Vampires, how should they be?

I'm a fan of Dracula, to a certain extent the Anne rice version, and 30 Days of Night. Either way, blood-sucking, strong, fast, and killed by sun. The classic. Any other version I may not watch or read about, but to each his own I say. I don't think there should be a single classification of what a vampire is definitively. Stories exist throughout history of vampirism, and the version we in the wewsat have is completely different than say, the Asian versions. People will tell vampire stories no matter what, and they will always try to make them unique. I've never read or seen Twilight, and don't plan to, but I'm also not going to freak out and say whoever wrote it should die, I'm just not going to touch it, as it seems to be a teen angsty whininess type of book. Not for me, but whatever.

I think True Blood and Hellsing got 'em pretty good, leaning more towards True Blood on the weakness and rules, and more towards Hellsing with the abilities and power.
I am mad that I just learned of true blood, and will now be starting out missing on season one. :(

I bought the first season on DVD. Only $35 at Wal-Mart. Worth it.

I like the approach Bloodlines: The Masquerade took towards vampires, or even the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. They each portray different types of vampires who act and look diferently and survive in different ways. They also have completely different cultures and habits. Pretty much as long as they don't sparkle in sunlight and act like Mormons, i'm cool with any interpretation.

Vampires can be anything the author wants to make them, so long as they still satisfy the basic rules.

1) Direct sunlight KILLS
2) They drink blood to survive (human blood just tastes better)

They can have any amount of sexual lust, good looks (or not), and you can do away with some rules ie. True Bloods aproach to holy artifcacts. So long as the two main ones are there, then it is all good. If you change them, then you don't have vampires anymore. Twilight are not vampires, they are something else. Call them Tweenpies or something sufficiently less insulting to the vampire legend.

I do not care in the least just so long as we all agree they should not be anything like in the Twilight books.

Vampires should be blood sucking, super powered murderers who consider humans lesser being only fit to be a source of food
and also sparkle and butt rainbow free!

I like them like like my women - on their backs, screaming at the ceiling. Of course, in the case of the vampire, it's the fact I've crushed most of their ribs that causes them the problem.

Vampires need to be blood sucking, super strong, sexual (and not in the bullshit Edward way), manipulative, malicious, creatures who can't stay out in sunlight, and if they're any different then they're called Daywalkers like Blade or they should have a good reason other than "Oh its because he chooses not to suck blood."

Its not a fucking choice, Staphanie Meyer, you stupid ****. He can't just say "I don't want to because I'm not evil."

They must not be able to go out during they day. If they sparkle they are not vampires they are fairies or gay. I don't know, but as long as they don't sparkle I'm good. I also like the idea that vampires can't touch any form of water like in bloodrayne. Or just your typical vampire like dracula. I'm even going to go as far as saying if they are like bill from true blood that is cool too. Just no sparkles. Cause that is really creepy.

Vampires should be warded off by garlic, burned badly but not killed by holy water, harder to kill then humans but still possible to kill without a stake. Vampires should be 3x as strong as humans, able to fly, but not able to go out in daylight. Accents the same as they were before stricken with vampirism.

Um, I would go with Alucard from Hellsing, but he's ridiculously powerful. Even by anime standards he is ridiculously powerful.
I think of two types of vampires. Regular ones and super powered ones like Alucard.
Regular ones can't go out in sunlight. They can't shapeshift. They need to drink blood; any kind of blood really. They just prefer human blood. Crucifixes don't hurt them unless they're made of silver. Piercing the heart can kill them. It can be pierced with a sword a bullet anything. Decapitation always kills them. Plus super senses, strength and speed.
Super vampires can go out in sunlight. Can shapeshift and hypnotize people and can regenerate from deadly injuries.
This works for me.
