Is Saxton Hale a "reference" to anything or did they just pick it because:

A. It's a "Manly" name

and/or

B. It's an Anagram for Hot Anal Sex

C. Something else that I can't quite put my finger on?

?

I wouldn't be surprised if more people sent order forms after this. But Valve is still awesome either way.

I dont know what is more amazing:

The fact that they replied.
Or the fact that they played along with it.

I would love Valve, but the lack of support for PS3 is still making me bitter.
They don't support the Xbox either, PC has always been their baby.
thats because PC is far better than Xbox360 or PS3.
Wow, wow, wow, we don't need no trouble here!

I must pay attention to when companies do this, i would have loved to get that letter. Of course i would have publicly bragged to every living person, and made copies of the letter, blank of course and sent them out.

Very shrewd. They send out a silly letter and all the gaming sites and bloggers talk about it. Beats spending money on ad banners.
Are you suggesting that I'm no more than a puppet for Valve?

How dare you.
Hey, if you have to be a puppet for someone then why not Valve? They're the most awesome game developer I can think of, I'd be proud to be their puppet :) In an unrelated note, new Left 4 Dead DLC, coming soon!

On topic, Valve have always put a considerable amount of detail into their games and spend a lot of time and effort trying to cater to their considerable fanbase rather than sell out (remember the whole Valve/Microsoft L4D DLC furore?). Hence it doesn't surprise me, and actually pleases me, that they've done something like this.

By the way, if you actually believed that L4D has new DLC coming soon, then you're a fool. Unless they actually do. In which case, damn, backfired...

The last few days should be summed up in a "How to handle your community" document and send to every publisher and developer.

Epic win.
In retrospect, I don't think Valve has any clue on how to handle their community =\.

I don't consider things like the Jarate to be "clever humor";
but I guess that if you don't know any better...
I think it's more the realism of it which makes it "clever humour". The fact that the sniper is an Australian character, with his crocodile Dundee style. And of course with all it's uses and with the lack of resources in the out back, it's a valuable tool to someone like 'the sniper'. So it's wit really lies with that it's a realistic item used within a largely unrealistic world. Plus it fits with the animated 'childish' style tf2 is designed with aaaaand who doesn't get a giggle with now and again hitting someone with a jar of urine xD

The real question is; why are you looking into tf2 and commenting on the maturity or intellect of it's humour?
