Yeah I think it really is pretty creepy to "love" a video game character. Emotional connection to them is totally fine. I got that way with Alyx in Half Life.

I'm in love with James from Silent Hill 2. I know he killed his wife, but he won't do it to me!!

The character I had created in WWE smackdown vs raw. His name was disco *****, and he had the most wonderful eyes and an amazing afro.

I don't know about "love" exactly, but there's a definite "if that girl were real" quality to a few girls in games...notably Lucca from Chrono Trigger, Antonietta Marie from Oblivion, Garnet/Dagger from FF9, Princess Daisy...

I haven't fallen in love per se, but I have felt a connection to both Alyx Vance (HL2) and Tali Zorah nar Rayya (Mass Effect).

I don't know about love, but I imagine I'd be interested in April Ryan from The Longest Journey if she was actually a real person. Before everything in that game went to hell she was the creative and artsy type, a lot like me.

Hey everyone. I was just wondering how normal it is to fall in love with characters in video games. I am fairly certain that most of the world would see it as being incredibly sad and creepy, but i was just wondering what Escapists think. And i dont mean simply being attracted to them, i mean really really connecting with their character to a point when you feel actual love.

Do you have any video game crushes? Who and Why?

Mine is Sarah Sisulart from Lost Odyssey
Firstly, im just curious, but what about her makes you feel that way? I realise it's a personal question so if you dont want to answer thats fine by me.

Secondly I dont know if I reached the level of love, but I have definately been strongly attracted to two video characters over the years. The first is EVA from Metal Gear Solid 3. There have been independant females in video games before but most(if not all) of them are often so caught up in there need to be independant that they become to proud to ask for help from a male character. She is a perfect mixture of both. Independant AND willing to seek help when she needs it. The Second of the characters I feel attached to is Mia from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. There's just too many reasons why I like her to list them all.

And last but not least I would like to mention something. Although I dont realy get that way often with video game characters I do that alot with anime girls. Horo from Spice and Wolf, Kallen from Code Geass and CC from Code Geass.

The closest I've ever come to that is thinking the occasional girl in a JRPG is hot, however I don't play those games so that's not often. Also, in those games you have to be careful that it's actually a girl and not a long-haired angsty teenage boy.

Lucca from Chrono Trigger. >:3

Nah, nothing wrong with idle fantasy, even if someone else had to invent the person.

I had a crush on Tifa from FF7, but that was a long time ago. In a galaxy far, far, away.

Probably because she had huge "tracts of land" and seemed like a good person.

I like Sarah for like sooooo many reasons. She is cute, she has glasses, she is shy, she is sweet, she is somewhat emotionally cut off from the world (cause of something bad that has happened in the past), she loves reading, she is smart. These are all traits that i would look for in a girl in real life.

I had a very specific vision of my dream girl in real life and then i played LO and there was this character that was like exactly it. It was a really strange phenomenon, but very cool.

Well, there's this game called Revenge of Shinobi, where if you didn't kill the final boss quickly enough, the main character's love interest would be crushed by a collapsing wall.

....Oh wait.
