Red dead definetly deserved game of the year, and I'm glad it did.

But I was way more happy that Black Ops won best character. Hellz yeah Woods!
I agree with this.

Soooo proud of you, Red Dead!

But I think Blops should've had Mason or Reznov as the best character.
Woods =/= Best Character.
Best Badass, perhaps, but nowhere near character.
I think it should've been given to John Marston/another RDR Main Character.
Woods was one of the worst choices for Black Ops' best character.

Glad Red Dead won, it really was a great game.

But what the hell?! Mordin didn't win best character? Huge Oversight.

Went to Red Dead Redemption.

The nominees were:

Red Dead Redemption
Call of Duty: Black Ops
God of War III
Halo: Reach
Mass Effect 2
I'm quite happy about that. Red Dead was just good, y'know. Good graphics, great main character, brilliant story (one of my favorites) and a brilliant multiplayer to boot. Halo: Reach doesn't even deserve to be on that list. I want my £40 and approx. 20 hours back. I can't beleive I forced myself to play it. Good at times, but nowhere near GOTY.

Recently I purchased Perfect dark. Much better than Halo: Reach. Hell, even fucking HAZE was better than Halo: Reach. I mean, C'mon. I loved Halo 3, but reach just pisses me off.

Black Ops one character of the year? As opposed to RDR and Mass Effect? What has the world come to...

Halo Reach was nominated? I guess it keeps that fanboys happy. I would have given it to ME2 but Red Dead would be a close second.

I don't really give two shits about the awards themselves however, especially when there are announcements like TES V and ME3. 2011 is looking to be a good year for gaming.

Black Ops won best character. Mass Effect 2 wasn't even nominated in that category. Martin Sheen didn't win best performance.

Well, at least Mass Effect 2 won plenty of other awards and Bioware is the studio of the year.

Was it up to a vote? The only reason I even cared about the stupid VGA's from Spike is for the ME3 and TESV reveal trailers.

It's a complete joke, like the MTV user choice awards. "OH HAI GUYZ TWILIGHT BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR!1!1!1!"

Seriously, I'm glad I have internet so I can just see the two things I cared about. Also, while RDR was a good choice, I wish it had gone to ME2. Really glad it didn't go to Black Ops, though.

the show seemed so poorly planned. most of the jokes were bad and most of the speakers looked completely stiff. most of them really didn't want to be there. they were trying to pander to a very specific gamer stereotype i think.
i was happy to hear about the game announcements though.

I was a little disappointed that GOTY went to Red Dead and not ME2 but they are both great games so who really cares.

However the award that bothered me was the character of the year award. I'm really shocked woods was even nominated as he wasn't even in a large portion of the game and when he was he didn't seem to be anything more than a one dimensional bad-ass.

I think that the character of the year award was decided by the fans which explains why the character from the bestselling game of the year one.

Not only he was indifferent, he was constantly threatening everyone and he never actually did anything. He was like a dog on a leash - couldn't do anything, so he just kept barking.
Agreed.

John Marston is a character who is all talk and no action. I was getting really sick of him repeating himself over and over:

The name's John Marston. I'm looking for Bill Wiliams, have you seen him?

I did what you asked me to do. Now tell me where I can find Bill Williams!

I'm so going to hurt you if you don't tell me where Bill Williams is.

This is the last thing I do for you before I hurt you if you don't tell me where Bill Williams is.

Okay, well THIS is the last thing...

Okay, well this is DEFINITELY the last thing...

I don't mind Marston, but he was so easily manipulated.

This is how most Rockstar protaganists behave, but with RDR it felt completely at odds with the whole lawless wild west setting.

In GTA4 I can understand that Nico has to play ball with scumbags, because they're the ones you run the city and they could track him and his cousin down in no time. But in RDR there's no real infrastucture or law to speak of; nobody is really in control of anything. So for John Marston to act like a lapdog for rapists and necrophiliacs, when he could've just searched for clues himself, just really didn't make sense.

He worked for the Mexican Army. And then the rebels. Because both promised to hand over Williams.

Really, that
doublecross from that captain De Santa was obviously obvious.

And this guy is supposed to be the most compelling character of the year.
