Halo 3 ODST for saying it's anything but a 60 dollar DLC pack.
tbh i think O.D.S.T was a real let down. the firefight was good for around 3-4 games, but after you get the 2-3 hour endure achievement it gets real boring. and i only really bought the game for the mythic disk, so i didnt really bother with it after finishing the campaign.

Entire Halo series
Pretty much every Tony Hawk game after Underground, they were still good, just not as good...
F.E.A.R. 2 - not scary at all
Final Fantasy VIII - What happened here? VII and all the spin offs of it were awesome, so was X and XII, but this one just sucked.
Gears of War - Was ok, but from all the hype I thought it would be better.

Fallout 3. The game itself was great, but it kept crashing really badly (as in "your computer goes black and you need to manually reset it" badly).

Also Phantom Hourglass, they made the sailing worse (at least it was kinda enjoyable, if tedious, in Windwaker) and had a timed dungeon you had to keep coming back to. That dungeon crawling with my one weakness, roving unkillable enemies, didn't make things better.

Edit: Oh, and Final Fantasy XII. Not bad per se, just had dull setting and characters compared to what I liked about previous games. The combat was...interesting, though.

A while ago a rpg came out called Blue Dragon.

I remember reading about it, watching previews about it on G4, seeing early reviews and I got the idea that it was going to be the game to have for that year. I got it and after about an hour I turned it off........... and never turned it back on. The game had like 3 disc so I thought, "All right! I'll at lease get my moneys worth." But it just failed to draw me in, it faelt stale and every challenge felt like a choir. I still have it somewhere because I refuse to trade in any game until they offer half of the orginal cost. So one day maybe i'll try it again.

Oblivion. I was really excited about getting it a few months ago, I was really hyped up. Then, several glitches, crashes and restarts later, I got frustrated with the combat (too hard) and the levelling system (too confusing) and gave up. Never been back.

WARNING. THIS IS AN OPINION. ANY DISAGREEMENTS ARE TO BE KEPT TO YOURSELF

I'm gonna have to say ODST, Res Evil 5, and Damnation.
ODST was too short and had little multiplayer appeal.
Res Evil 5, not sure why, just didn't like it.
Damnation was the most awful pile of shit I've ever played in my entire life. The end boss actually glitched on me. He froze, allowing me to shoot him at will until I won. Seriously, I've never seen a game that was so bad, so quickly thrown together, that the developers didn't even bother to put together a proper ending

Hmmm, biggest let-downs.

Probably every single sequel to appear on the current generation of consoles (except CoD4). For me, this generation just feels like one big let-down. I think I'm growing out of gaming.
Why 'except COD4'? The single player was ass compared to every COD before it, and the multiplayer was a nade spamming perk fest compared with United Offensive and COD2's amazing multiplayer.

I have four that spring to mind straight away
In order of let down;
Far Cry 2: Promised so much but gave so little
Mass effect: Terriable combat and I found the story no where near as 'compelling' as it was made out to be
Bioshock: Once again promised so much but failed to deliver, though was still pretty fun
Fallout 3: After my intital enjoyment it soon became a boring rehash of Oblivion but slightly browner

FFXII - I didn't like the combat system at all hope I can get into 13's.

Spore - I remember playing the first two stages thinking it was great, then got to tribal and I started to find it boring

Mass Effect - Only because it took me about 6 months to get it to work after I got it for my birthday, I got to play my birthday present just after Christmas

Prey - It started well, but I found the story went downhill after a while

KOTOR II - The ending

Haze. Free Radical had such a great track record, shame they tried to be so much like Halo...

Mission 6 of No More Heroes takes you to an underground tunnel where you briefly fight through a small handful of foes. Then, onto the boss battle cut-scene. The game is more than 1/2 over at this point so it's already been well established that the greater bulk of the game is, in fact, the epic boss battles.

And this one never comes. The cut scene ends with someone "snatching" your kill. Your character cusses the guy out, and he promptly disappears. Then the game laughs at you.

Fucking Hell, I was pissed. It was godawful funny though.

I just had a lot of fun with it, it just felt right. CoD3 was also a laugh though I suppose. But all the sequels I was really looking forward to on this gen turned out to be real disappointments.

PDZ
PGR3
Oblivion
GTAIV
Fable 2 (Although less so as I stopped buying Lionheads crap!)

The one really nice suprise of this gen was Viva Pinata (stop laughing at the back!)

Prince of Persia 2008

What a piece of shit.

After they perfected the arts of videogame combat and platforming in the SOT trilogy, Ubisoft must have had a board meeting a little like this:

'ok enough of that fun stuff, let's give gamers castrated platforming with overlong, QTE filled, frustrating boss battles!'

'But boss, that doesn't sound annoying enough.... we want to really piss fans off'

'Ok... let's make them fight each boss 5 TIMES!'

'Bon!'
I was going to say MW2 except this sums it up very, very well about POP.

same, but i dont want to be...
You're 2 months older than me; we're not supposed to grow out of gaming until we're married and have kids - stay vigilant! 2010 is set to blow our balls off.

I downloaded Saint's Row 2 last night and so far I'm quite disappointed with that choice.

But generally I find the heavily hyped games are the ones that let me down most. Modern Warfare 2 is a great game, but it's so hyped that it just can't live up to it for me. Assassin's Creed was hyped to the extent that I remember it made the lunchtime news in Britain because of its supposed AI innovations: by contrast the sequel has received less attention and I think it's a far better game.
