So... in order to be cleared of racist charges, you have to kill exclusively white people? Isn't THAT a little racist?

If only the white people were infected, idiots like this would call the zombie virus a racist. You can't win with these guys, they'll find racism everywhere

All I know is, I've seen posters on white-supremacy websites absolutely CROWING about both of those games, fairly gibbering with glee--also over RE5.

Do with that what you will.
So you frequent white supremacy websites?

If so, why, unless you're a white supremacist? (Unlikely, since you're attempting to give legitimacy to racist charges)
If not, then why even make that up?

Oh, I know. Because you want to give legs to a completely ridiculous charge.

I believe it's called "hostile inquiry", or something along those lines. Perusing media put out by people you disagree with, because you want to know that they're saying. I'm black and I frequent white supremacist websites from time to time.

everyone pls SHUT UP you are all just repeating the same points over and over again stop postin just read you dont need to voice an opinion that has already been stated or a very similar one.

dude, shut up. people has their rights to give their opinion, and if you have something against that, fuck off this forum.
everybody has the right to their opinion yes but to have the same opinion as someone else and state their opinion in a way that has been stated many more times and more persuasively before is just annoying and pointless.

I don't frequent them. They were featured on Something Awful, and I went to see what an utter trainwreck these people are. (Massive, massive and horrible, in case you wondering.)

I don't understand these kind of people! There are black people in the game because there are black people in real life! If he wants to deny that by not including black people, then he proves himself to be rascist idiot that he is. Next time he wants to say something like this, he really needs to take a moment and think, "Do I want to show other people my idiocy, or should I just keep quiet and pretend I have a single brain cell". Perhaps it would prevent most of the idiots from blogging their stupid comments on a great game.

How the fuck can you be racist against a entirely different species (sort of don't get specific on me)

Also i couldn't care less if I was killing mimes, nazis, whites, blacks, asians, simpson people, steroid abusing people, or even people who smoke profusely. Just so long as they are zombies, they die. In a Entertaining way. Preferable involving Chainsaws on Fire.

Valve Responds to Racism Accusations

Valve has spoken out following a Houston blogger's accusations of racism in Left4Dead 2.

Race in videogames has recently become a touchy subject following the uproar caused by Resident Evil 5's depiction of Africa and its people and when Willie Jefferson, videogame blogger for the Houston Chronicle, wrote a post about racism in games, he re-ignited the discussion with a fresh wave of controversy.

The main point of his article was his dismay at western-themed FPS Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood's use of the Confederate flag, which he regarded as a symbol of hate, but early on in the post, he cited Left4Dead 2 as a game with racist undertones saying: "One of the games that comes to mind is 'Left 4 Dead 2.' Though the game isn't out yet, it's already causing an uproar. Set in New Orleans, players will have to fight their way through hordes of zombies - with several of them who appear to be African-Americans."

Predictably, this view on their game has Valve somewhat mystified and writer Chet Faliszek has spoken about the accusations in an interview with Destructoid [http://www.destructoid.com/valve-responds-to-left-4-dead-2-racism-accusations-141921.phtml].

"Utter insanity," said Faliszek. "There are mixed races of zombies, there are all different races of zombies that you shoot, and since we placed it in New Orleans, that makes it racist? I honestly re-read the paragraph about five times ... but when two of the characters in your game are African-American, it's a weird thing to be accused of. We're like, 'how does this work'?

I know where I stand on this, but let's hear what you have to say. Do Call of Juarez and Left 4 Dead 2 strike you as racist?

I haven't played Call of Juarez so I cannot comment on that at all. Of course I haven't played LFD2, but like Faliszek, I don't get it either. It is almost like you are dammed if you do, damned if you don't. A few years back I remember reading a few articles that bemoaned the fact that most game personalities/characters were white only (and male but beside the point). LFD, the first one, included a range of playable characters, male/female, old/younger, white/black almost everyone was represented in that limited number there. Now in LFD2 they are complaining about having zombies that are black? Yes New Orleans has a significant African American population and it also has a history of voodoo/occult participants who were slaves or their family were slaves from the Caribbean. Putting the color of the skin aside, this voodoo/occult history makes it an interesting location for a game about zombies just based on the history alone. If you have ever read about the history of New Orleans or even just taken a walk around some of the cemeteries there, you know what I am talking about. If this fictional game takes place in New Orleans it makes sense the the zombies would be a mix of white and blacks. If it took place in Beijing the zombies would be Chinese with Asian facial features. This is just hypersensitivity at its worst.

BWAH?! (Care to elaborate good sir?)

This is total ridiculous like Max already posted the majority race in New Orleans is African American. If they didn't have so many African American zombies I would call the game racist.

Also:

The rights of the zombies is being severely neglected:

ZOMBIE POWER!

call of juarez gets taken to task because of a confederate flag, mind you in a western style game. and yet we overlook both of 50 cent's games, which have him violently murdering hordes of white people. and yet no racism is called on that behalf. If the game centered around killing black zombie's and none of the characters were in fact african-american. Then you might have some validity.

However, I see none of that in your arguement. just another hate blogger begging for attention

Exactly my point, but said with much more brevity.

I think New Orleans was a bad location. But seriously, we can't still say "too soon", its been long
I beg to differ, the history of voodoo in New Orleans makes it perfect for a zombie game.

It seems to me, if people look for problems they will generally find them.
This sums it up best. This accusation is a complete fabrication. Also I applaud Valve for using an interesting and untapped location like New Orleans.

I love how the writers of yellow journalism make up some kind of controversy and "uproar" when really none exist, then readers believe it, and then go ahead and actually create the said uproar.
It's a vicious cycle of biased news-reporting and ignorant, gullible masses.

Then again, this is coming from Texas.
If they're not playing the vanguard of social justice and pointing fingers left and right, they'll be accused of racism, since it's so deeply rooted in their culture and history.

You're an idiot. I hope you know that. There is a vastly big difference between the bad version of voodoo where people are made into zombies by using certain herbs, and let me take this time to remind you that they aren't flesh eating zombies, to make them zombies and the spiritual side of voodoo as a religion.

And if all you can think is " Oh New Orleans, voodoo, I get it. " you deserve to be slapped.

Now that my rant it done, lemme get OT: This is silly. Someone somewhere will always find things racist, by the way what's the race of the blogger?

In RE5 I was in Africa, I honestly didn't expect to see many white people there. Know why? It's Africa. It also seems to be in a remote part of Africa, and for fuck's sake the entire cast of villains were white!!!

As for Call of blah blah blah, I agree with everyone so I don't need to go into detail.

So there, my insert.

You realize the game is a work of fiction right?
