in April, so I would guess they are still working on it.

Did anyone else notice the update in the last week that happened when you booted up Orange Box? Since that's happenend, classes are sometimes locked and there seem to be some other quirks. My hope is that maybe this is part of their efforts to increase available space or prep for the DLC packs.

When Valve released L4D, they told Microsoft it was an incomplete game and thus they were just patching in what was already planned, not adding new content. TF2 was a complete game, and now Microsoft wants to charge for the updates. I also have nothing to defend that damned "Valve time", but it pisses me off that the same people who complain about Valve time, are the ones complaining about L4D2.
