Malkavians for me as well. I role played as one in my friend's Vampire the Masquerade campaign and it was so damn fun. No, I wasn't a fish malk (completely...) as I did do the randomly psychotic terrifying stuff, but I did fun things with the clan too.

Gangrel at a close second. They're just bad asses.

Twilight: the tale of a necrophiliac emo girl who can't act getting her wish, she gets the sparkily moody gay guy to date her and leave her, then she becomes suicidal because that fixes everything, then explores bestiality only to wind back up with the dude that treated her like crap in the first place. I'm so glad this is what girls look up to.

I like the the crazy jaw splitting guy from the second Blade movie, he was kinda badass.

I mostly like a combination of a few different takes on vampires but the vampires from Interview With a Vampire are closest but only if they have Lestat's personality. I don't like the sleeping in a coffin thing and prefer to think that they don't sleep at all.

None, as they are they have their weakness to daylight, which fucks them up royally on a planet that spends more than half a day with some kind of light in wherever they are. Unless they're at the extreme north/south poles.

Nut that I am, first vote goes to the Nosferatu for being well before the rest in movies at least...

But my favorite "vampires" are Touhou's own Remilia and Flandre Scarlet. immensly powerful, blood drinking, sunlight and running water weak, so they are classical in a lot of ways... not to mention each push 450+ years easily, if the data i have is to be believed.

Except that fan interps of Flandre end up pitching her as exceptionally crazy, and I liken her to a kid who doesn't know what she is doing- a super powerful being in a kids body who wouldn't know what her food really is, so given a normal human being, she'd spill the blood and not get any, but that's also because she stays in the Scarlet mansion and is fed cakes made with blood instead of going at necks.

oh, right, and because its Touhou they can rain more overt destruction then most vampires ever could if they turned their attacks on the populace.

Go, Remilia!

Alucard laughs at you quaint vampire sensibilities.

oh what? you can't regenerate lost limbs, summon an army of the undead, and absorb an ocean of blood that was ounce London to prove a point?
Hail the one true Count.
oh and he can't cross running water so you know what he does? Hijacks a damn aircraft carrier!

Even though he's technically not a Vampire, I'll say Arystar Krory (Though I'm only up to episode 35...) As for why they're King of the Undead...they're as close to human as they can really be while still being Undead? The human mind is rather powerful after all, top that with an even more powerful body and it's a force to be reckoned with.

The only depiction of vampires I have ever enjoyed was that in "Interview with a Vampire" by Anne Rice. I can barely remember it now as I read it in primary school, so it's possible even that is rose-tinted by a child's mind. You tend tend to notice that things are shit when you're a kid.

I seem to remember Louis actually being a complex character, and his disappointment in how vampires conducted themselves reflected my own opinions of the portrayal of vampires in literature. He expected them to be refined, enlightened, having knowledge of the ages; but they ended up being a bunch of stupid assholes dicking around and being twats. I could completely relate to his disillusionment.

You forgot the Lincoln part of the guy's name. And I don't remember him saying that in the book... may have been something I blocked out though.
Was thinking more of the van Helsing variety, though you're right, not a direct quote.

While I concede that Alucard is the most badass and awesome vampire to grace the plethora of undead. I still stand by the point that Lich are the true kings of the undead.

Which raises the question... What would a Lich be like in the Hellsing universe?

Nosferatu was the best vampire, a broken monsterous pariah with no friends and a true monster feared by most, not this Twilight garbage which is basicly a stale 'romance' with a 3 year old's idea of a boogymonster as a vampire.

I actually don't mind many different kinds. We cannot all be like Bella Lagosi and luckily we are not all like Bella right. Personally when it comes to vampires i find Malkavians a hoot, yes cursed with being vampiric and oh guess what insane. Their insanity in uncurable and there are different insanities they can have from utter sociopathy to debilitating depressing. But here is the kicker.. they can spread their madness.

In a way they are artists with other peoples minds.. the color palet they use is the red of blood. And they happily share utter madness with mortals. Quite oddly those who they not embrace but instead take as a blood slave.. those tend to end up on the good side of the deal. The insight of the malkavian combined with a mostly mortal mind. It is like a heigthened existence bound to a desire to serve.

And that is why I like Malkavians, now for those wanting to play a malkavian one of the best tips I have heard is. The cold murderer hiding behind a smiling facade is a stronger type to play then the giggling one who needs her teddybear. In fact if you can play malkies right they are not malkies at first sight. One might think "Mmm they are ventrue I guess. Or toreador.. something like that" and unexpected one can show their true nature. A much feared position!

The Vampires from My Sword-hand is Singing.

Very visceral, creepy and grim, and very much more like what vampires used to be in their first iteration: little more than Zombies by today's standards, their only boon being their increased strength and durability.

.
In no other work have I ever found vampires so disturbing.
