Well at least they haven't forgotten it exists...

Can't wait to see what happens when Half Life 3 comes out before episode 3, that'll be great.

EDIT: Or maybe they'll pull a fast one and turn episode 3 into Half Life 3! Heh.
This is what I've been thinking since forever.

What better way to release a game than to be BOTH the sequel to one of the best FPSes out there AND the sequel to said FPSes episodic follow ups...man...the only thing that could be more epic is if a game was in development for over a decade...then got cancelled, then got picked up by another company to be released, then got delayed again and then....finally....in the epic summer of 2011....finally was released...

Imagine if we lived in that kind of universe.

...

:O

I'll bet they're making a new engine for it.

Speaking of which, I (finally) just finished Portal the other day. I must be one of the only people ever who finds the Source engine extremely clunky and nearly unplayable...
If you're playing on a console then I most certainly agree with you. If you're playing on PC, then I have no idea what your problem is.
That might be it... I did play CS:S on a PC and it was decent enough, still didn't feel right to me though...

I wish I had played Half-Life when it came so I could be arsed to care about this game.
Now it just feels too late.

NO EPISODE 3!

If this isn't a full blown sequel, I'll kill Gabe Newell.
I'm with Onyx. Give us a new game on a new engine now please!

Abridged: We have finally started doing something about it. Now shut up and wait for four more years. If youre a good fanbase, it might happen.
My thoughts exactly.

I don't even know why Valve's fanboys still dominate every vote and contest ever considering that Valve has left us hanging for quite some time. You can say 'hang in there' all you want but we've been hangin' for almost four years. Seriously Valve, Our arms are getting mighty tired.
Yeah, it's not like Valve does anything else besides Half-Life, right?

I seem to remember someone once saying something similar about another game series. What was the name of the director and game again?

Oh yeah, Jon Romero and Duke Nukem Forever.

Hey, at least with the latest news on DN we can assume that Half Life will come out eventually, we just have to wait another ten years.

Why exactly do people let Valve get away with this sort of shit again? Duke Nukem was being mocked within two years of the announcement of their new game.

But valve... Bros don't leave bros hanging!

The problem with ep.3 is that Mr. Freeman is a blank-slate character. To finish the story (properly) would mean to draw some kind of conclusion on Freeman's character, which means defining him at all, thus removing everything that makes the "character" interesting (ironic!): The fact that the player fills out everything that isn't actually explicitly there.
Doing anything at all with character relations means that someone at valve has to decide "who" Freeman is and what the relations between him and the other characters are, thereby alienating anyone who thinks they have him figured out. You don't want to end up with the same kind of problems Other M had (Character not being who you thought they were, because you had extrapolated and filled in blanks yourself).

The updated Portal 2 version of the Source engine would have been fine with me before your post....

But with this much time to make it, a totally new engine is a MUST.

This is awesome news, but all this negativity is kinda dampening...

I think I read one guy saying HL2 was mediocre...

first line on the article:

Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is coming, so just chill
first line of the last paragraph:

Lombardi didn't necessarily say that Episode 3 is coming, so Valve could be planning to skip it for an entire new release considering the amount of time that has passed
so... ummm.. which is it?

I took 6 years to develop half life 2, so I'm hoping they're underway developing HL3 with a new or vastly improved source engine.

Oh.

You can just 'hang in there' waiting for me to buy your products, then.
