Okay so recently while going to yahoo for my email, one of the little stories they always have caught my eye: a list of different things that are common now that are dying and on their way out. It had the obvious ones like movie rental shops, but it also had the medium of video games. Am i missing something or is yahoo completely retarded?

I'm gonna go with Yahoo just having their head up their ass. I used to click on those once in a while when I checked my email too, and I wouldn't even consider them news anymore.

It's just Yahoo's second rate "reporting" and "stories" where they show you a headline that you might think is interesting and then find that what looked like a pizza from above was actually just melted cheese on a circle of cardboard. They're just trying to get hits, don't let it bother you.

You took a Yahoo news post serious?

That's like taking Fox News serious. It's all a joke in the long run.

While i think the argument was more along the lines of, those story driven videogames as art sort of thing are on there way out, and I suppose this could really be said with what is becoming mainstream in the industry.
However if the same logic was applied to movies im sure all the worthless summer dribble and slasher porn are killing cinema.
Besides videogames were always something of a fringe thing the new trends are simply pulling in people who never really cared before.

According to at least three threads here I recall seeing, apparently video games are dying because people like Modern Warfare 2 more than Braid. Because obviously arty games are the ONLY genre that matters and the public enjoying ANYTHING else immediately means that the medium as a whole is seconds from vanishing. Obviously. So Yahoo may be referring to that (completely retarded) theory.

Also movies are dying because arthouse movies are not making as much money as Transformers 3, and since they're SOOOO much more "challenging" intellectually (SPOILER WARNING: they're not) then this will mean the downfall of human civilization. Because obviously human society depends on arty bullshit indie movies for survival. Obviously.

Also music is dying because Justin Beiber is popular, and not some inane indie band that only plays on xylophones or something like Arcade Fire or whatever...

Everyone is always saying something is dying because of something for some retarded reason. It's completely irrelevant. Games aren't dying, movies aren't dying, music isn't dying. No one is dying. Everyone lives. Now go play MW2 and be happy.

Yahoo's still a thing? Colour me surprised. At any rate, I wouldn't expect them to be the bastion of journalistic integrity.

Video games as a medium are reaching a peak and an eventual decline, but they're dying. Maybe the way it's delivered is dying, but it's similar to how the movie industry 'died' when TV game along.

It's going strong, but it's reaching a point where it's probably going to face a fierce reconstruction.

Naw, it's all just sensationalism.

Really, the idea of those things is to take a few things that really are headed for the door, just to make it seem real, then insert whatever's cool to shock the audience.

Perhaps they're trying to say that Video games as a physical medium are dying. Like we'll all be downloading them in 10 years rather than going to a Game Stop.

If thats the case than i can see they're point though i imagine hard copies will always be around to some extent. Folks just like having somthing they can hold.

sigh... when did the Daily Show become the "serious one"? really, don't listen to the BS on Yahoo or Fox or any other syndicated trolling media... it's all bogus. take news with a grain of salt.

Cartridges, disks, things you go pick up with your hands at a store, etc - are dying. I think that may have been the point of the article you speak of. I saw a similar one o few days ago.
