My girlfriend was playing the sims 2 on an external because her laptop doesnt have enough memory to keep it on there. So I was walking out of the room when I accidently tripped on the cord jutting the external across the floor and unplugging it from the laptop.

This was after she had worked on it for a good 3 hours and needless to say death was in her eyes.

About 2 years ago I was playing Psychonauts on my computer when the whole thing simply crashed. computer wouldn't restart, wouldn't even power up. Indeed I soon discovered my motherboard had somehow cooked itself good, and it dragged the processor and RAM with it.

Pretty much had to build new computer after that, although scavenging the parts that survived the apparently psyconauts-induced catastrophe kept costs low. I like to think my old rig was just waiting for the best game possible to go down while playing, just like most every mans dream is to die in an orgasmic bliss I expect!

Oh oh, here's another good one for you guys.

So, this was when I was younger, but at one point I was going from my mother's house to my father's. I always carry my games in boxes when I do this, along with other important things such as clothes.

I get there, set my stuff down, and I ask for some help bringing it down to my room. One of my sisters decides to help. She picks up a box with clothing in it. Apparently she caught a whiff of it, and decided that it smelled like smoke. (Which is likely, because my mother chain-smokes.)

So, she decides to go wash my clothes. Sadly, clothes weren't the only thing in that box, and apparently my sister isn't terribly perceptive. So, in goes the games.

Luckily, this was not my entire library. It was only a few, but when I realize that they may have gone into the wash, I ran upstairs and checked. Lo and behold, 5 of my games were found in there. Ruined.

Well, that's a lie, the discs themselves were fine, but the inserts were totally fucked. V_V

Back when I was a wee babe, my parents had bought me FF7 for my PS1. I loved it and I played it every day. For one of my many groundings, my dad takes away my PS in turn losing my memory card. Hours upon hours of work... lost. I never went back to FF7 again. It was too hard to revisit the game I had put so much effort into.

The first game I bought on 360, Oblivion, I never finished it. I spent about a year playing all the other games I bought, and then finally remembered what game had convinced me to buy a 360 in the first place! So, I put the game in... "Disc is unreadable."

it was the night that the original left 4 dead came out and i had never heard of it but xplay gave it great reviews and it was about zombies so i went to go buy it. while at the game store i ran into my friend who was also there buying l4d. i was very excited to get home and try l4d with my friend online but when i got home and put the disc in, i was able to watch the opening cut scene and then the video card on my xbox crashed. also it was about 10:20pm and the store closed at 10 so i had to wait til i got done work the next night to go buy a new xbox.

I accidentally threw my psp in the washer with a game I had just started. Nonetheless I now have a darth vader block of plastic that appears to be a psp but doesn't work. -sigh- this is why you don't do laundry when you are exhausted.

I think it needs to be both challanging, and needs to be epic. Like, in Psychonauts the final boss was amazingly epic, but it was too easy! (Especially considering just how impossible the last few entire missions were! I mean, your father's 'acrobatics test' was infuriating!)

Some higher being does not want me to finish Tales of Symphonia a second time. I've saved over files multiple times and then had to reformat my memory card because all my files kept corrupting. Finally had to get a new memory card.

In Tales of Vesperia I had a file dedicated to grade farming and had about 130+ on it and decided to take a break and go for the low level achievement. I go to save that file and end up deleting the 130+ hour file with out thinking. I had a few choice expletives to yell at myself.

So yeah Tales games do not like me and going between save files is a *****.

My first Chrono Trigger file on original SNES. I had beaten it and gotten all endings, everyone lvl 72-75, just working to get everyone to lvl 99. Rainbow helms and armor for the whole party, best weapons, the rainbow sunglasses, everything. let my friend borrow it, and his twat of a little brother ripped the game out of the system (while on) without using the eject button. lost everything.

Also, the reason i don't trust 3rd party equipment. I had a PS1 memory card with very strong files for FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9, as well as legend of dragoon and a few other saves....working on getting everyone to lvl 99, working on perfect game saves. the card just stopped working or registering on any PS1 system. i tried 4 PS1's and 2 PS2's. Never Again....

Alright, so tonight I decided I wanted to play Fable II. I start up my 360 and put the disc in.

After I start up the game, I hear a terrible, vicious, scratching noise. I panic, turn off the console, and quickly open the disk drive.

Oh no. Big nasty scratches all around the outer edge of the disc.

What's worse, is that I spent the entire night playing the Pub Games to get the extra content for the new character I was about to start. So not only can I no longer play the game, but I wasted this entire night getting ready to play it! It's terrible.

I put the game in correctly and everything, but my 360 is old. It makes the most atrocious sounds when it plays games. I am glad it won't be with me much longer, as I'm getting the Elite soon.

So, to help me cope with this horrible loss, please, let me know that I am not alone! Tell me of your worst disasters in games.
I had this happen to my Mass Effect disc, but I was stupid enough to tilt the 360 while it was running. NEVER DO THAT! Anyhow, I buffed it out 3-4 times at my local Blockbuster and it runs, but no game store will take it for trade in.

I would try buffing out the disc multiple times, and then seeing if you can possibly install it onto the hard drive to play it, because that way the system only needs to read the disc to see if it's in there and it doesn't need to read all of the content.

It's a shame that most of these stories happen because we forget to save... I used to forget to save a whole lot too, but ever since I forced myself to keep it in mind, I ram the F5 button so much I have the tendency to do it in real life as well. *twitches*

you should definatly go beat that kid up...if ur too yellow for that, hire somebody. You could probably get a decent beating for a few hundred.
haha, good point. He's probably like 12 now, so i wouldn't feel too bad about socking him in the face, lol

I was playing SSBB and had all the characters and stages was finishing up the trophies and stickers. I let my 5 year old brother play and he used "the bomb" and erased the data, which was fine until I found out the disk was scratched and wouldn't allow me to use certain characters or play the Subspace Emissary so i had to redo everything the hard way.

My husband is clumsy (this will be important later) ;-)
Whilst playing on Shin Megami Tensai my husband walked by and knocked my PS2 off the cupboard, kind of made the disc a bit iffy and slightly hampered the PS2 (it became a bit temperamental) Anyway he clearly had it in for that game as a few days later he did it again (same game)and scratched the disc and broke the PS2. It cost him a new game and a new PS2! I later took the original disc and got a disc repair done and it is fine, the emotional scars however............
