My room mate last year was a strict vegetarian, and he dated a vegan girl. They both thought I was disgusting because I ate a kielbasa sausage when I went with them to dinner. Furthermore, she refused to wear leather, and dislike that I wore a leather jacket.

I don't have anything against them for their lifestyle choice, but I personally could never even delve into the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. I like meat too much to willingly be a vegetarian, but I could handle it better than being a vegan under doctor's orders. Veganism, with its lack of anything in the way of eggs, butter, or dairy alongside meat would just not make life possible for me. Worse yet, there are vegans who are also on gluten-free diets by choice.

What are your thoughts? Would you ever do it?

Or are you a vegan? Share your experiences on what made you make that choice.

No because I like meat too much. However, if I have veggies round I'd make a vegetarian meal. They wouldn't stop me wearing my leather boots, belts and ajackets though. That's what I wear, they have to live with my cow-butchering ways.

No I wouldn't, but I have no problems with those who do. My aunt's family is vegan, so I have some experience with the lifestyle.

As long as they don't go pushing their views onto me I'm fine with it.

My BFF is a Vegetarian by choice, he doesn't mind if I order a Cheeseburger. I couldn't survive living without meat, my body would waste away...

Why would I ever want to? We're designed to eat meat, and most of the meat we eat has been bred for us to eat. Cows and chickens are the product of thousands of years of selective breading, resulting in the greatest convenience on the planet.

I don't eat fish though, as we're hugely overfishing as is.

I like meat too much, so a no from me. I hate the vegan elitism though.
It's kinda like religion, people can worship who/what they want, but the second they shun me for something that is against their beliefs I feel that I must...

I can go without meat if I choose, or if I can't afford to buy any. But I enjoy it, and I'm damn sure not giving it up.

And someone needs to tell that girl that they don't slaughter cattle just to get the leather. The cattle are dead anyway, whether naturally or for meat procuring purposes. No point in letting useful material go to waste.

I'm never gonna be vegetarian or vegan. I was a bit shocked one day when I realized my brother drove my family and myself to a vegan sandwich shop for lunch while we were on vacation in Lake Tahoe. I didn't mind at first when they served tuna sandwiches which were top notch but their miso soup is very horrible and my status as an omnivore still sticks to this day. I was earlier in my life a carnivore before I ate veggies and fruits with my meals and for snacks.

Vegetarianism and Veganism are an evolutionary step backwards. Our ancestors didn't suddenly develop intelligence because they kept eating fruits and berries. They started eating termites, carrion, fish, small birds and the more meat htey consumed the more their brains developed.
Killing virtually every other species for food doesn't just prove your dominance on the planet, it makes you smarter.

This, would make me challenge them, and stop being friends if they persisted. I hate people who insist on putting their personal choices on others.

Nope because I love meat.

I don't mind vegetarians so long as they don't try to shove their beliefs down my throat, and ridicule me just because I eat meat.

I am a vegan :-D so naturally therefore i do like it :p. the lazy appraoch to answer the why question is to link to peta so here it is: http://www.peta.org/

Basically veganism is my passion and i wouldn't give it up for anything, despite everyone i know thinking i'm nuts for being one and being bombarded with the same questions everyday. I love animals and don't think they are on this earth for our own personal use so we should treat them fairly. Btw there are fake dairy products which help.

What this guy said, I can't stand it when they try to force what they think on you, it's like, "dude, I don't care if you're [insert anything here], just let me [go to hell/get unhealthy/whatever]."

I hate your kind with a burning passion. Sorry, but I just do. It's not personal.
